The LORD Will Not Forget His People 1 UST Yahweh, you are a God who punishes{ your enemies}. So reveal{ to them} who you are! BSB BSB: O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth.
2 UST You are the one who judges all people on the earth; so take action and give the arrogant people what they deserve. BSB BSB: Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud.
3 UST Yahweh, wicked people just continue to be glad, and that is not right! BSB BSB: How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult?
4 UST They abundantly speak arrogant things; all people who do evil things say that they are great people. BSB BSB: They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast.
5 UST Yahweh, it is as though those wicked people were crushing us, your people; they distress the people who belong to you alone. BSB BSB: They crush Your people, O LORD; they oppress Your heritage.
6 UST They murder widows, people from other countries, and also young people who have no fathers. BSB BSB: They kill the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless.
7 UST Those wicked people think to themselves,“Yahweh does not see{ any of this}; the God whom the Israelites worship does not notice{ the evil things that we do}.” BSB BSB: They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.”
8 UST You wicked people in Israel need to understand{ what is right}; you have been stupid and foolish far too long! BSB BSB: Take notice, O senseless among the people! O fools, when will you be wise?
9 UST Since Yahweh is the one who made ears, of course he can hear{ what you say}! Not only that, he created eyes; so of course he can see{ the evil things that you do}! BSB BSB: He who affixed the ear, can He not hear? He who formed the eye, can He not see?
10 UST He corrects{ the leaders of} other nations, so he will punish{ you}, as well. He has taught people everything that they know, so of course he knows everything{ that you do}. BSB BSB: He who admonishes the nations, does He not discipline? He who teaches man, does He lack knowledge?
11 UST Yahweh knows everything that people are thinking; he knows that what they think is evil and useless. BSB BSB: The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.
12 UST Yahweh, how fortunate are those who allow you to discipline them,{ how fortunate are} those whom you teach from your laws! BSB BSB: Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, and teach from Your law,
13 UST You relieve those people from bad things when they happen, and someday you will punish the wicked people and stop them from doing wicked things. BSB BSB: to grant him relief from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 UST This will happen because Yahweh will not reject his people; he will not desert those who belong to him. BSB BSB: For the LORD will not forsake His people; He will never abandon His heritage.
15 UST Yes, someday judges will again decide matters fairly for people, and all honest people will be pleased about that. BSB BSB: Surely judgment will again be righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it.
16 UST { But when evil people oppressed me,} I could find no one to defend me against the wicked things that evil people did to me. BSB BSB: Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?
17 UST If Yahweh had not helped me{ at that time}, I would have gone quickly to the place where dead people say nothing. BSB BSB: Unless the LORD had been my helper, I would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
18 UST Just when I thought,“I am about to die,” then, Yahweh, you saved me by being faithful and loving to me. BSB BSB: If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loving devotion, O LORD, supports me.
19 UST Whenever I am very worried, you comfort me and cause me to be happy. BSB BSB: When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.
20 UST Corrupt rulers, those who establish laws that allow people to do what is not right, cannot be your friends. BSB BSB: Can a corrupt throne be Your ally—one devising mischief by decree?
21 UST They plot together how to destroy righteous people, and they declare that innocent people must die. BSB BSB: They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
22 UST But Yahweh has become like a fortress for me; my God is like a huge rock that protects me. BSB BSB: But the LORD has been my stronghold, and my God is my rock of refuge.
23 UST He will do to those wicked leaders the terrible things that they have done to others; he will get rid of them because they do wicked things. Yes, Yahweh our God will get rid of them. BSB BSB: He will bring upon them their own iniquity and destroy them for their wickedness. The LORD our God will destroy them.
