11 IEV परन्तु हमें अपने अगुओं के नाम बताने की अपेक्षा, उन्होंने जो कहा वह यह है,‘हम उस परमेश्वर की सेवा करते हैं जिन्होंने स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी बनाई है। कई वर्ष पहले इस्राएल के एक महान राजा ने हमारे पूर्वजों को बताया था यहाँ परमेश्वर के भवन का निर्माण करो और अब हम इसे पुनर्निर्माण कर रहे हैं। BSB BSB: And this is the answer they returned: “We are servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and completed.

16 IEV तो शेशबस्सर ने ऐसा ही किया। वह यरूशलेम में आया और उन लोगों की देख- रेख की जिन्होंने परमेश्वर के भवन की नींव रखी। उस समय से ले कर लोग परमेश्वर के भवन पर कार्य कर रहे हैं, परन्तु वह अभी तक समाप्त नहीं हुआ।’ BSB BSB: So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been under construction, but it has not yet been completed.”
17 IEV इसलिए, महामहिम, कृपया किसी को बाबेल में उस जगह की खोज करने का आदेश दें जहाँ महत्वपूर्ण लेखपत्रों को रखा गया है, कि यह पता लग सके कि क्या यह सच है कि राजा कुस्रू ने यह आज्ञा दी थी कि परमेश्वर के भवन का पुनर्निर्माण यरूशलेम में किया जाना चाहिए। फिर तुम हमें बताओ कि इस मामले में हमें क्या करना चाहिए।” BSB BSB: Now, therefore, if it pleases the king, let a search be made of the royal archives in Babylon to see if King Cyrus did indeed issue a decree to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem.
