Hosea 12 (LXX) · Opened

1ὁ δὲ Ἐφραὶμ πονηρὸν πνεῦμα ἐδίωξε, καύσωνα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν· κενὰ καὶ μάταια ἐπλήθυνε καὶ διαθήκην μετὰ Ἀσσυρίων διέθετο, καὶ ἔλαιον εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἐνεπορεύετο.Ephraim feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind all day long; he multiplies lies and violence; he makes a covenant with Assyria and sends olive oil to Egypt.

2καὶ κρίσις τῷ Κυρίῳ πρὸς Ἰούδαν τοῦ ἐκδικῆσαι τὸν Ἰακώβ· κατὰ τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ κατὰ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματα αὐτοῦ ἀποδώσει αὐτῷ.The LORD has a charge to bring against Judah. He will punish Jacob according to his ways and repay him according to his deeds.

3ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ ἐπτέρνισε τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν κόποις αὐτοῦ ἐνίσχυσε πρὸς ΘεὸνIn the womb he grasped his brother’s heel, and in his vigor he wrestled with God.

4καὶ ἐνίσχυσε μετὰ ἀγγέλου, καὶ ἠδυνάσθη. ἔκλαυσαν καὶ ἐδεήθησάν μου, ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Ὦν εὕροσάν με, καὶ ἐκεῖ ἐλαλήθη πρὸς αὐτούς.Yes, he struggled with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor; he found Him at Bethel and spoke with Him there—

5ὁ δὲ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ὁ παντοκράτωρ ἔσται μνημόσυνον αὐτοῦ.the LORD God of Hosts, the LORD is His name of renown.

6καὶ σὺ ἐν Θεῷ σου ἐπιστρέψεις· ἔλεον καὶ κρίμα φυλάσσου καὶ ἔγγιζε πρὸς τὸν Θεόν σου διαπαντός.But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and always wait on your God.

7Χαναὰν ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ζυγὸς ἀδικίας, καταδυναστεύειν ἠγάπησε.A merchant loves to defraud with dishonest scales in his hands.

8καὶ εἶπε Ἐφραίμ· πλὴν πεπλούτηκα, εὕρηκα ἀναψυχὴν ἐμαυτῷ. πάντες οἱ πόνοι αὐτοῦ οὐχ εὑρεθήσονται αὐτῷ, δι᾿ ἀδικίας ἃς ἥμαρτεν.And Ephraim boasts: “How rich I have become! I have found wealth for myself. In all my labors, they can find in me no iniquity that is sinful.”

9ἐγὼ δὲ Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου ἀνήγαγόν σε ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, ἔτι κατοικιῶ σε ἐν σκηναῖς καθὼς ἡμέρᾳ ἑορτῆς.But I am the LORD your God ever since the land of Egypt. I will again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.

10καὶ λαλήσω πρὸς προφήτας, καὶ ἐγὼ ὁράσεις ἐπλήθυνα καὶ ἐν χερσὶ προφητῶν ὡμοιώθην.I spoke through the prophets and multiplied their visions; I gave parables through the prophets.

11εἰ μὴ Γαλαὰδ ἐστιν, ἄρα ψευδεῖς ἦσαν ἐν Γαλγὰλ ἄρχοντες θυσιάζοντες, καὶ τὰ θυσιαστήρια αὐτῶν ὡς χελῶναι ἐπὶ χέρσον ἀγροῦ.Is there iniquity in Gilead? They will surely come to nothing. Do they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal? Indeed, their altars will be heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.

12καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν Ἰακὼβ εἰς πεδίον Συρίας, καὶ ἐδούλευσεν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν γυναικὶ καὶ ἐν γυναικὶ ἐφυλάξατο.Jacob fled to the land of Aram and Israel worked for a wife—for a wife he tended sheep.

13καὶ ἐν προφήτῃ ἀνήγαγε Κύριος τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἐν προφήτῃ διεφυλάχθη.But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

14ἐθύμωσεν Ἐφραὶμ καὶ παρώργισε, καὶ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν ἐκχυθήσεται, καὶ τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν αὐτοῦ ἀνταποδώσει αὐτῷ Κύριος.Ephraim has provoked bitter anger, so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt upon him and repay him for his contempt.
