1 STV Παρακαλῶ οὖν πρῶτον πάντων ποιεῖσθαι δεήσεις προσευχάς ἐντεύξεις εὐχαριστίας ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων BSB BSB: First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—
2 STV ὑπὲρ βασιλέων καὶ πάντων τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ ὄντων ἵνα ἤρεμον καὶ ἡσύχιον βίον διάγωμεν ἐν πάσῃ εὐσεβείᾳ καὶ σεμνότητι BSB BSB: for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.
4 STV ὃς πάντας ἀνθρώπους θέλει σωθῆναι καὶ εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν BSB BSB: who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
6 STV ὁ δοὺς ἑαυτὸν ἀντίλυτρον ὑπὲρ πάντων τὸ μαρτύριον καιροῖς ἰδίοις BSB BSB: who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
7 STV εἰς ὃ ἐτέθην ἐγὼ κῆρυξ καὶ ἀπόστολος ἀλήθειαν λέγω ἐν Χριστῷ, οὐ ψεύδομαι διδάσκαλος ἐθνῶν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀληθείᾳ BSB BSB: For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.
8 STV Βούλομαι οὖν προσεύχεσθαι τοὺς ἄνδρας ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ἐπαίροντας ὁσίους χεῖρας χωρὶς ὀργῆς καὶ διαλογισμοῦ BSB BSB: Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.
9 STV ὡσαύτως καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας ἐν καταστολῇ κοσμίῳ μετὰ αἰδοῦς καὶ σωφροσύνης κοσμεῖν ἑαυτάς μὴ ἐν πλέγμασιν ἢ χρυσῴ, ἢ μαργαρίταις ἢ ἱματισμῷ πολυτελεῖ BSB BSB: Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
10 STV ἀλλ’ ὃ πρέπει γυναιξὶν ἐπαγγελλομέναις θεοσέβειαν δι’ ἔργων ἀγαθῶν BSB BSB: but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.
12 STV γυναικὶ δὲ διδάσκειν οὐκ ἐπιτρέπω οὐδὲ αὐθεντεῖν ἀνδρός ἀλλ’ εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ BSB BSB: I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.
13 STV Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη εἶτα Εὕα BSB BSB: For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.
14 STV καὶ Ἀδὰμ οὐκ ἠπατήθη ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἀπατηθεῖσα ἐν παραβάσει γέγονεν· BSB BSB: And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
15 STV σωθήσεται δὲ διὰ τῆς τεκνογονίας ἐὰν μείνωσιν ἐν πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγιασμῷ μετὰ σωφροσύνης· BSB BSB: Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
