1 ULB પછી જે રાજાઓ યર્દન નદીની પેલી પાર પશ્ચિમમાં હતા તેઓ પર્વતોમાં અને નીચાણવાળા પ્રદેશોમાં અને લબાનોન તરફ સમુદ્રતટે રહેનાર હિત્તીઓ, અમોરીઓ, કનાની, પરિઝી, હિવ્વીઓ તથા યબૂસીઓના બધા જ રાજાઓ BSB BSB: Now when news of this reached all the kings west of the Jordan—those in the hill country, the foothills, and all along the coast of the Great Sea toward Lebanon (the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites)—
2 ULB એક મતે યહોશુઆ અને ઇઝરાયલ વિરુદ્ધ લડાઈ કરવા એકત્ર થયા. BSB BSB: they came together to wage war against Joshua and Israel.
3 ULB યહોશુઆએ યરીખો અને આયના જે હાલહવાલ કર્યા હતા તે જયારે ગિબ્યોનના રહેવાસીઓએ સાંભળ્યું, BSB BSB: But the people of Gibeon, having heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
4 ULB ત્યારે તેઓએ ષડ્યંત્ર રચ્યું અને એલચીઓ જેવા તૈયાર થઈને પોતાનાં ગધેડાં પર જૂની ગૂણપાટો, દ્રાક્ષારસની જૂની, ફાટેલી અને થીંગડાં મારેલી મશકો લાદી. BSB BSB: acted deceptively and set out as envoys, carrying on their donkeys worn-out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and mended.
5 ULB તેઓએ જૂનાં અને થીંગડાં મારેલા પગરખાં પોતાનાં પગમાં પહેર્યા અને જીર્ણ થયેલાં વસ્ત્રો પહેર્યા. તેઓને ભોજનમાં પૂરું પાડવામાં આવેલી રોટલી સૂકી અને ફુગાઈ ગયેલી હતી. BSB BSB: They put worn, patched sandals on their feet and threadbare clothing on their bodies, and their whole supply of bread was dry and moldy.
6 ULB પછી તેઓ ગિલ્ગાલની છાવણીમાં યહોશુઆ પાસે ગયા અને તેને અને ઇઝરાયલના માણસોને કહ્યું, "અમે બહુ દૂર દેશથી આવ્યા છીએ, તેથી હવે અમારી સાથે સુલેહથી વર્તો." BSB BSB: They went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel, “We have come from a distant land; please make a treaty with us.”
7 ULB ઇઝરાયલના માણસોએ હિવ્વીઓને કહ્યું, "કદાચ તમે અમારા દેશમાં રહેતા હો. તો અમે કેવી રીતે તમારી સાથે સુલેહ કરીએ?" BSB BSB: But the men of Israel said to the Hivites, “Perhaps you dwell near us. How can we make a treaty with you?”
8 ULB તેઓએ યહોશુઆને કહ્યું, "અમે તમારા દાસો છીએ." યહોશુઆએ તેઓને કહ્યું, "તમે કોણ છો? તમે ક્યાંથી આવ્યા છો?" BSB BSB: “We are your servants,” they said to Joshua. Then Joshua asked them, “Who are you and where have you come from?”
9 ULB તેઓએ તેને કહ્યું, "તારા પ્રભુ યહોવાહનાં નામે, તારા દાસો ઘણે દૂર દેશથી અહીં આવ્યા છીએ. જે સર્વ તેમણે મિસરમાં કર્યું તેના વિષેનો અહેવાલ અમે સાંભળ્યો છે. BSB BSB: “Your servants have come from a very distant land,” they replied, “because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard the reports about Him: all that He did in Egypt,
10 ULB અને યર્દનની પેલે પારના અમોરીઓના બે રાજા, એટલે હેશ્બોનના રાજા સીહોનને, અને આશ્તારોથમાં રહેનાર બાશાનના રાજા ઓગને તેમણે જે સર્વ કર્યું તે પણ અમે સાંભળ્યું છે. BSB BSB: and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan—Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.
11 ULB અમારા વડીલો તથા અમારા દેશના રહેવાસીઓએ અમને કહ્યું, 'મુસાફરીમાં ખાવાને સારુ તમારા હાથમાં ભાથું લઈને જાઓ. તેઓને મળવાને જાઓ અને તેઓને કહો, "અમે તમારા સેવકો છીએ. અમારી સાથે સુલેહ કરો." BSB BSB: So the elders and inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions for your journey; go to meet them and say to them: We are your servants. Please make a treaty with us.’
12 ULB જે દિવસે અમે અહીં આવવાને નીકળ્યા ત્યારે અમે જે રોટલી અમારા ઘરેથી લીધી તે ગરમ હતી પણ અત્યારે, જુઓ, તે સુકાઈ ગઈ છે અને તેને ફૂગ ચઢી ગઈ છે. BSB BSB: This bread of ours was warm when we packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But look, it is now dry and moldy.
13 ULB દ્રાક્ષારસની મશકો જયારે અમે ભરી ત્યારે નવી હતી, જુઓ, હવે તે ફાટી ગઈ છે. ઘણી દૂરની મુસાફરીથી અમારા વસ્ત્રો અને અમારા પગરખાં ઘસાઈને જૂના થઈ ગયાં છે. BSB BSB: These wineskins were new when we filled them, but look, they are cracked. And these clothes and sandals are worn out from our very long journey.”
14 ULB ઇઝરાયલીઓએ તેઓના ખોરાકમાંથી કંઈક લીધું, પણ તેઓએ યહોવાહની સલાહ લીધી નહિ. BSB BSB: Then the men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not seek the counsel of the LORD.
15 ULB અને તેઓને જીવતા રહેવા દેવા માટે યહોશુઆએ તેઓની સાથે સલાહ કરી, તેઓની સાથે કરાર કર્યો. લોકોના સમુદાયના આગેવાનોએ તેઓની આગળ પ્રતિજ્ઞા કરી. BSB BSB: And Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.
16 ULB અને તેઓની સાથે કરાર કર્યા પછી ત્રીજે દિવસે એમ થયું કે, તેઓએ સાંભળ્યું કે તેઓ અમારા પડોશી અને અમારી મધ્યે જ રહેનારા છે. BSB BSB: Three days after they had made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites learned that they were neighbors, living among them.
17 ULB ત્યારે ઇઝરાયલના લોકો બહાર આવ્યા અને ત્રીજા દિવસે તેઓના નગરોમાં પહોંચી ગયા. તેઓનાં નગરો ગિબ્યોન, કફીરા, બેરોથ અને કિર્યાથ-યારીમ હતાં. BSB BSB: So the Israelites set out and on the third day arrived at their cities—Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.
18 ULB ઇઝરાયલના લોકોએ તેઓની ઉપર હુમલો કર્યો કે મારી નાખ્યા નહિ કેમ કે તેઓના આગેવાનોએ ઇઝરાયલના પ્રભુ, યહોવાહ આગળ તેઓ વિષે સમ લીધાં હતા. તેથી બધા ઇઝરાયલીઓએ પોતાના આગેવાનો વિરુદ્ધ કચકચ કરી. BSB BSB: But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel. And the whole congregation grumbled against the leaders.
19 ULB પણ સર્વ આગેવાનોએ લોકોના સમુદાયને કહ્યું, "ઇઝરાયલના પ્રભુ, યહોવાહનાં સમ તેઓને લક્ષમાં રાખીને લીધાં છે અને હવે અમે તેઓને આંગળી પણ અડકાડી શકીએ નહિ. BSB BSB: All the leaders answered, “We have sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.
20 ULB અમે તેઓની સાથે જે કરીશું તે આ છે આપણે તેઓના સમ લીધાં છે તેના કારણે આપણી પર આવનાર કોપથી દૂર રહેવા, આપણે તેઓને જીવતા રહેવા દઈશું." BSB BSB: This is how we will treat them: We will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we swore to them.”
21 ULB આગેવાનોએ તેમના લોકોને કહ્યું, "એક શરતે તેઓને જીવતા રહેવા દો." જેથી જેમ આગેવાનોએ તેઓના વિષે કહ્યું હતું તેમ, ગિબ્યોનીઓ ઇઝરાયલીઓ માટે લાકડાં કાપનારા અને પાણી ભરનારા થાય." BSB BSB: They continued, “Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the whole congregation.” So the leaders kept their promise.
22 ULB યહોશુઆએ તેઓને બોલાવીને કહ્યું કે, જયારે તમે અહીંયાં અમારી વચ્ચે રહો છો તેમ છતાં 'અમે તમારાથી ઘણાં દૂર છીએ' કહીને તમે અમને કેમ છેતર્યા? BSB BSB: Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?
23 ULB હવે, આ કારણથી, તમે શાપિત થયા છો અને તમારામાંના કેટલાક, જેઓ મારા યહોવાહનાં ઘર માટે લાકડાં કાપે છે અને પાણી ભરે છે તેઓ સદાને માટે ગુલામ થશે." BSB BSB: Now therefore you are under a curse and will perpetually serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.”
24 ULB તેઓએ યહોશુઆને ઉત્તર આપ્યો અને કહ્યું, "યહોવાહ, તમારા પ્રભુએ મૂસાને આજ્ઞા આપી કે તને આખો દેશ આપીશ અને તારી આગળથી સર્વ રહેવાસીઓનો નાશ કરીશ. તેથી તમારા કારણે અમારા જીવન વિષે અમે ઘણાં ભયભીત થયા હતા. તે કારણથી અમે આ કૃત્ય કર્યું. BSB BSB: The Gibeonites answered, “Your servants were told clearly that the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land and wipe out all its inhabitants before you. So we greatly feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we have done this.
25 ULB હવે, જો, તેં અમને તારા બળથી પકડયા છે. અમારી સાથે તને જે કરવાનું સારું તથા ખરું લાગે, તે કર." BSB BSB: Now we are in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you.”
26 ULB તેથી યહોશુઆએ તેમના માટે આ પ્રમાણે કર્યું: તેણે ઇઝરાયલના હાથમાંથી તેઓને છોડાવ્યાં અને ઇઝરાયલીઓએ તેઓને મારી નાખ્યા નહિ. BSB BSB: So Joshua did this and delivered them from the hands of the Israelites, and they did not kill the Gibeonites.
27 ULB તે દિવસથી આજ દિવસ સુધી, યહોશુઆએ સમુદાયને સારુ તથા જે જગ્યા યહોવાહ પસંદ કરે ત્યાં, યહોવાહની વેદીને સારુ ગિબ્યોનીઓને લાકડાં કાપનારા તથા પાણી ભરનારા તરીકે નીમ્યા. BSB BSB: On that day he made them woodcutters and water carriers, as they are to this day for the congregation of the LORD and for the altar at the place He would choose.
