1. 1LXXΚΑΙ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρός με λέγων·BSBBSB: Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2. 2LXXυἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, διήγησαι διήγημα καὶ εἰπὸν παραβολὴν πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἸσραὴλBSBBSB: “Son of man, pose a riddle; speak a parable to the house of Israel
3. 3LXXκαὶ ἐρεῖς· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ὁ ἀετὸς ὁ μέγας ὁ μεγαλοπτέρυγος, ὁ μακρὸς τῇ ἐκτάσει, πλήρης ὀνύχων, ὃς ἔχει τὸ ἥγημα εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸν Λίβανον καὶ ἔλαβε τὰ ἐπίλεκτα τῆς κέδρου,BSBBSB: and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers of many colors, came to Lebanon and took away the top of the cedar.
4. 4LXXτὰ ἄκρα τῆς ἁπαλότητος ἀπέκνισε καὶ ἤνεγκεν αὐτὰ εἰς γῆν Χαναάν, εἰς πόλιν τετειχισμένην ἔθετο αὐτά.BSBBSB: He plucked off its topmost shoot, carried it to the land of merchants, and planted it in a city of traders.
5. 5LXXκαὶ ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ τοῦ σπέρματος τῆς γῆς καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸ εἰς τὸ πεδίον φυτὸν ἐφ᾿ ὕδατι πολλῷ, ἐπιβλεπόμενον ἔταξεν αὐτό.BSBBSB: He took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil; he placed it by abundant waters and set it out like a willow.
6. 6LXXκαὶ ἀνέτειλε καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς ἄμπελον ἀσθενοῦσαν καὶ μικρὰν τῷ μεγέθει τοῦ ἐπιφαίνεσθαι αὐτήν· τὰ κλήματα αὐτῆς ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν καὶ ρίζαι αὐτῆς ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς ἦσαν. καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς ἄμπελον καὶ ἐποίησεν ἀπώρυγας καὶ ἐξέτεινε τὴν ἀναδενδράδα αὐτῆς.BSBBSB: It sprouted and became a spreading vine, low in height, with branches turned toward him; yet its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and yielded branches and sent out shoots.
7. 7LXXκαὶ ἐγένετο ἀετὸς ἕτερος μέγας, μεγαλοπτέρυγος, πολὺς ὄνυξι, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ ἄμπελος αὕτη περιπεπλεγμένη πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ρίζαι αὐτῆς πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ τὰ κλήματα αὐτῆς ἐξαπέστειλεν αὐτῷ τοῦ ποτίσαι αὐτὴν σὺν τῷ βώλῳ τῆς φυτείας αὐτῆς.BSBBSB: But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
8. 8LXXεἰς πεδίον καλὸν ἐφ᾿ ὕδατι πολλῷ αὕτη πιαίνεται τοῦ ποιεῖν βλαστοὺς καὶ φέρειν καρπόν, τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἄμπελον μεγάλην.BSBBSB: It had been planted in good soil by abundant waters in order to yield branches and bear fruit and become a splendid vine.’
9. 9LXXδιὰ τοῦτο εἰπόν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· εἰ κατευθυνεῖ; οὐχὶ αἱ ρίζαι τῆς ἁπαλότητος αὐτῆς καὶ ὁ καρπὸς σαπήσεται, καὶ ξηρανθήσεται πάντα τὰ προανατέλλοντα αὐτῆς; καὶ οὐκ ἐν βραχίονι μεγάλῳ, οὐδὲ ἐν λαῷ πολλῷ τοῦ ἐκσπᾶσαι αὐτὴν ἐκ ριζῶν αὐτῆς·BSBBSB: So you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Will it flourish? Will it not be uprooted and stripped of its fruit so that it shrivels? All its foliage will wither! It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by its roots.
10. 10LXXκαὶ ἰδοὺ πιαίνεται· μὴ κατευθυνεῖ; οὐχὶ ἅμα τῷ ἅψασθαι αὐτῆς ἀνεμον τὸν καύσωνα ξηρανθήσεται; σὺν τῷ βώλῳ ἀνατολῆς αὐτῆς ξηρανθήσεται.BSBBSB: Even if it is transplanted, will it flourish? Will it not completely wither when the east wind strikes? It will wither on the bed where it sprouted.’”
11. 11LXXΚαὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρός με λέγων·BSBBSB: Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
12. 12LXXυἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, εἰπὸν δὴ πρὸς τὸν οἶκον τὸν παραπικραίνοντα· οὐκ ἐπίστασθε τί ἦν ταῦτα; εἰπόν· ὅταν ἔλθῃ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐπὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ λήψεται τὸν βασιλέα αὐτῆς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας αὐτῆς καὶ ἄξῃ αὐτοὺς πρὸς ἑαυτὸν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα.BSBBSB: “Now say to this rebellious house: ‘Do you not know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, carried off its king and officials, and brought them back with him to Babylon.
13. 13LXXκαὶ λήψεται ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος τῆς βασιλείας καὶ διαθήσεται πρὸς αὐτὸν διαθήκην καὶ εἰσάξει αὐτὸν ἐν ἀρᾷ, καὶ τοὺς ἡγεμόνας τῆς γῆς λήψεταιBSBBSB: He took a member of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. Then he carried away the leading men of the land,
14. 14LXXτοῦ γενέσθαι εἰς βασιλείαν ἀσθενῆ τὸ καθόλου μὴ ἐπαίρεσθαι, τοῦ φυλάσσειν τὴν διαθήκην αὐτοῦ καὶ ἱστάνειν αὐτήν.BSBBSB: so that the kingdom would be brought low, unable to lift itself up, surviving only by keeping his covenant.
15. 15LXXκαὶ ἀποστήσεται ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἐξαποστέλλειν ἀγγέλους ἑαυτοῦ εἰς Αἴγυπτον, τοῦ δοῦναι αὐτῷ ἵππους καὶ λαὸν πολύν. εἰ κατευθυνεῖ; εἰ διασωθήσεται ὁ ποιῶν ἐναντία; καὶ παραβαίνων διαθήκην εἰ διασωθήσεται;BSBBSB: But this king rebelled against Babylon by sending his envoys to Egypt to ask for horses and a large army. Will he flourish? Will the one who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and yet escape?’
16. 16LXXζῶ ἐγώ, λέγει Κύριος, ἐὰν μὴ ἐν ᾧ τόπῳ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ βασιλεύσας αὐτόν, ὃς ἠτίμωσε τὴν ἀράν μου καὶ ὃς παρέβη τὴν διαθήκην μου, μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἐν μέσῳ Βαβυλῶνος τελευτήσει.BSBBSB: ‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘he will die in Babylon, in the land of the king who enthroned him, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke.
17. 17LXXκαὶ οὐκ ἐν δυνάμει μεγάλῃ οὐδὲ ἐν ὄχλῳ πολλῷ ποιήσει πρὸς αὐτὸν Φαραὼ πόλεμον, ἐν χαρακοβολίᾳ καὶ ἐν οἰκοδομῇ βελοστάσεων τοῦ ἐξᾶραι ψυχάς.BSBBSB: Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast horde will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.
18. 18LXXκαὶ ἠτίμωσεν ὁρκωμοσίαν τοῦ παραβῆναι διαθήκην, καὶ ἰδοὺ δέδωκε τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντα ταῦτα ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ· μὴ σωθήσεται;BSBBSB: He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Seeing that he gave his hand in pledge yet did all these things, he will not escape!’
19. 19LXXδιὰ τοῦτο εἰπόν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ζῶ ἐγὼ ἐὰν μὴ τὴν ὁρκωμοσίαν μου, ἣν ἠτίμωσε, καὶ τὴν διαθήκην μου, ἣν παρέβη, καὶ δώσω αὐτὰ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.BSBBSB: Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I live, I will bring down upon his head My oath that he despised and My covenant that he broke.
20. 20LXXκαὶ ἐκπετάσω ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν τὸ δίκτυόν μου, καὶ ἁλώσεται ἐν τῇ περιοχῇ αὐτοῦ.BSBBSB: I will spread My net over him and catch him in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment upon him there for the treason he committed against Me.
21. 21LXXἐν πάσῃ παρατάξει αὐτοῦ ἐν ρομφαίᾳ πεσοῦνται, καὶ τοὺς καταλοίπους εἰς πάντα ἄνεμον διασπερῶ, καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος λελάληκα.BSBBSB: All his choice troops will fall by the sword, and those who survive will be scattered to every wind. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken.’
22. 22LXXΔιότι τάδε λέγει Κύριος· καὶ λήψομαι ἐγὼ ἐκ τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν τῆς κέδρου, ἐκ κορυφῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἀποκνιῶ καὶ καταφυτεύσω ἐγὼ ἐπ᾿ ὄρος ὑψηλόν·BSBBSB: This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take a shoot from the lofty top of the cedar, and I will set it out. I will pluck a tender sprig from its topmost shoots, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
23. 23LXXκαὶ κρεμάσω αὐτὸν ἐν ὄρει μετεώρῳ τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ καταφυτεύσω, καὶ ἐξοίσει βλαστὸν καὶ ποιήσει καρπὸν καὶ ἔσται εἰς κέδρον μεγάλην, καὶ ἀναπαύσεται ὑποκάτω αὐτοῦ πᾶν θηρίον, καὶ πᾶν πετεινὸν ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ ἀναπαύσεται, τὰ κλήματα αὐτοῦ ἀποκατασταθήσεται.BSBBSB: I will plant it on the mountain heights of Israel so that it will bear branches; it will yield fruit and become a majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking shelter in the shade of its branches.
24. 24LXXκαὶ γνώσονται πάντα τὰ ξύλα τοῦ πεδίου διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος ὁ ταπεινῶν ξύλον ὑψηλὸν καὶ ὑψῶν ξύλον ταπεινὸν καὶ ξηραίνων ξύλον χλωρὸν καὶ ἀναθάλλων ξύλον ξηρόν· ἐγὼ Κύριος λελάληκα καὶ ποιήσω.BSBBSB: Then all the trees of the field will know that I am the LORD. I bring the tall tree down and make the low tree tall. I dry up the green tree and make the withered tree flourish. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I have done it.’”
