2 STV αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἀκριβῶς οἴδατε ὅτι ἡ ἡμέρα κυρίου ὡς κλέπτης ἐν νυκτὶ οὕτως ἔρχεται BSB BSB: For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 STV ὅταν γὰρ λέγωσιν Εἰρήνη καὶ ἀσφάλεια τότε αἰφνίδιος αὐτοῖς ἐφίσταται ὄλεθρος ὥσπερ ἡ ὠδὶν τῇ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσῃ καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκφύγωσιν BSB BSB: While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4 STV ὑμεῖς δέ ἀδελφοί οὐκ ἐστὲ ἐν σκότει ἵνα ἡ ἡμέρα ὑμᾶς ὡς κλέπτης καταλάβῃ· BSB BSB: But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.
5 STV πάντες ὑμεῖς υἱοὶ φωτός ἐστε καὶ υἱοὶ ἡμέρας οὐκ ἐσμὲν νυκτὸς οὐδὲ σκότους· BSB BSB: For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
6 STV ἄρα οὖν μὴ καθεύδωμεν ὡς καὶ οἱ λοιποί ἀλλὰ γρηγορῶμεν καὶ νήφωμεν BSB BSB: So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.
7 STV οἱ γὰρ καθεύδοντες νυκτὸς καθεύδουσιν καὶ οἱ μεθυσκόμενοι νυκτὸς μεθύουσιν· BSB BSB: For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
8 STV ἡμεῖς δὲ ἡμέρας ὄντες νήφωμεν ἐνδυσάμενοι θώρακα πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης καὶ περικεφαλαίαν ἐλπίδα σωτηρίας· BSB BSB: But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.
9 STV ὅτι οὐκ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ὁ θεὸς εἰς ὀργὴν ἀλλ’ εἰς περιποίησιν σωτηρίας διὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ BSB BSB: For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10 STV τοῦ ἀποθανόντος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἵνα εἴτε γρηγορῶμεν εἴτε καθεύδωμεν ἅμα σὺν αὐτῷ ζήσωμεν BSB BSB: He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.
11 STV Διὸ παρακαλεῖτε ἀλλήλους καὶ οἰκοδομεῖτε εἷς τὸν ἕνα καθὼς καὶ ποιεῖτε BSB BSB: Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.
12 STV Ἐρωτῶμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί εἰδέναι τοὺς κοπιῶντας ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ προϊσταμένους ὑμῶν ἐν κυρίῳ καὶ νουθετοῦντας ὑμᾶς BSB BSB: But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
13 STV καὶ ἡγεῖσθαι αὐτοὺς ὑπερ ἐκπερισσοῦ ἐν ἀγάπῃ διὰ τὸ ἔργον αὐτῶν εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς BSB BSB: In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
14 STV παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί νουθετεῖτε τοὺς ἀτάκτους παραμυθεῖσθε τοὺς ὀλιγοψύχους ἀντέχεσθε τῶν ἀσθενῶν μακροθυμεῖτε πρὸς πάντας BSB BSB: And we urge you, brothers, to admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.
15 STV ὁρᾶτε μή τις κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ τινι ἀποδῷ ἀλλὰ πάντοτε τὸ ἀγαθὸν διώκετε καὶ εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας BSB BSB: Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.
16 STV Πάντοτε χαίρετε BSB BSB: Rejoice at all times.
17 STV ἀδιαλείπτως προσεύχεσθε BSB BSB: Pray without ceasing.
18 STV ἐν παντὶ εὐχαριστεῖτε· τοῦτο γὰρ θέλημα θεοῦ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς ὑμᾶς BSB BSB: Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 STV τὸ πνεῦμα μὴ σβέννυτε BSB BSB: Do not extinguish the Spirit.
20 STV προφητείας μὴ ἐξουθενεῖτε BSB BSB: Do not treat prophecies with contempt,
22 STV ἀπὸ παντὸς εἴδους πονηροῦ ἀπέχεσθε BSB BSB: Abstain from every form of evil.
23 STV Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς τῆς εἰρήνης ἁγιάσαι ὑμᾶς ὁλοτελεῖς καὶ ὁλόκληρον ὑμῶν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ καὶ τὸ σῶμα ἀμέμπτως ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τηρηθείη BSB BSB: Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 STV πιστὸς ὁ καλῶν ὑμᾶς ὃς καὶ ποιήσει BSB BSB: The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.
25 STV Ἀδελφοί προσεύχεσθε περὶ ἡμῶν BSB BSB: Brothers, pray for us as well.
26 STV Ἀσπάσασθε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς πάντας ἐν φιλήματι ἁγίῳ BSB BSB: Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 STV ὀρκίζω ὑμᾶς τὸν κύριον ἀναγνωσθῆναι τὴν ἐπιστολὴν πᾶσιν τοῖς ἁγίοις ἀδελφοῖς BSB BSB: I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
28 STV Ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἀμήν πρός Θεσσαλονικείς πρώτη ἐγράφη ἀπό Ἀθηνῶν BSB BSB: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
