Exodus 28 (LXX)

1ΚΑΙ σὺ προσαγάγου πρὸς σεαυτὸν τόν τε Ἀαρὼν τὸν ἀδελφόν σου καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἱερατεύειν μοι, Ἀαρὼν καὶ Ναδὰβ καὶ Ἀβιοὺδ καὶ Ἐλεάζαρ καὶ Ἰθάμαρ υἱοὺς Ἀαρών.“Next, have your brother Aaron brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, to serve Me as priests.

2καὶ ποιήσεις στολὴν ἁγίαν Ἀαρὼν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου εἰς τιμὴν καὶ δόξαν.Make holy garments for your brother Aaron, to give him glory and splendor.

3καὶ σὺ λάλησον πᾶσι τοῖς σοφοῖς τῇ διανοίᾳ, οὓς ἐνέπλησαν πνεύματος σοφίας καὶ αἰσθήσεως, καὶ ποιήσουσι τὴν στολὴν τὴν ἁγίαν Ἀαρὼν εἰς τὸ ἅγιον, ἐν ᾗ ἱερατεύσει μοι.You are to instruct all the skilled craftsmen, whom I have filled with a spirit of wisdom, to make garments for Aaron’s consecration, so that he may serve Me as priest.

4καὶ αὗται αἱ στολαί, ἃς ποιήσουσι· τὸ περιστήθιον καὶ τὴν ἐπωμίδα καὶ τὸν ποδήρη καὶ χιτῶνα κοσυμβωτὸν καὶ κίδαριν καὶ ζώνην· καὶ ποιήσουσι στολὰς ἁγίας Ἀαρὼν καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ ἱερατεύειν μοι.These are the garments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban, and a sash. They are to make these holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so that they may serve Me as priests.

5καὶ αὐτοὶ λήψονται τὸ χρυσίον καὶ τὸν ὑάκινθον καὶ τὴν πορφύραν καὶ τὸ κόκκινον καὶ τὴν βύσσον.They shall use gold, along with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.

6καὶ ποιήσουσι τὴν ἐπωμίδα ἐκ βύσσου κεκλωσμένης, ἔργον ὑφαντὸν ποικιλτοῦ·They are to make the ephod of finely spun linen embroidered with gold, and with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn.

7δύο ἐπωμίδες συνέχουσαι ἔσονται αὐτῷ ἑτέρα τὴν ἑτέραν, ἐπὶ τοῖς δυσὶ μέρεσιν ἐξηρτημέναι·It shall have two shoulder pieces attached at two of its corners, so it can be fastened.

8καὶ τὸ ὕφασμα τῶν ἐπωμίδων, ὅ ἐστιν ἐπ᾿ αὐτῷ, κατὰ τὴν ποίησιν ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἔσται ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ καὶ ὑακίνθου καὶ πορφύρας καὶ κοκκίνου διανενησμένου καὶ βύσσου κεκλωσμένης·And the skillfully woven waistband of the ephod must be of one piece, of the same workmanship—with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely spun linen.

9καὶ λήψῃ τοὺς δύο λίθους, λίθους σμαράγδου, καὶ γλύψεις ἐν αὐτοῖς τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ,Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel:

10ἓξ ὀνόματα ἐπὶ τὸν λίθον τὸν ἕνα καὶ τὰ ἓξ ὀνόματα τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπὶ τὸν λίθον τὸν δεύτερον κατὰ τὰς γενέσεις αὐτῶν.six of their names on one stone and the remaining six on the other, in the order of their birth.

11ἔργον λιθουργικῆς τέχνης, γλύμμα σφραγῖδος, διαγλύψεις τοὺς δύο λίθους ἐπὶ τοῖς ὀνόμασι τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings.

12καὶ θήσεις τοὺς δύο λίθους ἐπὶ τῶν ὤμων τῆς ἐπωμίδος· λίθοι μνημοσύνου εἰσὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραήλ· καὶ ἀναλήψεται Ἀαρὼν τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἔναντι Κυρίου ἐπὶ τῶν δύο ὤμων αὐτοῦ, μνημόσυνον περὶ αὐτῶν.Fasten both stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear their names on his two shoulders as a memorial before the LORD.

13καὶ ποιήσεις ἀσπιδίσκας ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ·Fashion gold filigree settings

14καὶ ποιήσεις δύο κροσσωτὰ ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ, καταμεμιγμένα ἐν ἄνθεσιν, ἔργον πλοκῆς· καὶ ἐπιθήσεις τὰ κροσσωτὰ τὰ πεπλεγμένα ἐπὶ τὰς ἀσπιδίσκας κατὰ τὰς παρωμίδας αὐτῶν ἐκ τῶν ἐμπροσθίων.and two chains of pure gold, made of braided cord work; and attach these chains to the settings.

15καὶ ποιήσεις λογεῖον τῶν κρίσεων, ἔργον ποικιλτοῦ· κατὰ τὸν ρυθμὸν τῆς ἐπωμίδος ποιήσεις αὐτό· ἐκ χρυσίου καὶ ὑακίνθου καὶ πορφύρας καὶ κοκκίνου κεκλωσμένου καὶ βύσσου κεκλωσμένης ποιήσεις αὐτό.You are also to make a breastpiece of judgment with the same workmanship as the ephod. Construct it with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely spun linen.

16τετράγωνον ἔσται, διπλοῦν, σπιθαμῆς τὸ μῆκος αὐτοῦ καὶ σπιθαμῆς τὸ εὖρος.It must be square when folded over double, a span long and a span wide.

17καὶ καθυφανεῖς ἐν αὐτῷ ὕφασμα κατάλιθον τετράστιχον. στίχος λίθων ἔσται, σάρδιον, τοπάζιον καὶ σμάραγδος, ὁ στίχος ὁ εἷς·And mount on it a setting of gemstones, four rows of stones: In the first row there shall be a ruby, a topaz, and an emerald;

18καὶ ὁ στίχος ὁ δεύτερος, ἄνθραξ καὶ σάπφειρος καὶ ἴασπις·in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond;

19καὶ ὁ στίχος ὁ τρίτος, λιγύριον, ἀχάτης καὶ ἀμέθυστος·in the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;

20καὶ ὁ στίχος ὁ τέταρτος, χρυσόλιθος καὶ βηρύλλιον καὶ ὀνύχιον· περικεκαλυμμένα χρυσίῳ, συνδεδεμένα ἐν χρυσίῳ, ἔστωσαν κατὰ στίχον αὐτῶν.and in the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. Mount these stones in gold filigree settings.

21καὶ οἱ λίθοι ἔστωσαν ἐκ τῶν ὀνομάτων τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ δεκαδύο κατὰ τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν· γλυφαὶ σφραγίδων, ἕκαστος κατὰ τὸ ὄνομα, ἔστωσαν εἰς δεκαδύο φυλάς.The twelve stones are to correspond to the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.

23καὶ ποιήσεις ἐπὶ τὸ λογεῖον κρωσσοὺς συμπεπλεγμένους, ἔργον ἁλυσιδωτὸν ἐκ χρυσίου καθαροῦ.You are also to make two gold rings and fasten them to the two corners of the breastpiece.

29καὶ λήψεται Ἀαρὼν τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ τοῦ λογείου τῆς κρίσεως ἐπὶ τοῦ στήθους, εἰσιόντι εἰς τὸ ἅγιον, μνημόσυνον ἐναντίον τοῦ Θεοῦ. καὶ θήσεις ἐπὶ τὸ λογεῖον τῆς κρίσεως τοὺς κρωσσούς· τὰ ἁλυσιδωτὰ ἐπ᾿ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν κλιτῶν τοῦ λογείου ἐπιθήσεις καὶ τὰς δύο ἀσπιδίσκας ἐπιθήσεις ἐπ᾿ ἀμφοτέρους τοὺς ὤμους τῆς ἐπωμίδος κατὰ πρόσωπον.Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he shall bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of judgment, as a continual reminder before the LORD.

30καὶ ἐπιθήσεις ἐπὶ τὸ λογεῖον τῆς κρίσεως τὴν δήλωσιν καὶ τὴν ἀλήθειαν, καὶ ἔσται ἐπὶ τοῦ στήθους Ἀαρών, ὅταν εἰσπορεύηται εἰς τὸ ἅγιον ἔναντι Κυρίου. καὶ οἴσει Ἀαρὼν τὰς κρίσεις τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ τοῦ στήθους ἔναντι Κυρίου διαπαντός.And place the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece of judgment, so that they will also be over Aaron’s heart whenever he comes before the LORD. Aaron will continually carry the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD.

31καὶ ποιήσεις ὑποδύτην ποδήρη ὅλον ὑακίνθινον.You are to make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth,

32καὶ ἔσται τὸ περιστόμιον ἐξ αὐτοῦ μέσον, ὤαν ἔχον κύκλῳ τοῦ περιστομίου, ἔργον ὑφάντου, τὴν συμβολὴν συνυφασμένην ἐξ αὐτοῦ, ἵνα μὴ ραγῇ.with an opening at its top in the center. Around the opening shall be a woven collar with an opening like that of a garment, so that it will not tear.

33καὶ ποιήσεις ἐπὶ τὸ λῶμα τοῦ ὑποδύτου κάτωθεν, ὡσεὶ ἐξανθούσης ρόας ροΐσκους ἐξ ὑακίνθου καὶ πορφύρας καὶ κοκκίνου διανενησμένου καὶ βύσσου κεκλωσμένης ἐπί τοῦ λώματος τοῦ ὑποδύτου κύκλῳ· τὸ αὐτὸ εἶδος ροΐσκους χρυσοῦς καὶ κώδωνας ἀναμέσον τούτων περικύκλῳ·Make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn all the way around the lower hem, with gold bells between them,

34παρὰ ροΐσκον χρυσοῦν κώδωνα καὶ ἄνθινον ἐπὶ τοῦ λώματος τοῦ ὑποδύτου κύκλῳ.alternating the gold bells and pomegranates around the lower hem of the robe.

35καὶ ἔσται Ἀαρὼν ἐν τῷ λειτουργεῖν ἀκουστὴ ἡ φωνὴ αὐτοῦ, εἰσιόντι εἰς τὸ ἅγιον ἔναντι Κυρίου καὶ ἐξιόντι, ἵνα μὴ ἀποθάνῃ.Aaron must wear the robe whenever he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he enters or exits the sanctuary before the LORD, so that he will not die.

36καὶ ποιήσεις πέταλον χρυσοῦν καθαρὸν καὶ ἐκτυπώσεις ἐν αὐτῷ ἐκτύπωμα σφραγῖδος Ἁγίασμα Κυρίου.You are to make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.

37καὶ ἐπιθήσεις αὐτὸ ἐπὶ ὑακίνθου κεκλωσμένης, καὶ ἔσται ἐπί τῆς μίτρας· κατά πρόσωπον τῆς μίτρας ἔσται.Fasten to it a blue cord to mount it on the turban; it shall be on the front of the turban.

38καὶ ἔσται ἐπὶ τοῦ μετώπου Ἀαρών, καὶ ἐξαρεῖ Ἀαρὼν τὰ ἁμαρτήματα τῶν ἁγίων, ὅσα ἂν ἁγιάσωσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραήλ, παντὸς δόματος τῶν ἁγίων αὐτῶν· καὶ ἔσται ἐπὶ τοῦ μετώπου Ἀαρὼν διαπαντός, δεκτὸν αὐτοῖς ἔναντι Κυρίου.And it will be worn on Aaron’s forehead, so that he may bear the iniquity of the holy things that the sons of Israel consecrate with regard to all their holy gifts. It shall always be on his forehead, so that they may be acceptable before the LORD.

39καὶ οἱ κοσυμβωτοὶ τῶν χιτώνων ἐκ βύσσου· καὶ ποιήσεις κίδαριν βυσσίνην καὶ ζώνην ποιήσεις, ἔργον ποικιλτοῦ.You are to weave the tunic with fine linen, make the turban of fine linen, and fashion an embroidered sash.

40καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἀαρὼν ποιήσεις χιτῶνας καὶ ζώνας καὶ κιδάρεις ποιήσεις αὐτοῖς εἰς τιμὴν καὶ δόξαν.Make tunics, sashes, and headbands for Aaron’s sons, to give them glory and splendor.

41καὶ ἐνδύσεις αὐτὰ Ἀαρὼν τὸν ἀδελφόν σου, καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ· καὶ χρίσεις αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐμπλήσεις αὐτῶν τὰς χεῖρας καὶ ἁγιάσεις αὐτούς, ἵνα ἱερατεύωσί μοι.After you put these garments on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint them, ordain them, and consecrate them so that they may serve Me as priests.

42καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτοῖς περισκελῆ λινᾶ καλύψαι ἀσχημοσύνην χρωτὸς αὐτῶν· ἀπὸ ὀσφύος ἕως μηρῶν ἔσται.Make linen undergarments to cover their bare flesh, extending from waist to thigh.

43καὶ ἕξει Ἀαρὼν αὐτὰ καὶ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἂν εἰσπορεύωνται εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἢ ὅταν προσπορεύωνται λειτουργεῖν πρὸς τὸ θυσιαστήριον τοῦ ἁγίου, καὶ οὐκ ἐπάξονται πρός ἑαυτοὺς ἁμαρτίαν, ἵνα μὴ ἀποθάνωσι· νόμιμον αἰώνιον αὐτῷ καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ᾿ αὐτόν.Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. This is to be a permanent statute for Aaron and his descendants.
