STV Ἦσαν δὲ ἐγγίζοντες αὐτῷ πάντες οἱ τελῶναι καὶ οἱ ἁμαρτωλοὶ ἀκούειν αὐτοῦ BSB BSB: Now all the tax collectors and sinners were gathering around to listen to Jesus.
STV καὶ διεγόγγυζον οἵ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ἁμαρτωλοὺς προσδέχεται καὶ συνεσθίει αὐτοῖς BSB BSB: So the Pharisees and scribes began to grumble: “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
STV εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην λέγων BSB BSB: Then Jesus told them this parable:
STV Τίς ἄνθρωπος ἐξ ὑμῶν ἔχων ἑκατὸν πρόβατα καὶ ἀπολέσας ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν οὐ καταλείπει τὰ ἐννενήκονταεννέα ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ πορεύεται ἐπὶ τὸ ἀπολωλὸς ἕως εὕρῃ αὐτό BSB BSB: “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the pasture and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
STV καὶ εὑρὼν ἐπιτίθησιν ἐπὶ τοὺς ὤμους ἑαυτοῦ χαίρων BSB BSB: And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders,
STV καὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὸν οἶκον συγκαλεῖ τοὺς φίλους καὶ τοὺς γείτονας λέγων αὐτοῖς, Συγχάρητέ μοι ὅτι εὗρον τὸ πρόβατόν μου τὸ ἀπολωλός BSB BSB: comes home, and calls together his friends and neighbors to tell them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep!’
STV λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὕτως χαρὰ ἔσται ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ἐπὶ ἑνὶ ἁμαρτωλῷ μετανοοῦντι ἢ ἐπὶ ἐννενήκονταεννέα δικαίοις οἵτινες οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν μετανοίας BSB BSB: I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who do not need to repent.
STV Ἢ τίς γυνὴ δραχμὰς ἔχουσα δέκα ἐὰν ἀπολέσῃ δραχμὴν μίαν οὐχὶ ἅπτει λύχνον καὶ σαροῖ τὴν οἰκίαν καὶ ζητεῖ ἐπιμελῶς ἕως ὅτου εὕρῃ BSB BSB: Or what woman who has ten silver coins and loses one of them does not light a lamp, sweep her house, and search carefully until she finds it?
STV καὶ εὑροῦσα συγκαλεῖται τὰς φίλας καὶ τὰς γείτονας λέγουσα Συγχάρητέ μοι ὅτι εὗρον τὴν δραχμὴν ἣν ἀπώλεσα BSB BSB: And when she finds it, she calls together her friends and neighbors to say, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost coin.’
STV οὕτως λέγω ὑμῖν χαρὰ γίνεται ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀγγέλων τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ ἑνὶ ἁμαρτωλῷ μετανοοῦντι BSB BSB: In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”
STV καὶ εἶπεν ὁ νεώτερος αὐτῶν τῷ πατρί Πάτερ δός μοι τὸ ἐπιβάλλον μέρος τῆς οὐσίας καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτοῖς τὸν βίον BSB BSB: The younger son said to him, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
STV καὶ μετ’ οὐ πολλὰς ἡμέρας συναγαγὼν ἅπαντα ὁ νεώτερος υἱὸς ἀπεδήμησεν εἰς χώραν μακράν καὶ ἐκεῖ διεσκόρπισεν τὴν οὐσίαν αὐτοῦ ζῶν ἀσώτως BSB BSB: After a few days, the younger son got everything together and journeyed to a distant country, where he squandered his wealth in wild living.
STV δαπανήσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ πάντα ἐγένετο λιμὸς ἰσχυρὸς κατὰ τὴν χώραν ἐκείνην καὶ αὐτὸς ἤρξατο ὑστερεῖσθαι BSB BSB: After he had spent all he had, a severe famine swept through that country, and he began to be in need.
STV καὶ πορευθεὶς ἐκολλήθη ἑνὶ τῶν πολιτῶν τῆς χώρας ἐκείνης καὶ ἔπεμψεν αὐτὸν εἰς τοὺς ἀγροὺς αὐτοῦ βόσκειν χοίρους BSB BSB: So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed the pigs.
STV καὶ ἐπεθύμει γεμίσαι τὴν κοιλίαν αὑτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν κερατίων ὧν ἤσθιον οἱ χοῖροι καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδίδου αὐτῷ BSB BSB: He longed to fill his belly with the pods the pigs were eating, but no one would give him a thing.
STV εἰς ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἐλθὼν εἶπεν Πόσοι μίσθιοι τοῦ πατρός μου περισσεύουσιν ἄρτων ἐγὼ δὲ λιμῷ ἀπόλλυμαι BSB BSB: Finally he came to his senses and said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have plenty of food, but here I am, starving to death!
STV ἀναστὰς πορεύσομαι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα μου καὶ ἐρῶ αὐτῷ Πάτερ ἥμαρτον εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἐνώπιόν σου BSB BSB: I will get up and go back to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
STV καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμὶ ἄξιος κληθῆναι υἱός σου· ποίησόν με ὡς ἕνα τῶν μισθίων σου BSB BSB: I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’
STV καὶ ἀναστὰς ἦλθεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα ἑαυτοῦ ἔτι δὲ αὐτοῦ μακρὰν ἀπέχοντος εἶδεν αὐτὸν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐσπλαγχνίσθη καὶ δραμὼν ἐπέπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν BSB BSB: So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still in the distance, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.
STV εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ υἱὸς Πάτερ ἥμαρτον εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμὶ ἄξιος κληθῆναι υἱός σου BSB BSB: The son declared, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
STV εἶπεν δὲ ὁ πατὴρ πρὸς τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ἐξενέγκατε τὴν στολὴν τὴν πρώτην καὶ ἐνδύσατε αὐτόν καὶ δότε δακτύλιον εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ καὶ ὑποδήματα εἰς τοὺς πόδας BSB BSB: But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
STV καὶ ἐνέγκαντες τὸν μόσχον τὸν σιτευτόν θύσατε καὶ φαγόντες εὐφρανθῶμεν BSB BSB: Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate.
STV ὅτι οὗτος ὁ υἱός μου νεκρὸς ἦν καὶ ἀνέζησεν καὶ ἀπολωλὼς ἦν καὶ εὑρέθη καὶ ἤρξαντο εὐφραίνεσθαι BSB BSB: For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
STV Ἦν δὲ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ὁ πρεσβύτερος ἐν ἀγρῷ· καὶ ὡς ἐρχόμενος ἤγγισεν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἤκουσεν συμφωνίας καὶ χορῶν BSB BSB: Meanwhile the older son was in the field, and as he approached the house, he heard music and dancing.
STV καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος ἕνα τῶν παίδων αὐτοῦ ἐπυνθάνετο τί εἴη ταῦτα BSB BSB: So he called one of the servants and asked what was going on.
STV ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἥκει καὶ ἔθυσεν ὁ πατήρ σου τὸν μόσχον τὸν σιτευτόν ὅτι ὑγιαίνοντα αὐτὸν ἀπέλαβεν BSB BSB: ‘Your brother has returned,’ he said, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has him back safe and sound.’
STV ὠργίσθη δὲ καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν εἰσελθεῖν ὁ οὖν πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐξελθὼν παρεκάλει αὐτόν BSB BSB: The older son became angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
STV ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν τῷ πατρὶ Ἰδού, τοσαῦτα ἔτη δουλεύω σοι καὶ οὐδέποτε ἐντολήν σου παρῆλθον καὶ ἐμοὶ οὐδέποτε ἔδωκας ἔριφον ἵνα μετὰ τῶν φίλων μου εὐφρανθῶ· BSB BSB: But he answered his father, ‘Look, all these years I have served you and never disobeyed a commandment of yours. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.
STV ὅτε δὲ ὁ υἱός σου οὗτος ὁ καταφαγών σου τὸν βίον μετὰ πορνῶν ἦλθεν ἔθυσας αὐτῷ τὸν μόσχον τὸν σιτευτὸν BSB BSB: But when this son of yours returns from squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
STV ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τέκνον σὺ πάντοτε μετ’ ἐμοῦ εἶ καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐμὰ σά ἐστιν· BSB BSB: ‘Son, you are always with me,’ the father said, ‘and all that is mine is yours.
STV εὐφρανθῆναι δὲ καὶ χαρῆναι ἔδει ὅτι ὁ ἀδελφός σου οὗτος νεκρὸς ἦν καὶ ἀνέζησεν καὶ ἀπολωλὼς ἦν, καὶ εὑρέθη BSB BSB: But it was fitting to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
