1 ULB ઈશ્વરના દૂતે ગિલ્ગાલથી બોખીમ જઈને કહ્યું, "હું તમને મિસરમાંથી છોડાવીને જે દેશ તમારા પિતૃઓને આપવાને મેં પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી હતી તેમાં લાવ્યો છું. મેં કહ્યું હતું કે, 'હું કદીપણ તમારી સાથેનો મારો કરાર રદ કરીશ નહિ. BSB BSB: Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I had promised to your fathers, and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you,
2 ULB તમે આ દેશના રહેવાસીઓની સાથે કંઈ પણ સંધિ કરશો નહિ. તેઓની વેદીઓ અવશ્ય તોડી નાખીને તમે મારી વાણી ધ્યાને લીધી નથી. આ તમે શું કર્યું છે? BSB BSB: and you are not to make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall tear down their altars.’ Yet you have not obeyed My voice. What is this you have done?
3 ULB હવે હું કહું છું, 'હું કનાનીઓને તમારી સામેથી દૂર કરીશ, પણ તેઓ તમારી આજુબાજુ કાંટારૂપ અને તેઓના દેવો તમને ફાંદારૂપ થશે.'" BSB BSB: So now I tell you that I will not drive out these people before you; they will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.”
4 ULB અને ઈશ્વરના દૂતે ઇઝરાયલના સર્વ લોકોને એ વાતો કહી, ત્યારે તેઓ પોક મૂકીને રડ્યા. BSB BSB: When the angel of the LORD had spoken these words to all the Israelites, the people lifted up their voices and wept.
5 ULB અને તેઓએ તે જગ્યાનું નામ બોખીમ પાડ્યું. ત્યાં તેઓએ ઈશ્વરને અર્પણો ચઢાવ્યાં. BSB BSB: So they called that place Bochim and offered sacrifices there to the LORD.
6 ULB યહોશુઆએ લોકોને વિદાય કર્યા ત્યારે ઇઝરાયલના સર્વ લોકો પોતાને માટે નિયુક્ત કરાયેલ સ્થળે, પોતપોતાના વારસામાં ગયા. BSB BSB: After Joshua had dismissed the people, the Israelites went out to take possession of the land, each to his own inheritance.
7 ULB યહોશુઆના જીવનકાળ દરમિયાન અને ત્યારબાદ જે વડીલો તેના કરતાં લાંબુ જીવ્યા હતા, જેઓએ ઇઝરાયલને માટે ઈશ્વરે કરેલાં સર્વ મોટાં કામ જોયા હતાં, તેઓના અસ્તિત્વ સુધી લોકોએ ઈશ્વરની સેવા કરી. BSB BSB: And the people served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him, who had seen all the great works that the LORD had done for Israel.
8 ULB નૂનનો દીકરો યહોશુઆ, ઈશ્વરનો સેવક, એકસો દસ વર્ષની ઉંમરે મરણ પામ્યો. BSB BSB: And Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
9 ULB ગાઆશ પર્વતની ઉત્તરે, એફ્રાઇમના પહાડી પ્રદેશ, તિમ્નાથ-હેરેસમાં, જે ભૂમિ તેને સોંપવામાં આવી હતી તેની સરહદમાં તેઓએ તેને દફનાવ્યો. BSB BSB: They buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
10 ULB તેઓની પેઢી પણ તેમના પિતૃઓ સાથે ભળી ગઈ. પછીની બીજી પેઢી ઊભી થઈ તે ઈશ્વરને અથવા તેમણે ઇઝરાયલ માટે કરેલાં કૃત્યો હજી સુધી જાણતી નહોતી. BSB BSB: After that whole generation had also been gathered to their fathers, another generation rose up who did not know the LORD or the works that He had done for Israel.
11 ULB ઇઝરાયલી લોકોએ યહોવાહની દ્રષ્ટિમાં જે દુષ્ટ હતું તે કર્યું અને તેઓએ બઆલીમની પૂજા કરી. BSB BSB: And the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals.
12 ULB અને તેઓના પિતૃઓના જે યહોવાહ તેઓને મિસર દેશમાંથી બહાર લાવ્યા હતા, તેમની સાથેનો સંબંધ તોડી નાખ્યો. તેઓ જે લોકો તેઓની આસપાસ હતા તેઓના દેવો પાછળ ગયા. જઈને તેઓ આગળ નમ્યાં. તેઓએ યહોવાહને ક્રોધિત થવાને ઉશ્કેર્યા. BSB BSB: Thus they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they followed after various gods of the peoples around them. They bowed down to them and provoked the LORD to anger,
13 ULB તેમણે યહોવાહની સાથેનો સંબંધ તોડી નાખીને બઆલ તથા દેવી આશ્તારોથની પૂજા કરી. BSB BSB: for they forsook Him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.
14 ULB ત્યારે યહોવાહનો ક્રોધ ઇઝરાયલ વિરુદ્ધ સળગી ઊઠ્યો અને તેમણે તેઓને પાયમાલ કરનારાઓનાં હાથમાં સોંપ્યાં, તેઓએ પાયમાલ કરીને તેઓની સંપત્તિ લૂંટી લીધી. ઈશ્વરે તેઓ આસપાસના દુશ્મનો અધિકારમાં બંધાઈ રહે તેવી રીતે તેમને, વેચી દીધા, તેથી તેઓ તેમના દુશ્મનો સમક્ષ પોતાને ટકાવી શક્યા નહિ. BSB BSB: Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of those who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
15 ULB ઇઝરાયલીઓ જ્યાં કંઈ લડાઈ માટે ગયા, જેમ તેમણે સમ લીધા હતા તેમ, ત્યાં તેઓને હરાવવા માટે યહોવાહનો હાથ તેઓની વિરુદ્ધમાં હતો અને તેઓ ભયંકર સંકટમાં આવી પડ્યાં હતા. BSB BSB: Wherever Israel marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them to bring calamity, just as He had sworn to them. So they were greatly distressed.
16 ULB ત્યારે યહોવાહે ન્યાયાધીશો નીમ્યા, તેઓએ તેઓને તેમને લૂંટી જનારાઓના હાથમાંથી બચાવ્યા. BSB BSB: Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them.
17 ULB તોપણ તેઓ ન્યાયાધીશોનું સાંભળતાં નહોતા, તેઓ યહોવાહને અવિશ્વાસુ હતા. પોતાને અન્ય દેવોની સાથે વ્યભિચાર કરી તેઓની પૂજા કરતા હતા. તેઓના પિતૃઓ યહોવાહની આજ્ઞાઓનું પાલન કરનારા તેઓના પિતૃઓની જેમ તેઓ વર્ત્યા નહિ. તેઓ જલ્દીથી ખરા માર્ગથી ભટકી ગયા. BSB BSB: Israel, however, did not listen to their judges. Instead, they prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them. They quickly turned from the way of their fathers, who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments; they did not do as their fathers had done.
18 ULB જયારે યહોવાહે તેઓને માટે ન્યાયાધીશો નીમ્યા હતા, ત્યારે ઈશ્વર એ ન્યાયાધીશોને મદદ કરતા અને તેઓના જીવતાં સુધી શત્રુઓના હાથમાંથી લોકોને છોડાવતા હતા. કેમ કે જુલમગારો તથા સતાવનારાઓના ત્રાસથી તેઓ નિસાસા નાખતા હોવાથી ઈશ્વરને તેઓ પર દયા આવી હતી. BSB BSB: Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for the Israelites, He was with that judge and saved them from the hands of their enemies while the judge was still alive; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning under those who oppressed them and afflicted them.
19 ULB પણ જ્યારે ન્યાયાધીશ મરણ પામતો ત્યારે તેઓ પાછા ફરી તેમના પિતૃઓએ કરેલાં કૃત્યો કરતાં વધુ ખરાબ કૃત્યો કરતા હતા. તેઓ અન્ય દેવોની ભક્તિ તથા પૂજા કરવાને તેઓની પાછળ જતા હતા. અને પોતાના દુરાચારો તથા અવળા માર્ગોથી પાછા વળતા ન હતા. BSB BSB: But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
20 ULB તેથી ઈશ્વરનો ક્રોધ ઇઝરાયલ વિરુદ્ધ સળગી ઊઠ્યો; તેમણે કહ્યું, "આ પ્રજાના પિતૃઓની સાથે જે કરાર મેં કર્યો હતો તેનું તેઓએ ઉલ્લંઘન કર્યું છે. અને મારી વાણી સાંભળી નથી, BSB BSB: So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed the covenant I laid down for their fathers and has not heeded My voice,
21 ULB માટે યહોશુઆએ મરણના સમયે જે લોકોને રહેવા દીધા હતા, તેઓમાંના કોઈને પણ, હું હવે પછી, તેઓની આગળથી હાંકી કાઢીશ નહિ. BSB BSB: I will no longer drive out before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died.
22 ULB જેમ તેઓના પિતૃઓ ઈશ્વરના માર્ગમાં ચાલ્યા હતા, તેમ ઇઝરાયલ ચાલશે કે કેમ તેની તેઓ વડે હું પરીક્ષા કરું." BSB BSB: In this way I will test whether Israel will keep the way of the LORD by walking in it as their fathers did.”
23 ULB તે માટે ઈશ્વરે તે દેશજાતિઓને ઉતાવળે કાઢી ન મૂકતાં રહેવા દીધી અને ઈશ્વરે યહોશુઆના હાથમાં તેઓને સોંપી નહિ. BSB BSB: That is why the LORD had left those nations in place and had not driven them out immediately by delivering them into the hand of Joshua.
