1 ULB ¿De dónde vienen los desacuerdos y disputas entre ustedes? ¿No se levantan de sus malos deseos, y combaten en sus miembros? BSB BSB: What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you?
2 ULB Ustedes desean lo que no tienen. Ustedes matan y persiguen lo que no son capaces de tener. Ustedes pelean y discuten, todavía ustedes no lo obtienen porque no le piden a Dios. BSB BSB: You crave what you do not have; you kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask.
3 ULB Ustedes piden y no reciben, porque piden malas cosas, en orden de que puedan gastarlas en sus malos deseos. BSB BSB: And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.
4 ULB ¡Ustedes adúlteros! ¿No saben ustedes que la amistad con el mundo es enemistad contra Dios? De modo que, cualquiera que decida ser amigo del mundo se hace así mismo enemigo de Dios. BSB BSB: You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.
5 ULB ¿O ustedes piensan que la Escritura no tiene sentido cuando dice que el Espíritu que Él colocó en nosotros, es celoso y nos anhela profundamente? BSB BSB: Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy?
6 ULB Pero Dios da aún más gracia, por lo cual la escritura dice: "DIOS RESISTE AL ORGULLOSO, PERO DA GRACIA AL HUMILDE." BSB BSB: But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
7 ULB Así que, sométanse a Dios. Resistan al diablo, y él huirá de ustedes. BSB BSB: Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 ULB Acérquense a Dios, y Él se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, ustedes pecadores, y purifiquen sus corazones, ustedes de doble ánimo. BSB BSB: Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 ULB ¡Aflíjense, laméntense, y lloren! Conviertan su risa en lamento y su gozo en tristeza. BSB BSB: Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom.
10 ULB Humíllense a sí mismos ante Dios, y Él los levantará. BSB BSB: Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
11 ULB No hablen en contra el uno del otro, hermanos. La persona que habla en contra de un hermano o juzga su hermano, habla en contra de la ley y juzga la Ley de Dios. Si tú juzgas la ley, tú no estás obedeciendo la ley, sino un juez de ella. BSB BSB: Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. And if you judge the law, you are not a practitioner of the law, but a judge of it.
12 ULB Sólo hay Uno que es dador de la ley y juez, Dios, Él que es capaz de salvar y de destruir. ¿Quién eres tú quien juzgas a tu vecino? BSB BSB: There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
14 ULB ¿Quién sabe lo que pasará mañana, y qué es tu vida después de todo? Pues tú eres como una niebla que aparece por un poco de tiempo y después se desvanece. BSB BSB: You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15 ULB En cambio, ustedes deberían decir: "Si el Señor me lo permite, nosotros viviremos y nosotros haremos esto o aquello." BSB BSB: Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.”
16 ULB Pero ahora ustedes se jactan de sus planes. Toda jactancia es mala. BSB BSB: As it is, you boast in your proud intentions. All such boasting is evil.
17 ULB Así que, el que sabe hacer lo bueno pero no lo hace; para él es pecado. BSB BSB: Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.
