1. Christ’s Eternal Priesthood

2. 1GNVNowe of the things which we haue spoken, this is the summe, that wee haue such an hie Priest, that sitteth at the right hand of the throne of the Maiestie in heauens,BSBBSB: The point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,
3. 2GNVAnd is a minister of the Sanctuarie, and of that true Tabernacle which the Lord pight, and not man.BSBBSB: and who ministers in the sanctuary and true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man.
4. 3GNVFor euery high Priest is ordeined to offer both giftes and sacrifices: wherefore it was of necessitie, that this man shoulde haue somewhat also to offer.BSBBSB: And since every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer.
5. 4GNVFor he were not a Priest, if he were on the earth, seeing there are Priestes that according to the Lawe offer giftes,BSBBSB: Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are already priests who offer gifts according to the law.
6. 5GNVWho serue vnto the paterne and shadowe of heauenly things, as Moses was warned by God, whe he was about to finish the Tabernacle. See, saide hee, that thou make all thinges according to the paterne, shewed to thee in the mount.BSBBSB: The place where they serve is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”

7. The New Covenant

   (Jeremiah 31:26–40)

8. 6GNVBut nowe our hie Priest hath obteined a more excellent office, in as much as he is the Mediatour of a better Testament, which is established vpon better promises.BSBBSB: Now, however, Jesus has received a much more excellent ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is better and is founded on better promises.
9. 7GNVFor if that first Testament had bene vnblameable, no place should haue bene sought for the second.BSBBSB: For if that first covenant had been without fault, no place would have been sought for a second.
10. 8GNVFor in rebuking them he saith, Beholde, the dayes will come, saith the Lord, when I shall make with the house of Israel, and with the house of Iuda a newe Testament:BSBBSB: But God found fault with the people and said: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
11. 9GNVNot like the Testament that I made with their fathers, in the day that I tooke them by the hand, to leade them out of the land of Egypt: for they continued not in my Testament, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.BSBBSB: It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, declares the Lord.
12. 10GNVFor this is the Testament that I will make with the house of Israel, After those dayes, saith the Lord, I will put my Lawes in their minde, and in their heart I will write them, and I wil be their God, and they shalbe my people,BSBBSB: For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds and inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
13. 11GNVAnd they shall not teache euery man his neighbour and euery man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall knowe me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.BSBBSB: No longer will each one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest.
14. 12GNVFor I will bee mercifull to their vnrighteousnes, and I wil remember their sinnes and their iniquities no more.BSBBSB: For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more.”
15. 13GNVIn that he saith a new Testament, he hath abrogate the olde: nowe that which is disanulled and waxed olde, is ready to vanish away.BSBBSB: By speaking of a new covenant, He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.
