The Vision of the Four Chariots 1 UST I looked up again, and in the vision I saw four chariots coming toward me from between two bronze mountains. BSB BSB: And again I lifted up my eyes and saw four chariots coming out from between two mountains—mountains of bronze.
2 UST Red horses pulled the first chariot, and black horses pulled the second chariot. BSB BSB: The first chariot had red horses, the second black horses,
3 UST White horses pulled the third chariot, and strong, spotted horses pulled the fourth chariot. BSB BSB: the third white horses, and the fourth dappled horses—all of them strong.
4 UST I asked the angel who had been speaking to me,“Sir, what do those chariots mean?” BSB BSB: So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5 UST The angel replied,“These are the four spirits that serve the Lord who rules the entire earth. They go out across the sky in four directions. BSB BSB: And the angel told me, “These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth from their station before the Lord of all the earth.
6 UST The chariot with the black horses will go north, the white horses will follow them, and the spotted horses will go south.” BSB BSB: The one with the black horses is going toward the land of the north, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south.”
7 UST When those strong horses went out, they were eager to go and patrol the earth. The angel said to them,“Go, patrol the earth!” So they went and patrolled the earth. BSB BSB: As the strong horses went out, they were eager to go and patrol the earth; and the LORD said, “Go and patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.
8 UST Then the angel called out to me,“Look, the chariots that went north have satisfied my anger in the land of the north.” BSB BSB: Then the LORD summoned me and said, “Behold, those going to the land of the north have given rest to My Spirit in the land of the north.”
The Crown and the Temple 9 UST Then Yahweh gave me another message. BSB BSB: The word of the LORD also came to me, saying,
10 UST He said,“Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah will bring silver and gold from the people who returned from exile in Babylon. On the day they arrive, go to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. BSB BSB: “Take an offering from the exiles—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon—and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah.
11 UST Take some of the silver and gold from those men and make crowns. Then place them on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. BSB BSB: Take silver and gold, make an ornate crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jehozadak.
12 UST Tell him,‘This is what Yahweh, the commander of the heavenly armies, says, There is a man whose title is the Branch, because he will grow up like a new branch from the stump of David’s family. He will emerge from where he is, and he will build the temple of Yahweh. BSB BSB: And you are to tell him that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Here is a man whose name is the Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
13 UST Yes, he will build Yahweh’s temple. He will receive great honor, and he will sit on his throne and rule. He will also serve as a priest while he sits on his throne, and there will be peace because he is both king and priest.’ BSB BSB: Yes, He will build the temple of the LORD; He will be clothed in splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. And He will be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’
14 UST The crowns will remain in the temple of Yahweh to remind people of what Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah did. BSB BSB: The crown will reside in the temple of the LORD as a memorial to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and the gracious son of Zephaniah.
15 UST People who live far away will come and help build Yahweh’s temple. When that happens, you will know that Yahweh, the commander of the heavenly armies, has sent me to you. This will happen if you truly obey what Yahweh your God commands.” BSB BSB: Even those far away will come and build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.”
