1लेवियों के कुलों के अगुवे याजक एलीआजर, नून के पुत्र यहोशू और इस्राएली लोगों के कुलों के प्रधानों से बात करने के लिए शीलो आए।Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribes of Israel

2उन्होंने उनसे कहा,“यहोवा ने मूसा को आज्ञा दी कि हमें ऐसे शहर दिए जहाँ हम रह सकें और जहाँ हमें अपने पशुओं के लिए चारागाह मिलें।”at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our livestock.”

3अतः इस्राएली अगुओं ने यहोवा के इस आदेश का पालन किया। उन्होंने लेवी के गोत्र को अपने- अपने क्षेत्र से बाहर शहर और चारागाह दिए।So by the command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands out of their own inheritance:

4इस्राएली अगुओं ने सबसे पहले कहात के वंशजों को शहर देने के लिए चिट्ठियाँ डालीं। यह कुल हारून का वंशज था। उन्होंने उसे तेरह शहर यहूदा, शिमोन और बिन्यामीन के गोत्र से दिए।The first lot came out for the Kohathite clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

7मरारी से निकले कुलों के लोगों के लिए, इस्राएली अगुओं ने रूबेन, गाद और जबूलून के गोत्रों के क्षेत्रों में से बारह शहर दिए।And the descendants of Merari received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

8इस तरह, इस्राएली अगुओं ने लेवी के गोत्र को नगर और चारागाह दिए। यह मूसा को दी गई यहोवा की आज्ञा थी।So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these cities, together with their pasturelands, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.

9इस्राएली अगुओं द्वारा यहूदा और शिमोन के गोत्रों के क्षेत्र से लेवी के गोत्र को दिए गए नगरों तथा चारागाहों के नाम इस प्रकार हैंःFrom the tribes of Judah and Simeon, they designated these cities by name

10सबसे पहले, हारून के वंशजों में से लेवी वंश के कहात के कुलों को इस्राएली अगुओं द्वारा चिट्ठियाँ डालीं। ये लोग याजकीय सेवा में थे।to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them:

11इस्राएल के अगुओं ने उन्हें यहूदा के पहाड़ी देश(अर्बा अनाक का पिता था) में किर्यतअर्बा(जिसे अब हेब्रोन कहा जाता है) और आस- पास के चारागाह दिए।They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of Anak.)

24अय्यालोन, और गत्रिम्मोन– चारागाहों के साथ ये चार शहर थे।Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon—four cities, together with their pasturelands.

25कहात से निकले इन कुलों को मनश्शे के गोत्र को दिए गए क्षेत्र में से दो नगर भी मिले। तानाक और गत्रिम्मोन दो शहर- चारागाहों के साथ थे।And from the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Taanach and Gath-rimmon—two cities, together with their pasturelands.

26ये सब आस- पास की चारागाहों के साथ दस नगर थे, जो कहात के इन विशेष कुलों से मिले थे।In all, ten cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.

33अतः गेर्शोनियों को आस- पास की चारागाहों के साथ तेरह शहर प्राप्त हुए।In all, thirteen cities, together with their pasturelands, were given to the Gershonite clans.

34इस्राएली अगुओं ने बाकी लेवियों को भी शहर दिए, अर्थात्, वे लोग जो मरारी के वंशजों से निकले कुलों से सम्बन्धित थे। इन कुलों को जबूलून के क्षेत्र में से कुछ शहर मिले। ये शहर थेः योकनाम, कार्ता,This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given: From the tribe of Zebulun they were given Jokneam, Kartah,

38मरारी से निकले कुलों को गाद के क्षेत्र में से भी शहर मिले। ये शहर थेः रामोत, जो गिलाद के उन शहरों में से एक था जहाँ लोग अनजाने में किसी को मार डालने पर सुरक्षा के लिए भाग कर जा सकते थे, और महनैम।And from the tribe of Gad they were given Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for the manslayer, Mahanaim,

39वहाँ हेशबोन और याजेर के शहर भी थे– चारागाहों के साथ ये चार शहर थे।Heshbon, and Jazer—four cities in all, together with their pasturelands.

40मरारी से निकले वंशजों के सब कुलों को बारह शहर प्राप्त हुए क्योंकि इस्राएली अगुओं ने उनके लिए चिट्ठियाँ डाली थीं।In all, twelve cities were allotted to the clans of Merari, the remaining Levite clans.

41अतः लेवियों को सब इस्राएली गोत्रों के क्षेत्रों में से अड़तालीस शहर प्राप्त हुए। साथ ही उन शहरों के आस- पास की चारागाहें भी मिली थीं।For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites.

42इन शहरों में से हर एक के आस- पास चारागाह थी।Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.

43इस प्रकार यहोवा ने इस्राएली लोगों को वह सारा देश दे दिया जिसे उसने उनके पूर्वजों को देने की प्रतिज्ञा की थी। इस्राएलियों ने इन क्षेत्रों पर अधिकार किया और उनमें बस गए।Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it.

44जैसे उसने उनके पूर्वजों से प्रतिज्ञा की थी, यहोवा ने उनके चारों ओर के शत्रुओं से उन्हें शान्ति दिलाई। उनके किसी भी शत्रु ने उन्हें पराजित नहीं किया। यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों के सब शत्रुओं को पराजित करने में उनकी सहायता की थी।And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their fathers. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों से की गई अपनी प्रत्येक प्रतिज्ञा को पूरा किया। उसकी प्रत्येक प्रतिज्ञा सच्ची सिद्ध हुई।Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.
