After the Battle (Proverbs 21:1–31)
1 UST Yahweh,{ your} king is glad because you have enabled him to be strong and because you have rescued him{ from his enemies}; indeed, how exceedingly he rejoices. BSB BSB: For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O LORD, the king rejoices in Your strength. How greatly he exults in Your salvation!
2 UST You have given{ your} king the things he desired, and you have not refused to do what he requested you to do. Selah BSB BSB: You have granted his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 UST In answer to his prayer, you bless him with many good things. You place a gold crown on his head. BSB BSB: For You welcomed him with rich blessings; You placed on his head a crown of pure gold.
4 UST He asked you to let him live for a long time, and you have enabled him to live for a long time. BSB BSB: He asked You for life, and You granted it—length of days, forever and ever.
5 UST People honor him greatly because you have helped him defeat his enemies. You have made him famous. BSB BSB: Great is his glory in Your salvation; You bestow on him splendor and majesty.
6 UST You bless him forever, and you cause him to be joyful in your presence. BSB BSB: For You grant him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence.
7 UST The king trusts in you, Yahweh, and because you, who are much greater than all other spirit beings, faithfully love him, you will protect him. BSB BSB: For the king trusts in the LORD; through the loving devotion of the Most High, he will not be shaken.
8 UST You, the king, will defeat all your enemies; yes, you will surely defeat all those who hate you. BSB BSB: Your hand will apprehend all Your enemies; Your right hand will seize those who hate You.
9 UST When you, the king, appear, you will so completely destroy them that it will be as if you threw them into a fiery furnace. Because Yahweh is angry with them, he will decimate them so completely that it will be as if he swallowed them whole or burned them up. BSB BSB: You will place them in a fiery furnace at the time of Your appearing. In His wrath the LORD will engulf them, and the fire will consume them.
10 UST You, the king, will remove their children from this earth; their descendants will all disappear. BSB BSB: You will wipe their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from the sons of men.
11 UST They want to harm you, but what they plan will never succeed. BSB BSB: Though they intend You harm, the schemes they devise will not prevail.
12 UST You will cause them to run away by shooting arrows at them. BSB BSB: For You will put them to flight when Your bow is trained upon them.
13 UST Yahweh, show everyone how very strong you are!{ When you do that,} we will sing and praise you because you are very powerful. BSB BSB: Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength; we will sing and praise Your power.
