1. 1HMBולפני חג הפסח כשידע ישוע כי באה שעתו לעבר מן העולם הזה אל אביו כאשר אהב את בחיריו אשר בעולם כן אהבם עד הקץ׃BSBBSB: It was now just before the Passover Feast, and Jesus knew that His hour had come to leave this world and return to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the very end.
2. 2HMBויהי אחרי החל הסעודה והשטן נתן בלב יהודה בן שמעון איש קריות למסרו׃BSBBSB: The evening meal was underway, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
3. 3HMBוידע ישוע כי נתן אביו את הכל בידו וכי מאלהים בא ואל אלהים ישוב׃BSBBSB: Jesus knew that the Father had delivered all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.
4. 4HMBויקם מעל השלחן ויפשט את בגדיו ויקח מטפחת ויחגרה׃BSBBSB: So He got up from the supper, laid aside His outer garments, and wrapped a towel around His waist.
5. 5HMBואחר יצק מים בכיור ויחל לרחץ את רגלי תלמידיו ולנגב במטפחת אשר הוא חגור בה׃BSBBSB: After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel that was around Him.
6. 6HMBויקרב אל שמעון פטרוס והוא אמר אליו אדני האתה תרחץ את רגלי׃BSBBSB: He came to Simon Peter, who asked Him, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?”
7. 7HMBויען ישוע ויאמר אליו את אשר אני עשה אינך ידע כעת ואחרי כן תדע׃BSBBSB: Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
8. 8HMBויאמר אליו פטרוס לעולם לא תרחץ את רגלי ויען ישוע אם לא ארחץ אתך אין לך חלק עמי׃BSBBSB: “Never shall You wash my feet!” Peter told Him. Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9. 9HMBויאמר אליו שמעון פטרוס אדני לא לבד את רגלי כי אם גם את ידי ואת ראשי׃BSBBSB: “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not only my feet, but my hands and my head as well!”
10. 10HMBויאמר אליו ישוע המרחץ אין לו לרחץ עוד כי אם את הרגלים כי כלו טהור הוא ואתם טהורים אך לא כלכם׃BSBBSB: Jesus told him, “Whoever has already bathed needs only to wash his feet, and he will be completely clean. And you are clean, though not all of you.”
11. 11HMBכי ידע מי ימסרהו על כן אמר לא כלכם טהורים׃BSBBSB: For He knew who would betray Him. That is why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12. 12HMBויהי אחרי אשר רחץ את רגלים וילבש את בגדיו וישב להסב ויאמר אליהם הידעתם מה הדבר אשר עשיתי לכם׃BSBBSB: When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His outer garments, He reclined with them again and asked, “Do you know what I have done for you?
13. 13HMBאתם קראים לי רב ואדון והיטבתם אשר דברתם כי אני הוא׃BSBBSB: You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, because I am.
14. 14HMBלכן אם אני המורה והאדון רחצתי את רגליכם גם אתם חיבים לרחץ איש את רגלי אחיו׃BSBBSB: So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
15. 15HMBכי מופת נתתי לכם למען תעשו גם אתם כאשר עשיתי לכם׃BSBBSB: I have set you an example so that you should do as I have done for you.
16. 16HMBאמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי העבד איננו גדול מאדניו והשלוח איננו גדול משלחו׃BSBBSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17. 17HMBאם ידעתם זאת אשריכם אם כן תעשו׃BSBBSB: If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
18. 18HMBלא על כלכם דברתי יודע אני את אשר בחרתי בהם אך למען ימלא הכתוב אוכל לחמי הגדיל עלי עקב׃BSBBSB: I am not speaking about all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the Scripture: ‘The one who shares My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’
19. 19HMBמעתה אני אמר לכם בטרם היותה למען בבואה תאמינו כי אני הוא׃BSBBSB: I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it comes to pass, you will believe that I am He.
20. 20HMBאמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי כל המקבל את אשר אשלחהו אתי הוא מקבל והמקבל אתי הוא מקבל את שלחי׃BSBBSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever receives the one I send receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.”
21. 21HMBויהי ככלות ישוע לדבר הדברים האלה ויבהל ברוחו ויעד ויאמר אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי אחד מכם ימסרני׃BSBBSB: After Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit and testified, “Truly, truly, I tell you, one of you will betray Me.”
22. 22HMBויתראו תלמידיו ויתמהו איש אל רעהו לדעת על מי דבר׃BSBBSB: The disciples looked at one another, perplexed as to which of them He meant.
23. 23HMBואחד מתלמידיו מסב על חיק ישוע אשר ישוע אהבו׃BSBBSB: One of His disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at His side.
24. 24HMBוירמז לו שמעון פטרוס לדרש מי הוא זה אשר דבר עליו׃BSBBSB: So Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus which one He was talking about.
25. 25HMBויפל על לב ישוע ויאמר אליו אדני מי הוא׃BSBBSB: Leaning back against Jesus, he asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26. 26HMBויען ישוע הנה זה הוא אשר אטבל פתי לתתו לו ויטבל את פתו ויתן אל יהודה בן שמעון איש קריות׃BSBBSB: Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I give this morsel after I have dipped it.” Then He dipped the morsel and gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.
27. 27HMBואחרי בלעו בא השטן אל קרבו ויאמר אליו ישוע את אשר תעשה עשה מהרה׃BSBBSB: And when Judas had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to Judas, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”
28. 28HMBומן המסבים לא ידע איש על מה דבר אליו כזאת׃BSBBSB: But no one at the table knew why Jesus had said this to him.
29. 29HMBכי יש אשר חשבו כי אמר אליו ישוע קנה לנו צרכי החג או לתת לאביונים יען אשר כיס הכסף תחת יד יהודה׃BSBBSB: Since Judas kept the money bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast, or to give something to the poor.
30. 30HMBוהוא בקחתו את פת הלחם מהר לצאת החוצה ויהי לילה׃BSBBSB: As soon as he had received the morsel, Judas went out into the night.
31. 31HMBהוא יצא וישוע אמר עתה נתפאר בן האדם והאלהים נתפאר בו׃BSBBSB: When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
32. 32HMBאם האלהים נתפאר בו גם האלהים הוא יפארהו בעצמו ובמהרה יפארהו׃BSBBSB: If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify the Son in Himself—and will glorify Him at once.
33. 33HMBבני עוד מעט מזער אהיה עמכם אתם תבקשוני וכאשר אמרתי אל היהודים כי אל אשר אני הולך לא תוכלו לבוא שמה כן אליכם אמר אני עתה׃BSBBSB: Little children, I am with you only a little while longer. You will look for Me, and as I said to the Jews, so now I say to you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
34. 34HMBמצוה חדשה אני נתן לכם כי תאהבו איש את אחיו כאשר אהבתי אתכם כן גם אתם איש את אחיו תאהבון׃BSBBSB: A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another.
35. 35HMBבזאת ידעו כלם כי תלמידי אתם בהיות אהבה ביניכם׃BSBBSB: By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
36. 36HMBויאמר אליו פטרוס אדני אנה תלך ויען אתו ישוע אל אשר אני הולך שמה לא תוכל עתה ללכת אחרי אך אחרי כן תלך אחרי׃BSBBSB: “Lord, where are You going?” Simon Peter asked. Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.”
37. 37HMBויאמר אליו פטרוס מדוע לא אוכל עתה ללכת אחריך הן נפשי בעד נפשך אתן׃BSBBSB: “Lord,” said Peter, “why can’t I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.”
38. 38HMBויען אתו ישוע הכי תתן נפשך בעד נפשי אמן אמן אני אמר לך בטרם יקרא התרנגל תכחש בי שלש פעמים׃BSBBSB: “Will you lay down your life for Me?” Jesus replied. “Truly, truly, I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.
