1 UDB एलीशा ने शूनेम शहर की स्त्री के बेटे को फिर से जीवित करने के बाद, उसे बताया था कि उसे अपने परिवार के साथ वहाँ से निकल कर कुछ समय के लिए कहीं और रहना चाहिए, क्योंकि यहोवा उस देश में अकाल भेजने जा रहे हैं। उसने कहा कि अकाल सात वर्ष तक रहेगा। BSB BSB: Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Arise, you and your household; go and live as a foreigner wherever you can. For the LORD has decreed that a seven-year famine will come to the land.”
2 UDB इसलिए उस स्त्री ने वैसा किया जैसा एलीशा ने उसे करने के लिए कहा था। वह और उसका परिवार सात वर्ष तक पलिश्तियों के क्षेत्र में रहने के लिए चला गया। BSB BSB: So the woman had proceeded to do as the man of God had instructed. And she and her household lived as foreigners for seven years in the land of the Philistines.
3 UDB सात वर्ष समाप्त होने के बाद, वे अपने घर लौट आए। स्त्री राजा से अनुरोध करने के लिए गई कि उसका घर और उसकी भूमि उसे वापस दे दी जाए। BSB BSB: At the end of seven years, when the woman returned from the land of the Philistines, she went to the king to appeal for her house and her land.
4 UDB जब वह वहाँ पहुँची, तो राजा एलीशा के सेवक गेहजी से बात कर रहा था। राजा उससे कह रहा था, "एलीशा ने जो बड़े बड़े काम किए हैं, वह मुझे बता।" BSB BSB: Now the king had been speaking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please relate to me all the great things Elisha has done.”
5 UDB जब गेहजी राजा को बता रहा था कि एलीशा ने शूनेम की एक स्त्री के बेटे को फिर से जीवित कर दिया था, वह स्त्री अन्दर आई और राजा से अनुरोध किया कि वह उसे उसका घर और भूमि फिर से प्राप्त करने में सक्षम करे। गेहजी ने कहा, "हे महाराज, यह वही स्त्री है जिसके पुत्र को एलीशा ने फिर से जीवित कर दिया था!" BSB BSB: And Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had brought the dead back to life. Just then the woman whose son Elisha had revived came to appeal to the king for her house and her land. So Gehazi said, “My lord the king, this is the woman, and this is the son Elisha restored to life.”
6 UDB जब राजा ने उससे इसके विषय में पूछा, तो उसने उसे बताया कि गेहजी ने जो कहा था वह सच है। राजा ने अपने अधिकारियों में से एक को बुलाया और कहा, "यह सुनिश्चित कर कि इस स्त्री को इसके स्वामित्व वाली हर वस्तु फिर से मिल जाए, जिसमें पिछले सात वर्षों में काटी गई उन सभी फसलों के मूल्य भी हैं, जिस समय में वह अपनी भूमि से दूर थी। "अतः उस अधिकारी ने ऐसा ही किया। BSB BSB: When the king asked the woman, she confirmed it. So the king appointed for her an officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, along with all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the country until now.”
7 UDB एलीशा अराम की राजधानी दमिश्क में गया, उस समय अराम का राजा बेनहदद बहुत बीमार था। जब किसी ने राजा से कहा कि एलीशा दमिश्क में है, BSB BSB: Then Elisha came to Damascus while Ben-hadad king of Aram was sick, and the king was told, “The man of God has come here.”
8 UDB तो राजा ने अपने अधिकारियों में से एक हजाएल को कहा, "जा और उस भविष्यद्वक्ता से बात कर और उसे देने के लिए अपने साथ एक उपहार ले जा और उससे कह कि वह यहोवा से पूछे कि क्या मैं अपनी बीमारी से ठीक हो जाऊँगा।" BSB BSB: So the king said to Hazael, “Take a gift in your hand, go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD through him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 UDB अतः हजाएल एलीशा से बात करने गया। उसने अपने साथ चालीस ऊँट ले लिए जो दमिश्क में उत्पादित कई प्रकार के सामान से लदे हुए थे। जब हजाएल उससे मिला, तो उसने कहा, "अराम का राजा तेरे मित्र बेनहदद ने तुझसे यह पूछने के लिए मुझे भेजा है कि वह अपनी बीमारी से ठीक हो पाएगा या नहीं।" BSB BSB: So Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him a gift of forty camel loads of every good thing from Damascus. And he went in and stood before him and said, “Your son Ben-hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 UDB एलीशा ने हजाएल से कहा, "जा और उससे कह, 'हाँ, तू निश्चय ही इस बीमारी से नहीं मरेगा,' परन्तु यहोवा ने मुझे दिखाया है कि वह ठीक होने से पहले अवश्य मर जाएगा।" BSB BSB: Elisha answered, “Go and tell him, ‘You will surely recover.’ But the LORD has shown me that in fact he will die.”
11 UDB तब एलीशा ने उसे घूरा और उसके चेहरे को घूरकर देखा। इससे हजाएल को कुछ विचित्र सा लगा। फिर अचानक एलीशा ने रोना शुरू कर दिया। BSB BSB: Elisha fixed his gaze steadily on him until Hazael became uncomfortable. Then the man of God began to weep.
12 UDB हजाएल ने कहा, "हे महोदय, तू क्यों रो रहा है?" एलीशा ने उत्तर दिया, "क्योंकि यहोवा ने मुझे उन भयानक बातों को प्रकट किया है जो तू इस्राएल के लोगों के साथ करेगा। तेरे सैनिक उनके शहरों को जलाएँगे जिनके चारों ओर अभी दीवारें हैं, युद्ध में उनके अच्छे जवानों को मार डालेंगे, उनके बच्चों के सिर को कुचल देंगे, और उनकी गर्भवती स्त्रियों के पेट को तलवार से फाड़ देंगे।" BSB BSB: “Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael. “Because I know the evil you will do to the Israelites,” Elisha replied. “You will set fire to their fortresses, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little ones to pieces, and rip open their pregnant women.”
13 UDB हजाएल ने उत्तर दिया, "मैं कुत्ते के समान शक्तिहीन हूँ। मैं ऐसे भयानक काम कैसे कर सकता हूँ?" एलीशा ने उत्तर दिया, "यहोवा ने मुझे यह भी बताया है कि तू अराम का राजा बनेगा।" BSB BSB: “But how could your servant, a mere dog, do such a monstrous thing?” said Hazael. And Elisha answered, “The LORD has shown me that you will be king over Aram.”
14 UDB तब हजाएल चला गया और अपने स्वामी राजा के पास लौट आया, जिसने उससे पूछा, "एलीशा ने क्या कहा?" उसने उत्तर दिया, "उसने मुझे बताया कि तू निश्चय ही ठीक हो जाओगे।" BSB BSB: So Hazael left Elisha and went to his master, who asked him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he replied, “He told me that you would surely recover.”
15 UDB परन्तु अगले दिन, जब राजा सो रहा था, हजाएल ने एक कम्बल लिया और उसे पानी में भिगो दिया। फिर उसने राजा के चेहरे पर इसे डाल दिया ताकि वह सांस न ले सके, और वह मर गया। तब बेनहदद के स्थान में हजाएल अराम का राजा बन गया। BSB BSB: But the next day Hazael took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it over the king’s face. So Ben-hadad died, and Hazael reigned in his place.
16 UDB अहाब के पुत्र राजा योराम के, लगभग पाँच वर्षों तक इस्राएल पर शासन करने के बाद, यहोशापात का पुत्र यहोराम यहूदा का राजा बन गया। BSB BSB: In the fifth year of the reign of Joram son of Ahab over Israel, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat succeeded his father as king of Judah.
17 UDB जब वह राजा बना, तब वह बत्तीस वर्ष का था, और उसने यरूशलेम पर आठ वर्ष तक शासन किया। BSB BSB: Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years.
18 UDB उसकी पत्नी राजा अहाब की पुत्री थी। अहाब के परिवार के हर व्यक्ति के समान, उसने निरंतर उन बुरे कामों को किया जो इस्राएल के पिछले राजाओं ने किये थे। उसने ऐसे कई काम किए जिनको यहोवा ने बुरा कहा था। BSB BSB: And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
19 UDB परन्तु यहोवा यहूदा के लोगों से इस कारण छुटकारा नहीं पाना चाहते थे, क्योंकि उन्होंने अपने सच्चे सेवक दाऊद से प्रतिज्ञा की थी। उन्होंने दाऊद से प्रतिज्ञा की थी कि उसके वंशज सदा यहूदा पर शासन करेंगे। BSB BSB: Yet for the sake of His servant David, the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah, since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.
20 UDB यहोराम के शासन के समय, अदोम के राजा ने यहूदा के विरूद्ध विद्रोह किया, और उन्होंने अपना राजा नियुक्त किया। BSB BSB: In the days of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against the hand of Judah and appointed their own king.
21 UDB तब यहोराम अपनी सेना और अपने सारे रथों के साथ अदोम की सीमा के पास साईर शहर गया। वहाँ एदोम की सेना ने उन्हें घेर लिया। परन्तु रात के दौरान, यहोराम और उनके रथों के सरदार शत्रु की पांतियों से बचने और भागने में सक्षम हो गए थे। और उसके सभी सैनिक भी अपने घरों को भाग गए। BSB BSB: So Jehoram crossed over to Zair with all his chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night. His troops, however, fled to their homes.
22 UDB उसके बाद, एदोम पर यहूदा का नियंत्रण नहीं रहा, और यह अब भी ऐसा ही है। उसी समय, लिब्ना शहर के लोगों ने भी यहूदा के नियंत्रण से स्वयं को मुक्त कर लिया। BSB BSB: So to this day Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah. Likewise, Libnah rebelled at the same time.

24 UDB यहोराम की मृत्यु हो गई और उसे वहाँ दफनाया गया जहाँ यहूदा के अन्य राजाओं को दफनाया गया था अर्थात् यरूशलेम के उस भाग में जिसे दाऊद का शहर कहा जाता था। तब यहोराम का पुत्र अहज्याह राजा बन गया। BSB BSB: And Jehoram rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son Ahaziah reigned in his place.
25 UDB अहाब के पुत्र योराम के बारह वर्षों तक इस्राएल पर शासन करने के बाद, यहोराम का पुत्र अहज्याह यहूदा का राजा बन गया। BSB BSB: In the twelfth year of the reign of Joram son of Ahab over Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram became king of Judah.
27 UDB राजा अहज्याह ने अपना जीवन अहाब के परिवार के सदस्यों के समान रखा। उसने ऐसे कई काम किए जिनको यहोवा ने बुरा कहा था। BSB BSB: And Ahaziah walked in the ways of the house of Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab, for he was a son-in-law of the house of Ahab.
29 UDB राजा योराम अपने घावों से ठीक होने के लिए यिज्रेल शहर लौट आया। राजा अहज्याह वहां उससे मिलने गया। BSB BSB: So King Joram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds that the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. Then Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to visit Joram son of Ahab, because Joram had been wounded.
