1. 1PR38Näin sanoo Herra: "Katso, minä herätän Baabelia vastaan, Leeb-Kaamain asukkaita vastaan hävittäjän hengen.BSBBSB: This is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will stir up against Babylon and against the people of Leb-kamai the spirit of a destroyer.
I will send strangers to Babylon to winnow her and empty her land; for they will come against her from every side in her day of disaster.
Älkää säälikö sen nuorukaisia, vihkikää tuhon omaksi koko sen sotajoukko.BSBBSB: Do not let the archer bend his bow or put on his armor. Do not spare her young men; devote all her army to destruction!
4. 4PR38Haavoitettuja kaatuu kaldealaisten maassa ja lävistettyjä sen kaduilla.BSBBSB: And they will fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and pierced through in her streets.
5. 5PR38Sillä ei Israel eikä Juuda ole Jumalansa, Herran Sebaotin, hylkäämä, vaan noiden maa on täynnä syntivelkaa Israelin Pyhän edessä.BSBBSB: For Israel and Judah have not been abandoned by their God, the LORD of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.”
Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
Sen viinistä joivat kansat; sentähden kansat tulivat mielettömiksi.BSBBSB: Babylon was a gold cup in the hand of the LORD, making the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.
8. 8PR38kisti on Baabel kaatunut ja murskaantunut. Valittakaa hänen tähtensä! Hakekaa balsamia hänen kipuunsa, ehkä hän paranee.BSBBSB: Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been shattered. Wail for her; get her balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.
Jättäkää hänet ja menkäämme pois, kukin omaan maahansa; sillä hänen tuomionsa ulottuu taivaaseen asti, kohoaa pilviin saakka.BSBBSB: “We tried to heal Babylon, but she could not be healed. Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgment extends to the sky and reaches to the clouds.”
10. 10PR38Herra on tuonut ilmi meidän vanhurskautemme; tulkaa, julistakaamme Siionissa Herran, meidän Jumalamme, tekoja.'BSBBSB: “The LORD has brought forth our vindication; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD our God has accomplished.”
11. 11PR38Teroittakaa nuolet, täyttäkää viinet! Herra on herättänyt Meedian kuningasten hengen, sillä hänen ajatuksensa käy Baabelia vastaan, sen hävittämiseksi. Tämä on Herran kosto, kosto hänen temppelinsä puolesta.BSBBSB: Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers! The LORD has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His plan is aimed at Babylon to destroy her, for it is the vengeance of the LORD—vengeance for His temple.
12. 12PR38Kohottakaa lippu Baabelin muureja vastaan, vahvistakaa vartiosto, asettakaa vartijat, valmistakaa väijytykset; sillä mitä Herra on ajatellut, sen hän tekeekin, sen minkä hän on puhunut Baabelin asukkaita vastaan.BSBBSB: Raise a banner against the walls of Babylon; post the guard; station the watchmen; prepare the ambush. For the LORD has both devised and accomplished what He spoke against the people of Babylon.
13. 13PR38Sinä, joka asut suurten vetten partailla, joka olet aarteista rikas, sinun loppusi on tullut, sinun väärän voittosi raja.BSBBSB: You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
14. 14PR38Herra Sebaot on vannonut itse kauttansa: Totisesti, minä täytän sinut ihmisillä niinkuin heinäsirkoilla, ja he virittävät sinusta viininkorjuulaulun.BSBBSB: The LORD of Hosts has sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will shout in triumph over you.”
15. 15PR38Hän on tehnyt maan voimallansa, vahvistanut maanpiirin viisaudellansa ja levittänyt taivaat taidollansa.BSBBSB: The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
16. 16PR38Kun hän jylisee, käy vetten pauhina taivaalla, ja hän nostaa pilvet maan ääristä, tekee salamat ja sateen ja tuo tuulen sen säilytyspaikoista.BSBBSB: When He thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
17. 17PR38Järjetön on jokainen ihminen, tietoa vailla, häpeän saa jokainen kultaseppä veistetystä kuvasta, petosta on hänen valamansa kuva, eikä niissä henkeä ole.BSBBSB: Every man is senseless and devoid of knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols. For his molten images are a fraud, and there is no breath in them.
They are worthless, a work to be mocked. In the time of their punishment they will perish.
19. 19PR38Näiden kaltainen ei ole hän, joka on Jaakobin osa, sillä hän on kaiken luoja, ja Jaakob on hänen perintösukunsa: Herra Sebaot on hänen nimensä.BSBBSB: The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and of the tribe of His inheritance—the LORD of Hosts is His name.
20. 20PR38Sinä olit minun vasarani, minun sota-aseeni, sinulla minä musersin kansoja, sinulla minä hävitin valtakuntia.BSBBSB: “You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
21. 21PR38Sinulla minä musersin hevosen ja ratsastajan, sinulla minä musersin vaunut ja ajajan.BSBBSB: With you I shatter the horse and rider; with you I shatter the chariot and driver.
22. 22PR38Sinulla minä musersin miehen ja vaimon, sinulla minä musersin vanhan ja nuoren, sinulla minä musersin nuorukaisen ja neitosen.BSBBSB: With you I shatter man and woman; with you I shatter the old man and the youth; with you I shatter the young man and the maiden.
23. 23PR38Sinulla minä musersin paimenen ja hänen laumansa, sinulla minä musersin peltomiehen ja hänen juhtaparinsa, sinulla minä musersin käskynhaltijat ja päämiehet.BSBBSB: With you I shatter the shepherd and his flock; with you I shatter the farmer and his oxen; with you I shatter the governors and officials.
Before your very eyes I will repay Babylon and all the dwellers of Chaldea for all the evil they have done in Zion,” declares the LORD.
25. 25PR38Katso, minä käyn sinun kimppuusi, sinä hävityksen vuori, joka hävitit koko maan, sanoo Herra. Ja minä ojennan käteni sinua vastaan ja vieritän sinut alas kalliolta ja teen sinusta poltetun vuoren.BSBBSB: “Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a charred mountain.
26. 26PR38Eikä sinusta oteta enää kulmakiveä eikä perustuskiveä, vaan sinä jäät ikuiseksi erämaaksi, sanoo Herra.BSBBSB: No one shall retrieve from you a cornerstone or a foundation stone, because you will become desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
27. 27PR38Nostakaa lippu maassa, puhaltakaa pasunaan kansoissa, vihkikää kansat häntä vastaan, kutsukaa häntä vastaan Araratin, Minnin ja Askenaan valtakunnat, asettakaa päämies häntä vastaan, antakaa tulla hevosia kuin pörheitä heinäsirkkoja.BSBBSB: “Raise a banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the nations! Prepare the nations against her. Summon the kingdoms against her—Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like swarming locusts.
28. 28PR38Vihkikää kansat häntä vastaan, Meedian kuninkaat, sen käskynhaltijat ja kaikki päämiehet ja koko sen vallan alainen maa.BSBBSB: Prepare the nations for battle against her—the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
29. 29PR38Ja maa vapisee ja vääntelehtii tuskasta, sillä Herran aivoitukset täyttyvät Baabelia vastaan: hän tekee Baabelin maasta asumattoman erämaan.BSBBSB: The earth quakes and writhes because the LORD’s intentions against Babylon stand: to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
30. 30PR38Baabelin sankarit lakkaavat taistelemasta, he istuvat linnoituksissaan, heidän voimansa on kuihtunut, he ovat naisiksi muuttuneet; sen asunnot ovat poltetut, sen salvat rikotut.BSBBSB: The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set ablaze, the bars of her gates are broken.
31. 31PR38Juoksija juoksee juoksijaa vastaan, sanansaattaja sanansaattajaa vastaan, ilmoittamaan Baabelin kuninkaalle, että hänen kaupunkinsa on valloitettu äärestä toiseen,BSBBSB: One courier races to meet another, and messenger follows messenger, to announce to the king of Babylon that his city has been captured from end to end.
32. 32PR38kahlauspaikat vallatut, linnoitukset tulella poltetut ja sotamiehet kauhun vallassa.BSBBSB: The fords have been seized, the marshes set on fire, and the soldiers are terrified.”
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “The Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled. In just a little while her harvest time will come.”
34. 34PR38Nebukadressar, Baabelin kuningas, on minut syönyt, hävittänyt minut, pannut syrjään kuin tyhjän astian; hän on niellyt minut niinkuin lohikäärme, täyttänyt vatsansa minun herkuillani ja huuhtonut minut pois.BSBBSB: “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me. He has set me aside like an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he filled his belly with my delicacies and vomited me out.
35. 35PR38'Kärsimäni väkivalta ja minun raadeltu lihani tulkoon Baabelin päälle', sanoo Siionin asukas. 'Minun vereni tulkoon Kaldean asukasten päälle', sanoo Jerusalem.BSBBSB: May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon,” says the dweller of Zion. “May my blood be on the dwellers of Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.
36. 36PR38Sentähden näin sanoo Herra: Katso, minä ajan sinun asiasi ja kostan sinun kostosi. Minä kuivaan hänen virtansa ja ehdytän hänen lähteensä.BSBBSB: Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I will plead your case and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her springs run dry.
37. 37PR38Ja Baabel tulee kiviroukkioksi, aavikkosutten asunnoksi, kauhistukseksi ja ivan vihellykseksi, aivan asujattomaksi.BSBBSB: Babylon will become a heap of rubble, a haunt for jackals, an object of horror and scorn, without inhabitant.
38. 38PR38He kiljuvat kaikki kuin nuoret leijonat, murisevat kuin naarasleijonain pennut.BSBBSB: They will roar together like young lions; they will growl like lion cubs.
39. 39PR38Kun he ovat himossansa kiihkeimmillään, teen minä heille juomingit ja juovutan heidät, että he riemastuvat ja nukkuvat ikuiseen uneen eivätkä enää heräjä, sanoo Herra.BSBBSB: While they are flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them drunk so that they may revel; then they will fall asleep forever and never wake up, declares the LORD.
40. 40PR38Minä vien heidät teurastettaviksi, niinkuin karitsat, niinkuin oinaat ja kauriit.BSBBSB: I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.
41. 41PR38Kuinka onkaan valloitettu Seesak, vallattu se, jota ylisti kaikki maa! Kuinka onkaan Baabelista tullut kauhistus kansojen seassa!BSBBSB: How Sheshach has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!
42. 42PR38Meri nousi Baabelin yli, sen aaltojen pauhuun se peittyi.BSBBSB: The sea has come up over Babylon; she is covered in turbulent waves.
43. 43PR38Sen kaupungit ovat tulleet autiomaaksi, kuivaksi maaksi ja aromaaksi, maaksi, jossa ei asu kenkään, jossa ei ihmislapsi kulje.BSBBSB: Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and arid land, a land where no one lives, where no son of man passes through.
Baabelin muurikin on kaatunut.BSBBSB: I will punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him spew out what he swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
45. 45PR38Lähde pois sen keskeltä, minun kansani, ja pelastakoon kukin henkensä Herran vihan hehkusta.BSBBSB: Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Do not let your heart grow faint, and do not be afraid when the rumor is heard in the land; for a rumor will come one year—and then another the next year—of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
47. 47PR38Sentähden katso, päivät tulevat, jolloin minä kostan Baabelin jumalankuville, jolloin koko sen maa joutuu häpeään ja kaikki kaatuvat surmattuina sen keskellä.BSBBSB: Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire land will suffer shame, and all her slain will lie fallen within her.
Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon because the destroyers from the north will come against her,” declares the LORD.
49. 49PR38Baabelinkin on kaatuminen, te Israelin surmatut, niinkuin Baabelin tähden kaatui surmatuita kautta kaiken maan.BSBBSB: “Babylon must fall on account of the slain of Israel, just as the slain of all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.
50. 50PR38Te miekasta pelastuneet, menkää, älkää pysähtykö, muistakaa Herraa kaukaisella maalla ja pitäkää mielessänne Jerusalem.BSBBSB: You who have escaped the sword, depart and do not linger! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come to mind.”
51. 51PR38'Me häpeämme, sillä me kuulemme pilkkaa; häpeä peittää meidän kasvomme, sillä muukalaiset ovat käyneet Herran temppelin pyhyyksien kimppuun.'BSBBSB: “We are ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.
53. 53PR38Vaikka Baabel astuisi ylös taivaaseen, vaikka se korkeuteen linnansa vahvistaisi, sittenkin tulevat sille minulta hävittäjät, sanoo Herra.BSBBSB: Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
54. 54PR38Kuule, huuto Baabelista, suuri hävityksen melske kaldealaisten maasta!BSBBSB: “The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55. 55PR38Sillä Herra hävittää Baabelin ja lopettaa sieltä suuren äänten melun. Heidän aaltonsa pauhaavat kuin suuret vedet, korkea on heidän äänensä kohina.BSBBSB: For the LORD will destroy Babylon; He will silence her mighty voice. The waves will roar like great waters; the tumult of their voices will resound.
56. 56PR38Sillä hävittäjä käy Baabelin kimppuun, ja sen sankarit vangitaan, heidän jousensa murretaan; sillä Herra on koston Jumala: hän maksaa tarkoin.BSBBSB: For a destroyer is coming against her—against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken, for the LORD is a God of retribution; He will repay in full.
I will make her princes and wise men drunk, along with her governors, officials, and warriors. Then they will fall asleep forever and not wake up,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.
58. 58PR38Näin sanoo Herra Sebaot: Baabelin leveä muuri hajotetaan maahan, ja sen korkeat portit poltetaan tulella. Niin tekevät kansat työtä tyhjän tähden, kansakunnat tulen hyväksi, ja vaivaavat itsensä väsyksiin."BSBBSB: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for nothing; the nations will exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
59. 59PR38Asia, jonka profeetta Jeremia antoi Serajalle, Neerian, Mahsejan pojan, pojalle toimitettavaksi, kun tämä lähti Sidkian, Juudan kuninkaan, kanssa Baabeliin hänen neljäntenä hallitusvuotenansa. Seraja oli majoituspäällikkö.BSBBSB: This is the message that Jeremiah the prophet gave to the quartermaster Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with King Zedekiah of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s reign.
60. 60PR38Jeremia kirjoitti kaiken sen onnettomuuden, joka oli tuleva Baabelille, erityiseen kirjaan, kaikki nämä sanat, jotka ovat kirjoitetut Baabelia vastaan.BSBBSB: Jeremiah had written on a single scroll about all the disaster that would come upon Babylon—all these words that had been written concerning Babylon.
61. 61PR38Ja Jeremia sanoi Serajalle: "Kun tulet Baabeliin, niin katso, että luet kaikki nämä sanat.BSBBSB: And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud,
You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast. Indeed, it will be desolate forever.’
When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates.
64. 64PR38ja sano: Näin uppoaa Baabel eikä nouse enää siitä onnettomuudesta, jonka minä sille tuotan, vaan he vaipuvat." Näin pitkälle Jeremian sanat.BSBBSB: Then you are to say, ‘In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again, because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will grow weary.’” Here end the words of Jeremiah.
