1 IEV इस बीच इश्माएलवंशी यूसुफ को ले कर मिस्र पहुँचे। वहाँ पोतीपर ने यूसुफ को उनसे मोल ले लिया। पोतीपर एक मिस्री था जो राजा का अधिकारी था। वह राजा के महल के सुरक्षाकर्मियों का प्रधान था। BSB BSB: Meanwhile, Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, where an Egyptian named Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
2 IEV यहोवा यूसुफ के साथ थे इसलिए वह अपना कार्य बहुत अच्छी तरह कर सका। वह अपने मिस्री स्वामी के घर में सेवा कार्य करता था। BSB BSB: And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master.
3 IEV उसके स्वामी ने देखा कि यहोवा यूसुफ की सहायता कर रहे थे जो कुछ यूसुफ करता है, उसमें उसे सफल बनाने में सहायक थे। BSB BSB: When his master saw that the LORD was with him and made him prosper in all he did,
4 IEV यूसुफ का स्वामी उससे प्रसन्न था, अतः उसके स्वामी ने उसे अपने निजी सेवक के रूप में नियुक्त किया। इसके पश्चात् उसके स्वामी ने उसे अपने परिवार और सम्पूर्ण सम्पदा की देखभाल करने के लिए नियुक्त किया। BSB BSB: Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted him with everything he owned.
5 IEV जब से पोतीपर(स्वामी) ने यूसुफ को अपने घर का अधिकारी बनाया तब से यहोवा ने यूसुफ के कारण पोतीपर के घर में रहने वाले सबको समृद्धि प्रदान करना आरम्भ कर दिया। यहोवा ने पोतीपर की फसल को भी बढ़ा दिया। BSB BSB: From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
6 IEV पोतीपर ने यूसुफ पर जो कुछ पोतीपर का था सबका पूरा प्रबन्ध सौंप दिया अपने घर का पूरा प्रबन्ध छोड़ दिया। वह केवल अपने भोजन की चिन्ता करता था। उसे अपने घर में और किसी बात की चिन्ता करने की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ती थी। यूसुफ अब सुगठित शरीर वाला और आकर्षक हो गया था। BSB BSB: So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
7 IEV इसके कारण, उसके स्वामी की पत्नी उसको प्रेम भरी नजर से देखने लगी। एक दिन उसने यूसुफ से कहा,“मेरे साथ सो!” BSB BSB: and after some time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.”
8 IEV परन्तु उसने अपने स्वामी की पत्नी से कहा,“सुन! मेरा स्वामी इस घर की किसी बात की चिन्ता नहीं करता है। उसने अपनी सम्पूर्ण सम्पत्ति की देख- रेख के लिए मुझे नियुक्त किया है। BSB BSB: But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
9 IEV इस घर में मुझसे अधिक अधिकार और किसी के पास नहीं है। जिस एकमात्र पर उसने मुझे अधिकार नहीं दिया है वह तू है क्योंकि तू उसकी पत्नी है! मैं ऐसी दुष्टता कैसे कर सकता हूँ जिसके लिए तू मुझसे कह रही है? यदि मैंने ऐसा किया तो मैं परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में पाप करूँगा।” BSB BSB: No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?”
10 IEV वह दिन- प्रतिदिन यूसुफ से उसके साथ सोने के लिए कहती रही परन्तु वह मना करता रहा। वह उसके निकट भी नहीं जाता था। BSB BSB: Although Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be near her.
11 IEV एक दिन जब यूसुफ घर में अपना कार्य करने के लिए गया तब घर में अन्य कोई सेवक नहीं था। BSB BSB: One day, however, Joseph went into the house to attend to his work, and not a single household servant was inside.
12 IEV पोतीपर की पत्नी ने उसके वस्त्र को पकड़ लिया और कहा,“मेरे साथ सो!” यूसुफ घर से बाहर भाग गया, परन्तु यूसुफ का वस्त्र उसके हाथ में ही रह गया। BSB BSB: She grabbed Joseph by his cloak and said, “Sleep with me!” But leaving his cloak in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.
13 IEV जब उसने देखा कि यूसुफ अपना वस्त्र छोड़ कर बाहर भाग गया, BSB BSB: When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,
14 IEV उसने घरेलू दासों को बुलाया। उसने उनसे कहा,“देखो! यह इब्रानी दास जिसे मेरा पति यहाँ लाया था। उसने मेरा अपमान किया है। वह मेरे पास भीतर आया जहाँ मैं थी और मुझे अपने साथ सोने के लिए विवश करने का प्रयास किया, परन्तु मैं जोर से चिल्लाई। BSB BSB: she called her household servants. “Look,” she said, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, but I screamed as loud as I could.
15 IEV मेरा चिल्लाना सुन कर वह अपना वस्त्र छोड़ कर बाहर भाग गया।” BSB BSB: When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
16 IEV उसने यूसुफ के स्वामी के घर आने तक उसका वस्त्र अपने पास रखा। BSB BSB: So Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s cloak beside her until his master came home.
17 IEV तब उसे यह कहानी सुनाई,“वह इब्रानी दास जिसे तू यहाँ ले आया है, मेरे पास भीतर आया और मेरे साथ सोने के लिए मुझे विवश करने लगा। BSB BSB: Then she told him the same story: “The Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me,
18 IEV परन्तु जब मैं चिल्लाई तो अपना वस्त्र छोड़ कर बाहर भाग गया।” BSB BSB: but when I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 IEV यूसुफ के स्वामी ने अपनी पत्नी से जब यह कहानी सुनी जो वह सुना रही थी और जब उसने कहा,“तेरे दास ने मेरे साथ कैसा व्यवहार किया है।” वह बहुत क्रोधित हुआ। BSB BSB: When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” he burned with anger.
20 IEV यूसुफ के स्वामी ने यूसुफ को ले जा कर बन्दीगृह में डाल दिया। उस बन्दीगृह में राजा के सभी बन्दियों को रखा गया था, यूसुफ भी वहीं रहा। BSB BSB: So Joseph’s master took him and had him thrown into the prison where the king’s prisoners were confined. While Joseph was there in the prison,
21 IEV परन्तु यहोवा यूसुफ के प्रति दयालु रहे। पूर्वजों के साथ अपने वचन के कारण उसकी सहायता करते रहे। यहोवा ने ऐसा किया कि बन्दीगृह के प्रबन्धक यूसुफ से प्रसन्न हो गया। BSB BSB: the LORD was with him and extended kindness to him, granting him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
22 IEV तब बन्दीगृह के प्रबन्धक ने यूसुफ को बन्दीगृह के बन्दियों का और अन्य सब कार्यों का प्रभारी बना दिया। BSB BSB: And the warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care, so that he was responsible for all that was done in the prison.
23 IEV बन्दीगृह के प्रबन्धक को किसी बात की चिन्ता नहीं करनी थी क्योंकि यूसुफ कार्य सम्भाल रहा था। यहोवा ने यूसुफ को अपने सब कार्य अच्छी तरह से करने में सहायता की। BSB BSB: The warden did not concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
