1 UDB एक दिन दीना, जो याकूब और लिआ की पुत्री थी, उस क्षेत्र की कुछ स्त्रीयों से मिलने गई। BSB BSB: Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the daughters of the land.
2 UDB हिब्बी हमोर के पुत्रों में से एक, शकेम ने दीना को देखा। उसने उसे पकड़ लिया और अपने साथ शारीरिक सम्बन्ध बनाने के लिए विवश किया। BSB BSB: When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the region, saw her, he took her and lay with her by force.
3 UDB वह उससे बहुत आकर्षित था और शकेम दीना से प्रेम करने लगा। वह उससे मधुर बातें भी करने लगा। BSB BSB: And his soul was drawn to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young girl and spoke to her tenderly.
4 UDB शकेम ने अपने पिता से कहा, "कृपया इस लड़की को मेरे लिए ले आ, ताकि मैं इसके साथ विवाह कर सकूँ।" BSB BSB: So Shechem told his father Hamor, “Get me this girl as a wife.”
5 UDB जब याकूब को यह समाचार मिला कि शकेम ने उसकी पुत्री दीना के साथ ऐसी बुरी बात की है। याकूब के सभी पुत्र तब अपने पशुओं के साथ मैदान में गए थे। इसलिए वे जब तक नहीं लौटे, याकूब ने कुछ नहीं किया। BSB BSB: Jacob heard that Shechem had defiled his daughter Dinah, but since his sons were with his livestock in the field, he remained silent about it until they returned.
6 UDB इसी बीच शकेम का पिता हमोर याकूब के पास गया। BSB BSB: Meanwhile, Shechem’s father Hamor came to speak with Jacob.
7 UDB याकूब के पुत्र जब खेत से घर लौटे तब उन्हें पता चला कि क्या हुआ, तो वे चौंक गए और बहुत क्रोधित हुए। शकेम ने याकूब की पुत्री के साथ सो कर इस्राएल को कलंकित किया था। वह उनकी बहन थी! यह एक भयानक अपराध था जिसे कभी नहीं किया जाना चाहिए था। BSB BSB: When Jacob’s sons heard what had happened, they returned from the field. They were filled with grief and fury, because Shechem had committed an outrage in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.
8 UDB परन्तु हमोर ने भाइयों से बात की। उसने कहा, "मेरा पुत्र शकेम दीना से बहुत प्रेम करता है। कृपया उसे इसके साथ विवाह करने दो। BSB BSB: But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.
9 UDB आओ हम एक ऐसा समझौता करते हैं कि हम तेरे युवकों के लिए अपनी पुत्रियाँ दें कि वे उनकी पत्नियाँ हों और तू हमारे युवकों के लिए अपनी पुत्रियाँ दो कि वे उनकी पत्नियाँ हों। BSB BSB: Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.
10 UDB तुम लोग हमारे साथ एक प्रदेश में रह सकते हो। यदि तुझे कोई भूमि पसन्द आए तो उसे खरीद भी ले। तू यहाँ बेच या खरीद सकता है।" BSB BSB: You may settle among us, and the land will be open to you. Live here, move about freely, and acquire your own property.”
11 UDB तब शकेम ने दीना के पिता और भाइयों से कहा, "यदि तुम सब की कृपा दृष्टि मुझ पर हो तो जो तुम चाहो, मैं दूँगा। BSB BSB: Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Grant me this favor, and I will give you whatever you ask.
12 UDB तुम जो कुछ मुझसे कहोगे मैं दीना के वधू मूल्य में दूँगा। मुझे केवल तेरी पुत्री से विवाह करना है।" BSB BSB: Demand a high dowry and an expensive gift, and I will give you whatever you ask. Only give me the girl as my wife!”
13 UDB परन्तु शकेम ने उनकी बहन दीना के साथ अभद्र व्यवहार किया था, याकूब के पुत्र शकेम और उसके पिता, हमोर को धोखा दे रहे थे। BSB BSB: But because Shechem had defiled their sister Dinah, Jacob’s sons answered him and his father Hamor deceitfully.
14 UDB उन्होंने उनसे कहा, "नहीं, हम अपनी बहन को किसी खतना-रहित की पत्नी होने के लिए नहीं दे सकते क्योंकि ऐसा करना हमारे लिए लज्जा की बात है। BSB BSB: “We cannot do such a thing,” they said. “To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be a disgrace to us.
15 UDB ऐसा तब ही हो सकता है जब तुम लोग अपने सब पुरूषों का खतना करके हमारे जैसे हो जाओ। BSB BSB: We will consent to this on one condition, that you become circumcised like us—every one of your males.
16 UDB तब हम अपनी पुत्रियाँ तुम्हारे युवकों की पत्नियाँ होने के लिए दे देंगे और तुम्हारी पुत्रियों को अपने युवकों की पत्नियाँ होने के लिए ले लेंगे। तब हम तुम्हारे साथ रहेंगे और हम सब एक ही समुदाय होंगे। BSB BSB: Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. We will dwell among you and become one people.
17 UDB लेकिन यदि तुम खतना नहीं कराओगे तो हम अपनी बहन को लेकर यहाँ से चले जाएँगे।" BSB BSB: But if you will not agree to be circumcised, then we will take our sister and go.”
18 UDB उनकी बात से हमोर और उसका पुत्र शकेम प्रसन्न हुए। BSB BSB: Their offer seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.
19 UDB शकेम तो याकूब की पुत्री को पत्नी बनाना चाहता था और वह अपने पिता के परिवार में माननीय भी था। वह याकूब के पुत्रों की शर्त मानने के लिए तुरन्त तैयार हो गया। BSB BSB: The young man, who was the most respected of all his father’s household, did not hesitate to fulfill this request, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.
20 UDB हमोर और शकेम अपने नगर के सभास्थल गए। उन्होंने नगर के प्रधानो से बातें की और कहा, BSB BSB: So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city and addressed the men of their city:
21 UDB "ये लोग हमारे साथ मित्रभाव रखते हैं। इसलिए यह उचित है कि हम उन्हें अपने बीच रहने दें। इन्हें स्वतंत्रता से घूमने-फिरने दें। यह देश पर्याप्त बड़ा है कि हम सब का निर्वाह हो जाता है। हमारे पुत्र उनकी पुत्रियों से विवाह करें और उनके पुत्र हमारी पुत्रियों से विवाह करें। BSB BSB: “These men are at peace with us. Let them live and trade in our land; indeed, it is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters in marriage and give our daughters to them.
22 UDB परन्तु हमारे साथ मिलकर रहने के लिए उनकी एक शर्त है, हमारे सब पुरूष उनके समान खतना करवाएँ, जैसा उन्होंने कराया है। BSB BSB: But only on this condition will the men agree to dwell with us and be one people: if all our men are circumcised as they are.
23 UDB यदि हम ऐसा करते हैं तो उनका पशु धन और संपूर्ण संपदा भी तो हमारी हो जाएगी। इसलिए हम लोग उनके साथ यह सन्धि करें और वे यहीं हम लोगों के साथ रहेंगे!" BSB BSB: Will not their livestock, their possessions, and all their animals become ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell among us.”
24 UDB नगर के फाटक पर उपस्थित सब लोग हमोर और उसके पुत्र के सुझाव से सहमत हो गए। इस प्रकार उस नगर के हर एक पुरूष का खतना किया गया। BSB BSB: All the men who went out of the city gate listened to Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male of the city was circumcised.
25 UDB इसके पश्चात तीसरे दिन जब उस नगर के पुरूष खतना के कारण पीड़ित थे तब शिमोन और लेवी, दीना के भाई जो याकूब के पुत्र थे, तलवार लेकर उस नगर में घुस गए, उन्हें किसी ने नही रोका और सब पुरूषों को मार डाला। BSB BSB: Three days later, while they were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons (Dinah’s brothers Simeon and Levi) took their swords, went into the unsuspecting city, and slaughtered every male.
26 UDB उन्होंने हमोर और उसके पुत्र शकेम को भी मार डाला। तब वे दीना को शकेम के घर से बाहर ले आए और नगर छोड़ कर वहाँ से चले गए। BSB BSB: They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with their swords, took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went away.
27 UDB तब याकूब के अन्य पुत्रों ने नगर में प्रवेश किया जहाँ शव पड़े हुए थे और उस नगर को लूट कर अपनी बहन के साथ हुए लज्जा के कृत्य का बदला लिया। BSB BSB: Jacob’s other sons came upon the slaughter and looted the city, because their sister had been defiled.
28 UDB उन्होंने उस नगर के अन्दर और बाहर कि भेड़ बकरियाँ, गाय, बैल, गदहे और धन संपदा सब कुछ लूट लिया। BSB BSB: They took their flocks and herds and donkeys, and everything else in the city or in the field.
29 UDB उन्होंने सब मूल्यवान वस्तुएँ यहाँ तक कि उनके बच्चों और स्त्रियों को भी उठा लिया। घरों में जो कुछ लूट कर ले गए। BSB BSB: They carried off all their possessions and women and children, and they plundered everything in their houses.
30 UDB तब याकूब ने इस पर शिमोन और लेवी से कहा," तुमने मेरे लिए महासंकट उत्पन्न कर दिया है। अब कनानी और परिज्जी और इस देश के सब निवासी मुझसे घृणा करेंगे। मेरे पास तो इतने पुरूष भी नहीं कि यदि वे मुझ से युद्ध करने आए तो उनका सामना कर पाऊँ। वे तो हमें और हमारे संपूर्ण समुदाय को नष्ट कर देंगे!" BSB BSB: Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble upon me by making me a stench to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people of this land. We are few in number; if they unite against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”
31 UDB परन्तु उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, "क्या हमें शकेम को हमारी बहन के साथ वैश्या के समान व्यवहार करने देना चाहिए था?" BSB BSB: But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?”
