1. 1PR38Ja Mooses kutsui kokoon kaiken Israelin ja sanoi heille: "Kuule, Israel, nämä käskyt ja oikeudet, jotka minä tänä päivänä julistan teidän korvienne kuullen. Oppikaa ne ja noudattakaa niitä tarkoin.BSBBSB: Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances that I declare in your hearing this day. Learn them and observe them carefully.
2. 2PR38Herra, meidän Jumalamme, teki liiton meidän kanssamme Hoorebilla.BSBBSB: The LORD our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.
3. 3PR38Herra ei tehnyt tätä liittoa meidän isiemme kanssa, vaan meidän kanssamme, jotka olemme tässä tänä päivänä, kaikkien meidän kanssamme, jotka nyt elämme.BSBBSB: He did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with all of us who are alive here today.
4. 4PR38Kasvoista kasvoihin Herra puhui teidän kanssanne vuorelta, tulen keskeltä.BSBBSB: The LORD spoke with you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.
5. 5PR38Minä seisoin silloin Herran ja teidän välillänne ja ilmoitin teille Herran sanan, sillä te pelkäsitte tulta ettekä nousseet vuorelle. Hän sanoi:BSBBSB: At that time I was standing between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. And He said:
6. 6PR38'Minä olen Herra, sinun Jumalasi, joka vein sinut pois Egyptin maasta, orjuuden pesästä.BSBBSB: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
7. 7PR38Älä pidä muita jumalia minun rinnallani.BSBBSB: You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.
9. 9PR38Älä kumarra niitä äläkä palvele niitä. Sillä minä, Herra, sinun Jumalasi, olen kiivas Jumala, joka kostan isien pahat teot lapsille kolmanteen ja neljänteen polveen, niille, jotka minua vihaavat;BSBBSB: You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
10. 10PR38mutta teen laupeuden tuhansille, jotka minua rakastavat ja pitävät minun käskyni.BSBBSB: but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
11. 11PR38Älä turhaan lausu Herran, sinun Jumalasi, nimeä, sillä Herra ei jätä rankaisematta sitä, joka hänen nimensä turhaan lausuu.BSBBSB: You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.
12. 12PR38Ota vaari lepopäivästä, niin että sen pyhität, niinkuin Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinua käskenyt.BSBBSB: Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.
13. 13PR38Kuusi päivää tee työtä ja toimita kaikki askareesi;BSBBSB: Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
14. 14PR38mutta seitsemäs päivä on Herran, sinun Jumalasi, sapatti; silloin älä mitään askaretta toimita, älä sinä älköönkä sinun poikasi tai tyttäresi, sinun palvelijasi tai palvelijattaresi, sinun härkäsi, aasisi tai muu juhtasi älköönkä muukalaisesi, joka sinun porteissasi on, että palvelijasi ja palvelijattaresi saisivat levätä niinkuin sinäkin.BSBBSB: but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest as you do.
15. 15PR38Ja muista, että itse olit orjana Egyptin maassa ja että Herra, sinun Jumalasi, vei sinut sieltä pois väkevällä kädellä ja ojennetulla käsivarrella. Sentähden Herra, sinun Jumalasi, käski sinun viettää lepopäivän.BSBBSB: Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the LORD your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
16. 16PR38Kunnioita isääsi ja äitiäsi, niinkuin Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinua käskenyt, että kauan eläisit ja menestyisit siinä maassa, jonka Herra, sinun Jumalasi, sinulle antaa.BSBBSB: Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

21. 21PR38Älä himoitse lähimmäisesi vaimoa. Älä halaja lähimmäisesi huonetta, älä hänen peltoansa, älä hänen palvelijaansa, palvelijatartansa, härkäänsä, aasiansa, äläkä mitään, mikä on lähimmäisesi omaa.'BSBBSB: You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
22. 22PR38Nämä sanat Herra puhui koko teidän seurakunnallenne vuorelta, tulen ja synkkien pilvien keskeltä, suurella äänellä, eikä siihen enempää lisännyt. Ja hän kirjoitti ne kahteen kivitauluun ja antoi ne minulle.BSBBSB: The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice to your whole assembly out of the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness on the mountain; He added nothing more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23. 23PR38Kun te kuulitte äänen pimeyden keskeltä, vuoren palaessa tulena, niin te astuitte minun luokseni, kaikki teidän sukukuntienne päämiehet, niin myös teidän vanhimpanne.BSBBSB: And when you heard the voice out of the darkness while the mountain was blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me,
24. 24PR38Ja te sanoitte: 'Katso, Herra, meidän Jumalamme, on antanut meidän nähdä kirkkautensa ja valtasuuruutensa, ja me olemme kuulleet hänen äänensä tulen keskeltä. Tänä päivänä me olemme nähneet, että Jumala voi puhua ihmisen kanssa, ja tämä jää kuitenkin henkiin.BSBBSB: and you said, “Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.
25. 25PR38Miksi on meidän siis kuoleminen? Sillä tämä suuri tuli kuluttaa meidät. Jos me vielä kuulemme Herran, meidän Jumalamme, äänen, niin me kuolemme.BSBBSB: But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.
26. 26PR38Sillä kuka kaikesta lihasta on koskaan niinkuin me kuullut elävän Jumalan äänen puhuvan tulen keskeltä ja jäänyt henkiin?BSBBSB: For who of all flesh has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire, as we have, and survived?
27. 27PR38Astu siis esiin ja kuule kaikki, mitä Herra, meidän Jumalamme, sanoo; ja puhu sinä meille kaikki, mitä Herra, meidän Jumalamme, sinulle puhuu, niin me kuulemme ja teemme.'BSBBSB: Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we will listen and obey.”
28. 28PR38Ja Herra kuuli teidän puheenne, kun te puhuitte minulle, ja Herra sanoi minulle: 'Minä olen kuullut, mitä tämä kansa on puhunut sinulle. Kaikki, mitä he ovat puhuneet, on oikein puhuttu.BSBBSB: And the LORD heard the words you spoke to me, and He said to me, “I have heard the words that these people have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.
29. 29PR38Jospa heillä olisi sellainen sydän, että he alati pelkäisivät minua ja noudattaisivat kaikkia minun käskyjäni, niin että he ja heidän lapsensa menestyisivät iankaikkisesti!BSBBSB: If only they had such a heart to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever.
30. 30PR38Mene siis ja sano heille: Palatkaa majoillenne.BSBBSB: Go and tell them: ‘Return to your tents.’
But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”
32. 32PR38Niin noudattakaa siis tarkoin niitä, niinkuin Herra, teidän Jumalanne, on teitä käskenyt; älkää poiketko oikealle älkääkä vasemmalle,BSBBSB: So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you are not to turn aside to the right or to the left.
33. 33PR38vaan vaeltakaa aina sitä tietä, jota Herra, teidän Jumalanne, käski teidän vaeltaa, että eläisitte, menestyisitte ja elinpäivänne olisivat pitkät siinä maassa, jonka otatte omaksenne."BSBBSB: You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
