Psalm 63 63 Psalms Book 2 unfoldingWord® Simplified Text Thirsting for God (2 Samuel 15:30–37)
UST God, you are the God whom I worship. I greatly desire to be with you. It is as if my body aches for you, just as a person in a dry, hot wilderness greatly desires water. BSB BSB: A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body yearns for You in a dry and weary land without water.
UST I have worshiped you in your sanctuary and recognized how powerful and glorious you are. BSB BSB: So I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and glory.
UST You are always kind to me, as you promised in your covenant. This is worth more to me than even being alive, so I will always praise you. BSB BSB: Because Your loving devotion is better than life, my lips will glorify You.
UST I will praise you for as long as I am alive. I will lift up my hands and pray to you. BSB BSB: So I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift my hands.
UST You satisfy me as if I had just eaten a delicious banquet of rich foods. I will praise you very joyfully. BSB BSB: My soul is satisfied as with the richest of foods; with joyful lips my mouth will praise You.
UST Sometimes I think about you when I am lying in bed. When that happens, I reflect during the night on how wonderful you are. BSB BSB: When I remember You on my bed, I think of You through the watches of the night.
UST { I realize that you are wonderful} because you have always helped me. I sing to you joyfully because I am aware that you protect me just as a mother bird protects her chicks under her wings. BSB BSB: For You are my help; I will sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.
UST I remain completely loyal to you, and you protect me by your power. BSB BSB: My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
UST Some people are trying to kill me, but they will die and go to the place where dead people are. BSB BSB: But those who seek my life to destroy it will go into the depths of the earth.
UST They may die in a battle, and then wild dogs will eat their corpses. BSB BSB: They will fall to the power of the sword; they will become a portion for foxes.
UST But I, the king{ of Israel}, will rejoice in what God has done for me. All those who swear oaths in the name of God will praise him because he will have stopped people from saying things that are not true. BSB BSB: But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by Him will exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut.
