1यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा,And the LORD said to Moses,

2“इस्राएलियों कि उन्हें मिद्यानियों अपना से बदला लें उसके बाद तू मर जाएगा।”“Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”

3तब मूसा ने लोगों से कहा,“युद्ध के लिए कुछ लोगों को तैयार करो। जो मिद्यानियों ने हमारे साथ किया था उसका बदला लेने के लिए यहोवा हमें शक्ति देगा।So Moses told the people, “Arm some of your men for war, that they may go against the Midianites and execute the LORD’s vengeance on them.

4प्रत्येक गोत्र से युद्ध के लिए हजार- हजार पुरुषों का चयन करो।”Send into battle a thousand men from each tribe of Israel.”

5अत: प्रत्येक गोत्र से एक हजार इस प्रकार बारह हजार पुरुष युद्ध में जाने के लिए तैयार हो गए।So a thousand men were recruited from each tribe of Israel—twelve thousand armed for war.

6जब मूसा ने उन्हें युद्ध में भेजा, तो एलीआजर याजक का पुत्र पीनहास उनके साथ गया। उसने पवित्र- तम्बू से कुछ चीजें और तुरही लीं, जो युद्ध आरम्भ करने के लिए फूँकी जाएँगी।And Moses sent the thousand from each tribe into battle, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, who took with him the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.

7इस्राएलियों ने मिद्यानियों के सैनिकों से युद्ध किया, जैसा यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा था और उन्होंने मिद्यानियों के हर एक व्यक्ति को मार डाला।Then they waged war against Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed every male.

8जिन लोगों को उन्होंने मार डाला उनमें से मिद्यानियों के पाँच राजा थे— एवी, रेकेम, सूर, हूर और रेबा। उन्होंने बोर के पुत्र बिलाम को भी तलवार से मार डाला।Among the slain were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.

9उन्होंने मिद्यानियों की सब स्त्रियों और बच्चों को पकड़ लिया और उनके मवेशियों, भेड़ और बकरियों के झुण्ड और सारी सम्पत्ति समेत बन्दी बना लिया।The Israelites captured the Midianite women and their children, and they plundered all their herds, flocks, and goods.

10तब उन्होंने उन नगरों और गाँवों के सभी घरों को जला दिया जहाँ मिद्यानी रहते थे।Then they burned all the cities where the Midianites had lived, as well as all their encampments,

11परन्तु वे उन सभी स्त्रियों और बच्चों और पशुओं और सम्पत्तियों को अपने साथ ले आए।and carried away all the plunder and spoils, both people and animals.

12वे ये सब एलीआजर और मूसा और अन्य इस्राएलियों लोगों के पास ले आए जो यरदन नदी के तट पर यरीहो के पास मोआब के मैदानों पर अपने डेरे में थे।They brought the captives, spoils, and plunder to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of Israel at the camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.

13एलीआजर और लोगों के सब प्रधान और मूसा उन्हें बधाई देने के लिए डेरे के बाहर गए।And Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the congregation went to meet them outside the camp.

14परन्तु मूसा उनमें से कुछ लोगों से क्रोधित था जो युद्ध से लौट आए थे। वह सेना के अधिकारियों से क्रोधित था, जो हजार पुरुषों और सौ पुरुषों के अधिकारी थे।But Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who were returning from the battle.

16इन स्त्रियों ने बिलाम के सुझाव के अनुसार किया था और हमारे लोगों से यहोवा के स्थान में बाल की आराधना करने को प्रेरित किया था जिसके कारण यहोवा ने पोर में रहते हुए अपने लोगों पर मरी भेजी थी।“Look, these women caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to turn unfaithfully against the LORD at Peor, so that the plague struck the congregation of the LORD.

17इसलिए, अब तुम्हें मिद्यानियों के सभी लड़कों को मारना होगा, और उन सब स्त्रियों को जो कुँवारी नहीं उन्हें भी मार डालना होगा।So now, kill all the boys, as well as every woman who has had relations with a man,

18केवल उन लड़कियों को जीवित रख छोड़ना जो कुँवारी हैं। तुम उन्हें अपनी पत्नी या दासी बनाने के लिए रख सकते हो।but spare for yourselves every girl who has never had relations with a man.

19तुम सभी ने जिसने किसी को मारा है या युद्ध में मारे गए किसी व्यक्ति के शव को छुआ है, तो उन्हें छावनी के बाहर सात दिन तक रहना होगा। तीसरे दिन और सातवें दिन, तुम्हें अनुष्ठान करना होगा कि तुम फिर से परमेश्वर के लिए स्वीकार्य हो जाओ।All of you who have killed a person or touched the dead are to remain outside the camp for seven days. On the third day and the seventh day you are to purify both yourselves and your captives.

20तुम्हें अपने कपड़े और युद्ध में ले कर गए कोई भी वस्तु जो चमड़े या बकरी के बाल या लकड़ी से बनी है, धोना है।”And purify every garment and leather good, everything made of goat’s hair, and every article of wood.”

21तब एलीआजर ने उन सैनिकों को जो युद्ध से लौट आए थे, कहा“यहोवा ने मूसा को यह निर्देश दिया है।Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses:

22तुम जो भी सोने या चाँदी या पीतल या लोहे या टीन या सीसा से बनी वस्तुओं को तुम युद्ध से लाए हो, उसे आग में डालना होगा।Only the gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, and lead—

23जो कुछ भी आग में नहीं जलेगा, उसे रखो, और फिर वे तुम्हारे उपयोग हेतु स्वीकार्य होगी। परन्तु उन वस्तुओं पर भी वह पानी छिड़कना जो वस्तुओं और मनुष्यों को परमेश्वर के लिए स्वीकार्य बनाती है। जो वस्तुएँ आग में डालने से जल जाएँ, उन पर भी पानी छिड़क देना।everything that can withstand the fire—must be put through the fire, and it will be clean. But it must still be purified with the water of purification. And everything that cannot withstand the fire must pass through the water.

24सातवें दिन, अपने कपड़े धोना, और फिर तुम परमेश्वर के लिए स्वीकार्य हो जाओगे। ऐसा करने के बाद, तुम छावनी में वापस आ सकते हो।”On the seventh day you are to wash your clothes, and you will be clean. After that you may enter the camp.”

25यहोवा ने मूसा से यह भी कहा,The LORD said to Moses,

26“युद्ध में पकड़े गए सब सामान, स्त्रियों और पशुओं की एक सूची बनाओ।“You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the congregation are to take a count of what was captured, both of man and beast.

27फिर एलीआजर और परिवारों के प्रधानों से कहो कि वे उन सब वस्तुओं को उन लोगों के बीच जो युद्ध में गए थे और बाकी इस्राएलियों के बीच बाँट दें।Then divide the captives between the troops who went out to battle and the rest of the congregation.

28जो लोग युद्ध में लड़ने गए थे उनमें से पाँच सौ पर एक पुरुष और प्रत्येक पाँच सौ मवेशी, गधे और भेड़ों में से एक- एक, मेरे लिए कर स्वरूप ले लो।Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the soldiers who went into battle: one out of every five hundred, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, or sheep.

29इन सबको मेरा भाग होने के लिए भेंट स्वरूप एलीआजर को दे।Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as an offering to the LORD.

30और सब वस्तुओं में से प्रत्येक पचास में से एक वस्तु लें। इसमें लोग, मवेशी, गधे, भेड़, बकरियाँ, और अन्य पशु हैं। उन सबको लेवी के वंशजों को दें जो मेरे पवित्र- तम्बू की सेवा करते हैं।”From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty, whether persons, cattle, donkeys, sheep, or other animals, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.”

31तब एलीआजर और मूसा ने यहोवा की आज्ञा के अनुसार किया।So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD had commanded Moses,

326, 75, 000 भेड़ें, सत्तर हजार मवेशी, इकसठ हजार गधे, और बत्तीस हजार कुँवारियाँ थीं जिन्हें उन्होंने मिद्यानियों से पकड़ा था।and this plunder remained from the spoils the soldiers had taken: 675,000 sheep,

36जो लोग युद्ध में गए थे, उन्होंने 3, 37, 000 भेड़ें पकड़ी थीThis was the half portion for those who had gone to war: 337,500 sheep,

37और उन्होंने उनमें से 675 यहोवा को दिया।including a tribute to the LORD of 675,

38उन्होंने छत्तीस हजार मवेशियों को लिया और उनमें से 72 को यहोवा को दीं।36,000 cattle, including a tribute to the LORD of 72,

39उन्होंने 30, 500 गधे ले लिए, जिनमें से 61 यहोवा को दिए।30,500 donkeys, including a tribute to the LORD of 61,

40उन्होंने सोलह हजार कुँवारियाँ लीं, और उनमें से 32 को यहोवा को दी।and 16,000 people, including a tribute to the LORD of 32.

41मूसा ने यहोवा आज्ञा के अनुसार उन सब पशुओं को जो यहोवा को दिए गए थे, एलीआजर को दे दिया।Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as an offering for the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

50इसलिए यहोवा का धन्यवाद करने के लिए, हम युद्ध में प्राप्त सोने के गहनों की भेंट लाए हैं: सोने के कड़े और कंगन और अंगूठियाँ, बालियाँ और हार। हमें आशा है कि यह हमारे पापों के लिए प्रायश्चित होगा।”So we have brought to the LORD an offering of the gold articles each man acquired—armlets, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.”

51इसलिए एलीआजर और मूसा ने उनके द्वारा लाया गया सोना स्वीकार कर लिया।So Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them all the articles made out of gold.

52उनकी भेंट का वजन लगभग एक सौ इक्यानबे किलोग्राम था।All the gold that the commanders of thousands and of hundreds presented as an offering to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.

53प्रत्येक सैनिक ने इन वस्तुओं को अपने लिए लिया था।Each of the soldiers had taken plunder for himself.

54एलीआजर और मूसा ने सोने की वे वस्तुएँ सेना के अधिकारियों से स्वीकार करके पवित्र- तम्बू में रख दीं कि इस्राएलियों को स्मरण कराएँ कि यहोवा ने मिद्यानियों को पराजित करने में उनकी कैसे सहायता की थी।And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the Tent of Meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
