17 IEV इश्माएल एक सौ सैंतीस वर्ष जीवित रहा और मरने के बाद अपने पूर्वजों में सम्मिलित हो गया जो पहले मरे थे। BSB BSB: Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. Then he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.

20 IEV जब इसहाक चालीस वर्ष का था तब उसने बतूएल की पुत्री रिबका से विवाह किया। बतूएल पद्दनराम के अराम का वंशज था। रिबका लाबान की बहन थी, जो अरामियों से सम्बन्धित था। BSB BSB: and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.
21 IEV विवाह के बाद लम्बे समय तक रिबका के पास कोई संतान नहीं थी। इसहाक ने अपनी पत्नी के लिए यहोवा से प्रार्थना की, और यहोवा ने उसकी प्रार्थना का उत्तर दिया। इसहाक की पत्नी रिबका गर्भवती हुई। BSB BSB: Later, Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD heard his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.
22 IEV उसके गर्भ में दो संतान थे और वे एक- दूसरे के साथ आपस में धक्का- मुक्की करते रहते थे। उसने यहोवा से पूछा,“मेरे साथ ऐसा क्यों हो रहा है?” BSB BSB: But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So Rebekah went to inquire of the LORD,
23 IEV यहोवा ने उससे कहा,“तेरे जुड़वा बच्चों से दो जातियाँ उत्पन्न होंगी और वे एक दूसरे से अलग हो जाएँगी। उनमें से एक दूसरे से अधिक शक्तिशाली होगी परन्तु बड़ा छोटे की सेवा करेगा।” BSB BSB: and He declared to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”
24 IEV जब रिबका ने जन्म दिया, तो सच में जुड़वा लड़के पैदा हुए! BSB BSB: When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb.
25 IEV पहला बच्चा लाल हुआ। उसकी त्वचा रोंएदार पोशाक के समान थी। इसलिए उसका नाम एसाव पड़ा। BSB BSB: The first one came out red, covered with hair like a fur coat; so they named him Esau.
26 IEV जब दूसरा बच्चा पैदा हुआ, वह एसाव की एड़ी को मजबूती से पकड़े था। इसलिए उस संतान का नाम याकूब पड़ा। इसहाक की उम्र उस समय साठ वर्ष की थी। जब याकूब और एसाव पैदा हुए। BSB BSB: After this, his brother came out grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when the twins were born.
27 IEV लड़के बड़े हुए। एसाव जंगली पशुओं का कुशल शिकारी बन गया। वह मैदानों में बहुत समय बिताता था। किन्तु याकूब शान्त व्यक्ति था वह अधिकांश समय अपने तम्बू के पास में रहता था। BSB BSB: When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.
28 IEV इसहाक एसाव को अधिक पसन्द करता था क्योंकि एसाव इसहाक को शिकार का माँस खिलाता था। परन्तु रिबका को याकूब अधिक पसन्द था। BSB BSB: Because Isaac had a taste for wild game, he loved Esau; but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 IEV एक दिन जब याकूब दाल पका रहा था तब एसाव भूखा मैदान से घर आया। BSB BSB: One day, while Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the field and was famished.
30 IEV उसने याकूब से कहा,“मुझे वह लाल दाल खाने के लिए दो क्योंकि मैं भूखा हूँ!”(यही कारण है कि एसाव का दूसरा नाम एदोम था।) BSB BSB: He said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am famished.” (That is why he was also called Edom.)
31 IEV याकूब ने कहा,“मैं तुझे दाल तो दूँगा परन्तु तू मुझे पहिलौठे पुत्र होने का अपना अधिकार मुझे बेच दे कि पिता की अधिकांश सम्पत्ति का मैं उत्तराधिकारी बन सकूँ।” BSB BSB: “First sell me your birthright,” Jacob replied.
32 IEV एसाव ने उत्तर दिया,“ठीक है, मैं भूख से मरने वाला हूँ। यदि मैं अब मर जाऊँ तो मेरा अधिकार मेरी सहायता नहीं करेगा।” BSB BSB: “Look,” said Esau, “I am about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?”
33 IEV याकूब ने कहा,“तू शपथ खा कि तू मुझे पहिलौठे पुत्र होने का अधिकार दे रहा है।” तो एसाव ने यही किया। उसने याकूब को अपना पहिलौठे पुत्र होने का अधिकार बेच दिया। BSB BSB: “Swear to me first,” Jacob said. So Esau swore to Jacob and sold him the birthright.
34 IEV तब याकूब ने एसाव को कुछ रोटी और दाल दी। एसाव ने खाया, पिया और उठ कर चला गया। ऐसा करने के द्वारा, एसाव ने दिखाया कि वह पहलौठे पुत्र होने के अपने अधिकार में रूचि नहीं रखता। BSB BSB: Then Jacob gave some bread and lentil stew to Esau, who ate and drank and then got up and went away. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
