17दाऊद उनसे मिलने के लिए गुफा से बाहर गया और उनसे कहा,“यदि तुम मेरी सहायता करने के लिए शान्ति से आए हो, तो मैं तुम्हें अपने साथ लेने के लिए उत्सुक हूँ। परन्तु यदि तुम मुझे मेरे शत्रुओं को पकड़वाने के लिए आए हो जबकि मैंने तुम्हें कोई हानि नहीं पहुँचाई है, मुझे आशा है कि जिन परमेश्वर की हमारे पूर्वजों ने आराधना की है वह इसे देखें और तुम्हें दोषी ठहराएँ।And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”

We are with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers, for your God helps you.” So David received them and made them leaders of his troops.

(They did not help the Philistines because the Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, “It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)

26लेवी के गोत्र से 4, 600 पुरुष थे।From Levi: 4,600,

Indeed, there was joy in Israel.
