1Yennaa kolbaan Efreemii dubbatte, namooti hollatane; isaan Israa'el keessatti saadamane. Ammoo isaan waaqa dharaa Ba'aal waaqonfatiisaan cubbuu hujanee du'ane.When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel. But he incurred guilt through Baal, and he died.

2Ammalle isaan waaqota dharaa ka nami hujii beeku qarumma'aan huju, meetii ifii irraa hujiisaan ittuma ede'anee cubbuu hujan; waaqoti dharaa sun martinuu hujii nama hujii harkaa beekuu ti. Isaan, «Waaqota dharaa kanaaf ciincaa dhikeessa'a» jedhan. Namooti waaqa dharaa ka jabbii fakkaatu kana sunqatan.Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves!”

3Tanaaf, isaan akka hurrii ganamaa ti; akka fixeensa bari'iin dafee bu'uu ti; akka hicaacee eeddummee keessaa qilleensi fudhatuu, akka aara karaa fodda'aatiin bayuu hin te'an.Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that vanishes, like chaff blown from a threshing floor, like smoke through an open window.

4Mootiin Waan Maraa, «Ani ammoo Mootii Waan Maraa Waaqa keessan ka biyya Gibxi'ii keessaa isin baase; isin ana malee Waaqa dhibii hin beettanu; ana malee fayyisaan hin jiru.Yet I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.

5Ani goomolee keessatti, lafa o'a bobe'a keessatti isin eege.I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of drought.

6Ani yennaa isaan areere, isaan quufane; isaan yennaa quufane, kooranee na dedhane.When they had pasture, they became satisfied; when they were satisfied, their hearts became proud, and as a result they forgot Me.

7Ani akka neenqaa isaanitti hin dhufa; akka qeeransaa karaa cina'atti isaan hin gaada.So like a lion I will pounce on them; like a leopard I will lurk by the path.

8Akka doobbaa ilmoolee jalaa fudhatanee, ani isaan hin dhowa; qoma isaanii cassee bana. Ani akka neenqaa isaan hin nyaadha; bineensi isaan hin bibixxila.Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will tear open their chests. There I will devour them like a lion, like a wild beast tearing them apart.

9«Ee kolbaa Israa'elii, qarqaaraa keessan ka te'e, na irratti waan kaataneef, hin baddan.You are destroyed, O Israel, because you are against Me—against your helper.

10Isin, ‹Mooti'ii fi qondaaltota nuuf kenni› jettaneertan; akka isin baasuuf, mootiin keessan meet ree? Qachoota keessan mara keessa bulchitooti teessan meet ree?Where is your king now to save you in all your cities, and the rulers to whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”?

11Maarre ani aarii tiyyaan mootii isiniif kennee, mufii tiyyaan achii isa balleesse.So in My anger I gave you a king, and in My wrath I took him away.

12«Yakkaan Efreemii kuufanteerti; cubbuun isaa galmeeffanteerti.The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is stored up.

13Akka dubartii deettuu ciniinsuun itti dhutti; inni ammoo mucaa qaro'oo moti. Guyyaan inni dhalatu yennaa gewu, gadaamessa keessaa hin baane.Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the opening of the womb.

14Ani hunna addee worri du'e jiruu jalaa isaan hin baasuu ree? Du'a jalalle'ee isaan hin woduu ree? Ee du'a! Balaan keeti meet ree? Ee addee worri du'e jiru! Badiin teeti ta ati fiddu meet ree? Ani haganaa achi kolbaa tana hin mararu.I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from Death. Where, O Death, are your plagues? Where, O Sheol, is your sting? Compassion is hidden from My eyes.

15Efreem obboleeyyan ifii oddu'utti midhaan yoo baaselle, qilleensi karaa aduun baatuu, Mootii Waan Maraa biraa, goomolee keessaa ka'ee hin dhufa; maddi hin maddu; baleessi hin goga; wonni gatii qabu marti mana kuusa'aa keessaa hin saamanti.Although he flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come—a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will plunder his treasury of every precious article.

16Kolbaan Samaariya'aa Waaqa ifii irratti waan kaateef, yakkaa ifiitiif adabamuu qaddi; isaan shallaaga'aan hin du'an; daa'immaan isaanii lafatti dhowanee hin macalaasan; dubartoota isaanii ta ulfaalle gadhaa isaanii hin baqassan» jedha.Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.
