Do Not Rebuke Me in Your Anger (Psalm 6:1–10)
UST Yahweh, please do not correct me angrily; no, please do not punish me wrathfully. BSB BSB: A Psalm of David, for remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
UST { I feel as though} you have shot arrows into me, and that you have struck me with your hand. BSB BSB: For Your arrows have pierced me deeply, and Your hand has pressed down on me.
UST Because you are so angry with me, my whole body suffers. My body is restless because I have sinned. BSB BSB: There is no soundness in my body because of Your anger; there is no rest in my bones because of my sin.
UST Indeed, all my sins{ are like flood waters that} rise above my head; they are like a heavy load that is too much for me to bear. BSB BSB: For my iniquities have overwhelmed me; they are a burden too heavy to bear.
UST Because I have acted foolishly, I have sores that keep getting worse and stink. BSB BSB: My wounds are foul and festering because of my sinful folly.
UST My body is twisted and bent over very low. I go around sad and grieving constantly. BSB BSB: I am bent and brought low; all day long I go about mourning.
UST This is because there is a fever inside me, and my whole body is sick. BSB BSB: For my loins are full of burning pain, and no soundness remains in my body.
UST I am exhausted and feel completely broken. I moan loudly because I feel so distressed. BSB BSB: I am numb and badly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.
UST Lord, you know everything that I long for, and you hear every time that I sigh. BSB BSB: O Lord, my every desire is before You; my groaning is not hidden from You.
UST My heart beats rapidly and I am very weak. Even my eyesight is failing me. BSB BSB: My heart pounds, my strength fails, and even the light of my eyes has faded.
UST My friends and the people I love keep away from me because of my disease; even my own family stays far away from me. BSB BSB: My beloved and friends shun my disease, and my kinsmen stand at a distance.
UST Those who want to kill me set traps for me, and those who want to harm me talk about how to destroy me and they constantly plot how they will deceive me. BSB BSB: Those who seek my life lay snares; those who wish me harm speak destruction, plotting deceit all day long.
UST But I act like someone who is deaf, and I do not listen{ to them}. I act like someone who cannot speak, and I say nothing{ to them}. BSB BSB: But like a deaf man, I do not hear; and like a mute man, I do not open my mouth.
UST I have become like a man who cannot hear and who cannot argue back. BSB BSB: I am like a man who cannot hear, whose mouth offers no reply.
UST { This is} because I wait for you, Yahweh{, to help me}. You will be the one who will respond, Lord my God. BSB BSB: I wait for You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God.
UST { I know this} because I prayed,“Do not let my enemies celebrate over me. Do not let them gloat over me if something bad happens to me.” BSB BSB: For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.”
UST Indeed, I feel that something bad will soon happen, and I am constantly in pain. BSB BSB: For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
UST Certainly, I confess all the wrong things that I have done; I feel terrible about my sin. BSB BSB: Yes, I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.
UST But my vigorous enemies are powerful, and there are many people who hate me for no reason. BSB BSB: Many are my enemies without cause, and many hate me without reason.
UST When I do good things for people, some of them do evil things to me in return. Those people accuse me{ of doing evil things}, even though I am trying to do what is right. BSB BSB: Those who repay my good with evil attack me for pursuing the good.
UST Yahweh, please do not leave me! My God, please stay near me! BSB BSB: Do not forsake me, O LORD; be not far from me, O my God.
UST Come quickly to help me, Lord, you who save me! BSB BSB: Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.
