1 UDB मूसा को उस पर्वत पर बहुत लम्बा समय लग गया। जब इस्राएलियों ने देखा कि मूसा पर्वत से नीचे नहीं उतरा, तब उन्होंने हारून के पास जाकर कहा, “हमारे लिए देवताओं को बना जो हमें इस यात्रा में आगे ले चले। हम नहीं जानते कि मूसा के साथ क्या हुआ है जो हमें मिस्र से निकाल के लाया था।” BSB BSB: Now when the people saw that Moses was delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!”
2 UDB हारून ने उनसे कहा, “ठीक है। तुम एक काम करो। अपनी पत्नियों और संतानों से कहो कि वे अपनी सोने की बालियाँ निकाल कर मुझे दें।” BSB BSB: So Aaron told them, “Take off the gold earrings that are on your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”
3 UDB इसलिए उन्होंने अपनी स्त्रियों की सोने की बालियाँ उतरवाकर हारून को दे दी। BSB BSB: Then all the people took off their gold earrings and brought them to Aaron.
4 UDB हारून ने सब सोना लेकर आग में पिघलाया और एक मूर्ति बनाकर उन्हें दी जो बछड़े जैसी दिखती थी। इस्राएलियों ने उस मूर्ति को देख कर कहा, “इस्राएल के लोगों, यह हमारा देवता है जो हमें मिस्र से बाहर लाया है।” BSB BSB: He took the gold from their hands, and with an engraving tool he fashioned it into a molten calf. And they said, “These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
5 UDB हारून ने जब इस्राएलियों की प्रतिक्रिया देखी तब उसने बछड़े के आगे एक वेदी बना कर घोषणा की, “कल हम यहोवा के सम्मान में पर्व मनायेंगे।” BSB BSB: When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before the calf and proclaimed: “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.”
6 UDB इसलिए अगले दिन इस्राएली शीघ्र उठे और उस बछड़े की वेदी पर बलि चढ़ाने के लिए पशु ले आए कि होम-बलि चढ़ाएं। वे मेलबलि भी ले आए। उन्होंने भोजन खाया और मदिरापान किया और फिर उठकर अनुचित व्यवहार करने लगे। BSB BSB: So the next day they arose, offered burnt offerings, and presented peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.
7 UDB तब यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, “पर्वत से नीचे जा क्योंकि जिन्हें तू मिस्र देश से निकाल कर ले आया है, वे भ्रष्ट हो गए हैं। BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
8 UDB वे मेरे बताए मार्ग से भटक गए है और मेरे आदेशों का पालन नहीं किया है। उन्होंने सोना पिघला कर एक मूर्ति को बनाया है और उसके सामने बलियाँ चढ़ा कर उसकी पूजा की है। वे कहते हैं, ‘यह इस्राएलियों का परमेश्वर है और यह ही है जो हमें मिस्र से निकाल कर बाहर लाया है।’ BSB BSB: How quickly they have turned aside from the way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed down to it. They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
9 UDB मैं जानता हूँ कि वे हठीले हैं। BSB BSB: The LORD also said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people.
10 UDB मेरा क्रोध उन पर भड़क उठा है और मैं उन्हें नष्ट करने वाला हूँ इसलिए मुझे मत रोकना। मैं तुझे और तेरे वंशजों ही को एक महान जाति बनाऊँगा।” BSB BSB: Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and consume them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”
11 UDB परन्तु मूसा ने अपने परमेश्वर, यहोवा से विनती की। उसने कहा, “हे यहोवा, अपनी प्रजा पर क्रोध न करें। ये वही लोग हैं जिन्हें आपने अपने महा-शक्ति से मिस्र से बचाया है। BSB BSB: But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
12 UDB ऐसा मत करो कि मिस्रवासी कहें कि, ‘उनका परमेश्वर उन्हें हमारे देश से निकाल कर तो ले गए परन्तु इसलिए कि उन्हें पर्वतों में नष्ट करके उनसे पूरी तरह से हाथ धो ले! अपनी प्रजा के साथ ऐसा भयानक व्यवहार न करें जैसा आप करना चाहते हैं। ऐसा क्रोध मत करो और अपना विचार बदल दो। BSB BSB: Why should the Egyptians declare, ‘He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce anger and relent from doing harm to Your people.
13 UDB अपने दासों अब्राहम, इसहाक और याकूब को तो याद करो। आपने उनसे प्रतिज्ञा करके कहा था, ‘मैं तेरे वंशजों को आकाश के तारों के समान अनगिनत कर दूँगा।’ आपने यह भी तो कहा था, ‘मैं तेरे वंशजों को वह देश दूँगा जिसकी मैंने प्रतिज्ञा की है। वह देश सदा के लिए उनका होगा।’” BSB BSB: Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom You swore by Your very self when You declared, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give your descendants all this land that I have promised, and it shall be their inheritance forever.’”
14 UDB इसलिए यहोवा ने उनका भयानक अंत करने का विचार त्याग दिया। अर्थात वह नहीं किया जो उन्होंने करने के लिया कहा था। BSB BSB: So the LORD relented from the calamity He had threatened to bring on His people.
15 UDB तब मूसा यहोवा के पास से निकल कर पर्वत के नीचे उतरा। उसके हाथ में परमेश्वर द्वारा लिखी गई आज्ञाओं की दो पत्थर की पट्टियाँ थी। परमेश्वर ने उन पट्टियों के दोनों ओर लिखा था। BSB BSB: Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back.
16 UDB परमेश्वर ने स्वयं पत्थर की उन पट्टियों को खोदकर उन पर आज्ञाएँ लिखीं थी। BSB BSB: The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.
17 UDB यहोशू ने इस्राएलियों का शोर सुना। जब मूसा छावनी के निकट पहुँचा तब हारून ने मूसा से कहा, “छावनी में जो कोलाहल हो रहा है वह युद्ध के समान है।” BSB BSB: When Joshua heard the sound of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “The sound of war is in the camp.”
18 UDB मूसा ने हारून से कहा, “नहीं, यह युद्ध में विजय का शोर नहीं है। न ही यह युद्ध में पराजय का शोर है। मुझे तो यह गाने का सा सुनाई देता है।” BSB BSB: But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
19 UDB छावनी के समीप पहुँच कर मूसा ने बछड़े की मूर्ति और लोगों का नाचना देखा तो वह बहुत क्रोधित हो गया और उसने पत्थर की वे पट्टियाँ पर्वत के नीचे फेंक दी जिससे वे टूट गई। BSB BSB: As Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, he burned with anger and threw the tablets out of his hands, shattering them at the base of the mountain.
20 UDB तब मूसा ने सोने के उस बछड़े की मूर्ति को आग में पिघला दिया और ठंडा होने पर उसे पीस डाला और उसके चूर्ण को पानी में घोल कर इस्राएलियों को पिलाया। BSB BSB: Then he took the calf they had made, burned it in the fire, ground it to powder, and scattered the powder over the face of the water. Then he forced the Israelites to drink it.
21 UDB तब मूसा ने हारून से पूछा, “इन लोगों ने तेरे साथ क्या ऐसा किया था कि तू ने इनसे यह पाप करवाया।” BSB BSB: “What did this people do to you,” Moses asked Aaron, “that you have led them into so great a sin?”
22 UDB हारून ने मूसा से कहा, “कृपा करके मुझ पर क्रोध न कर, मेरे प्रभु। तू जानता है कि ये लोग सदा गलत काम करने को तैयार रहते हैं। BSB BSB: “Do not be enraged, my lord,” Aaron replied. “You yourself know that the people are intent on evil.
23 UDB उन्होंने मुझसे कहा, ‘हमारे लिए एक मूर्ति बना जो यात्रा में हमें आगे ले चले। जो मूसा हमें मिस्र देश से निकाल लाया है उसका क्या हुआ हम नहीं जानते।’ BSB BSB: They told me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!’
24 UDB इसलिए मैंने उनसे कहा, “तुम सब अपने कानों से सोने की बालियाँ उतार लाओ। उन्होंने अपनी सोने की बालियाँ लाकर मुझे दे दी। और मैंने उन्हें आग में डाल दिया तो बछड़े की यह मूर्ति निकल कर आई।” BSB BSB: So I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let him take it off,’ and they gave it to me. And when I threw it into the fire, out came this calf!”
25 UDB मूसा ने देखा कि हारून इस्राएलियों पर नियंत्रण नहीं रख पाया और कुछ ऐसा किया जिससे उनके शत्रु सोचेंगे कि वे मूर्ख थे। BSB BSB: Moses saw that the people were out of control, for Aaron had let them run wild and become a laughingstock to their enemies.
26 UDB इसलिए वह छावनी के प्रवेश स्थान में खड़ा हो गया और पुकार कर कहा, “जो यहोवा का भक्त है, वह मेरे पास आ जाए।” यह सुन कर लैवी गोत्र के सब लोग उनके पास आ गए। BSB BSB: So Moses stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites gathered around him.
27 UDB मूसा ने उनसे कहा, “इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा कहता है कि तुम अपनी-अपनी तलवार कमर से बाँध कर छावनी के इस द्वार से उस द्वार तक जाओ। हर एक सामने वाले को मार डालो। चाहे वह तुम्हारे भाई या मित्र या पड़ोसी ही क्यों न हों।” BSB BSB: He told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each of you men is to fasten his sword to his side, go back and forth through the camp from gate to gate, and slay his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.’”
28 UDB लेवियों ने मूसा की आज्ञा मानकर उस दिन तीन हजार लोगों को मार डाला। BSB BSB: The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people fell dead.
29 UDB तब मूसा ने लेवियों से कहा, “आज तुम अपने पुत्रों और अपने भाइयों को मार कर यहोवा के विशेष सेवक बन गए हो। इसलिए यहोवा ने तुम्हें आशीष दी है।” BSB BSB: Afterward, Moses said, “Today you have been ordained for service to the LORD, since each man went against his son and his brother; so the LORD has bestowed a blessing on you this day.”
30 UDB अगले दिन मूसा ने इस्राएलियों से कहा, “तुमने महापाप किया है। मैं यहोवा से बातें करने के लिए फिर से पर्वत पर चढूँगा। संभव है कि मैं तुम्हारे इस पाप की क्षमा के लिए उन्हें मना पाऊँ।” BSB BSB: The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
31 UDB इसलिए मूसा ने पर्वत पर चढ़ कर यहोवा से कहा, “मैं बड़े दु:ख से स्वीकार करता हूँ कि इन लोगों ने बछड़े की मूर्ति बना कर उसकी पूजा की जो महापाप है। BSB BSB: So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made gods of gold for themselves.
32 UDB मैं आपसे विनती करता हूँ कि आप उनका यह पाप क्षमा कर दें। यदि आप उन्हें क्षमा नहीं करते हैं तो मेरा नाम अपनी उस पुस्तक में से मिटा दें जिसमें आपने अपने लोगों के नाम लिखे हुए है।” BSB BSB: Yet now, if You would only forgive their sin.... But if not, please blot me out of the book that You have written.”
33 UDB यहोवा ने मूसा से कहा, “मैं अपनी पुस्तक से उन्हीं लोगों के नाम मिटाऊँगा जिन्होंने पाप किया है। BSB BSB: The LORD replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot out of My book.
34 UDB अब जाकर इस्राएलियों को उस स्थान में ले जा जिसके बारे में मैंने तुझसे कहा है। याद रख कि मेरा स्वर्गदूत तेरी अगुआई करेगा परन्तु जिस समय मैं निर्णय ले लूँगा उस समय उन्हें उनके पाप का दण्ड दूँगा।” BSB BSB: Now go, lead the people to the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you. But on the day I settle accounts, I will punish them for their sin.”
35 UDB तब यहोवा ने उन्हें रोग ग्रस्त किया क्योंकि उन्होंने हारून से बछड़े की मूर्ति बनवाई थी। BSB BSB: And the LORD sent a plague on the people because of what they had done with the calf that Aaron had made.
