1. God’s Righteous Judgment

   (Romans 2:1–16)

2. 1USTWe thank you, God! We thank you because you are close{ to us}. We tell people about the wonderful things that you have done.BSBBSB: For the choirmaster: To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A Psalm of Asaph. A song. We give thanks to You, O God; we give thanks, for Your Name is near. The people declare Your wondrous works.
3. 2UST{ You say,}“I have set a time{ to judge people}. At that time, I will judge everyone fairly.BSBBSB: “When I choose a time, I will judge fairly.
4. 3USTThe earth may shake, and everyone who lives on it may tremble. But I am the one who holds it steady.” SelahBSBBSB: When the earth and all its dwellers quake, it is I who bear up its pillars. Selah
5. 4USTI warn those who boast,“Stop boasting!” I tell wicked people,“Do not be proud!BSBBSB: I say to the proud, ‘Do not boast,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn.
6. 5USTDo not brag about your power! Do not speak arrogantly!”BSBBSB: Do not lift up your horn against heaven or speak with an outstretched neck.’”
7. 6UST{ The one who judges and} honors people does not come from the east, west, or south.BSBBSB: For exaltation comes neither from east nor west, nor out of the desert,
8. 7USTGod is the one who judges people; he shames and punishes some people, and he honors other people.BSBBSB: but it is God who judges; He brings down one and exalts another.
9. 8USTIt is as if Yahweh holds a cup{ full of punishment} in his hand. It is full of{ punishment that is like} foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours it out{ to punish the wicked}, and all the wicked people on earth must drink it.{ He punishes them fully like} they were drinking the cup to the last drop.BSBBSB: For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours from His cup, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to the dregs.
10. 9USTBut as for me, I will never stop saying what the God whom Jacob worshiped has done; I will never stop singing to praise him.BSBBSB: But I will proclaim Him forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob.
11. 10USTGod promises this:“I will destroy the power of wicked people, but I will increase the power of righteous people.”BSBBSB: “All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous will be exalted.”
