1. 1GAXMarroo jecha jiru'uu ka jalqabaa jalqabee jiruu, ka gurra keennaan dhageenne, ka ila teennaan dhaggine, ka ilaallee fi ka harka keennaan qaqqannee isiniif barreessina.BSBBSB: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.
2. 2GAXJiruun tun mudhifanteerti; nuutille dhaggineerra, dhugaalle hin baana. Jiruu bara baraa ta Abbaa woliin turtee, nu'utti mudhifante tana isinitti hinna.BSBBSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4. 4GAXGammadi keenna guutuu akka te'uuf tana barreessina.BSBBSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
5. 5GAXErgaan nuuti isa irraa dhageennee isinitti hinnu, «Waaqi ifa; dukkanti isa keessa ijjumaa hin jirtu» ta jettu tana.BSBBSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6. 6GAXWaaqa woliin tokkummaa qanna jedhaa, dukkana keessa yoo deddeebine hin sonna; dhugaan nu keessa hin jirtu.BSBBSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7. 7GAXAmmoo akkuma inni ifa keessa jiru, nuutille ifa keessa yoo deddeebine woli woliif tokkummaa qanna; dhiigi Ilma isaa ka Yesuusii, cubbuu teenna mara irraa nu qulleessa.BSBBSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8. 8GAXCubbuu hin qannu yoo jenne ifi sonna; dhugaalle nu keessa hin jirtu.BSBBSB: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9. 9GAXCubbuu teenna yoo Waaqatti dhugaa baanne inni addatama'aa fi qajeelaa waan te'eef cubbuu teenna nu'uuf hin araarama; jalluu teenna mara irralle'ee nu hin qulleessa.BSBBSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10. 10GAXNuuti cubbuu hunyee hin jirru yoo jenne, Waaqa dharaamessa goona; jechi isaalle nu keessa hin jiru.BSBBSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
