1 UDB अब यरीहो शहर के हर फाटक को दृढ़ता से बन्द कर दिया गया था, क्योंकि लोग इस्राएल की सेना से डरते थे। कोई भी शहर में प्रवेश नहीं कर सकता था या शहर से बाहर नहीं जा सकता था। BSB BSB: Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
2 UDB यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा, "देख, मैं क्या करता हूँ! मैं यरीहो तुझे दे रहा हूँ। यह तेरा होगा- इसके राजा और इसके सभी बहादुर सैनिकों के साथ। BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Joshua, “Behold, I have delivered Jericho into your hand, along with its king and its mighty men of valor.

4 UDB सात याजकों को आज्ञा दे कि उनके साथ चक्कर लगाएँ। जब वे यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक के आगे आगे चलेंगे तब उनके हाथ में तुरहियाँ हों। सातवें दिन, सेना को सात बार शहर के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाने हैं, और याजकों को चक्कर लगाते समय बहुत ऊँचे शब्द में नरसिंगे फूँकने है। BSB BSB: Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns.
5 UDB शहर के चारों ओर सात बार चक्कर लगाने के बाद, याजकों को मेढ़े के सींग के नरसिंगे को बहुत लम्बा फूँकना है। यह सुनते ही इस्राएलियों को बहुत ज़ोर से चिल्लाना है, और शहर की दीवार गिर जाएगी। तब हर एक सैनिक को सीधा शहर में घुस जाए।" BSB BSB: And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the wall of the city will collapse and all your people will charge straight into the city.”
6 UDB अतः यहोशू ने याजकों को बुला कर उनसे कहा, "चार याजकों को यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक उठा कर चलने के लिए कहो, और याजकों से कहो कि वे मेढ़े के सींग से बने सात नरसिंगे भी लें। उन्हें यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक के आगे आगे चलना होगा।" BSB BSB: So Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said, “Take up the ark of the covenant and have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the LORD.”
7 UDB उसने लोगों से कहा, "जाओ और शहर के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाओ और हथियार लिए हुए पुरुषों को यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक के आगे चलने दो।" BSB BSB: And he told the people, “Advance and march around the city, with the armed troops going ahead of the ark of the LORD.”
8 UDB यहोशू की सेना ने उसके आदेश अनुसार ही किया, सात याजक अपने अपने नरसिंगे लिए हुए, चक्कर लगाने लगे जैसे यहोवा ने कहा था। उन्होंने शहर के चक्कर लगाए और याजकों ने अपने नरसिंगे को बहुत ऊँचे शब्द से फूँका। यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक को उठानेवाले, वे उनके पीछे पीछे चले। BSB BSB: After Joshua had spoken to the people, seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
9 UDB हथियार लिए हुए सैनिक नरसिंगे फूँकने वाले याजकों के आगे आगे गए। शेष सैनिक सन्दूक के पीछे पीछे चलते थे, जब वे चक्कर लगा रहे थे, तब याजक अपने नरसिंगों को लगातार फूँक रहे थे। BSB BSB: While the horns continued to sound, the armed troops marched ahead of the priests who blew the horns, and the rear guard followed the ark.
10 UDB परन्तु अन्य लोग चुप थे, क्योंकि यहोशू ने उन्हें यह कह कर आज्ञा दी थी, "युद्ध की ललकार मत करना। उस दिन तक न तो जयजयकार करना न ही एक शब्द भी मुँह से निकालना जब तक कि मैं तुम को जयजयकार करने के लिए नहीं कहता। उस दिन, तुमको जयजयकार करना है!" BSB BSB: But Joshua had commanded the people: “Do not give a battle cry or let your voice be heard; do not let one word come out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout. Then you are to shout!”
11 UDB अतः यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक को उठाने वाले पुरुषों ने और अन्य सभी लोगों ने वही किया, जिसकी आज्ञा यहोशू ने उनको दी थी। उन्होंने प्रति दिन शहर के चारों ओर एक बार चक्कर लगाया। तब वे सभी शिविर में लौट आए और रात में वहाँ रहे। BSB BSB: So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. And the people returned to the camp and spent the night there.
12 UDB अगले दिन सुबह, यहोशू और याजक शीघ्र उठे और यहोवा के पवित्र सन्दूक को उठा लिया। BSB BSB: Joshua got up early the next morning, and the priests took the ark of the LORD.

The armed troops went in front of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the horns kept sounding.
14 UDB अतः उस दूसरे दिन, एक बार फिर से उन्होंने शहर के चारों ओर एक बार चक्कर लगाया और फिर शिविर में लौट आए। उन्होंने ऐसा छः दिन तक किया। BSB BSB: So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
15 UDB सातवें दिन, वे भोर को ही उठ गए उन्होंने शहर के चारों ओर वैसे ही चक्कर लगाया जैसे उन्होंने पहले किया था, लेकिन इस बार उन्होंने शहर के चारों ओर सात बार चक्कर लगाया। BSB BSB: Then on the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. That was the only day they circled the city seven times.
16 UDB जब वे सातवीं बार चक्कर लगा रहे थे, और याजक अपने नरसिंगों पर लम्बा शब्द फूँकने को थे, तब यहोशू ने लोगों को आज्ञा दी, "जयजयकार करो! क्योंकि यहोवा तुमको यह शहर दे रहा है! BSB BSB: After the seventh time around, the priests blew the horns, and Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!
17 UDB यहोवा ने घोषणा की है कि यह शहर और जो कुछ इसमें है सब नष्ट करना होगा जिससे स्पष्ट हो कि यह उसका है। केवल राहाब वेश्या ही जीवित रहेगी- और उसके साथ जो लोग उसके घर में होंगे, क्योंकि उसने उन जासूसों को छिपाया था जिन्हें हमने भेजा था। BSB BSB: Now the city and everything in it must be devoted to the LORD for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all those with her in her house will live, because she hid the spies we sent.
18 UDB और क्योंकि यहोवा की आज्ञा है कि सबकुछ नष्ट किया जाना चाहिए, तुम्हें इस शहर की किसी भी वस्तु को नहीं लेना है यदि तुम वहाँ से कुछ भी लेते हो, तो तुम यहोवा को विवश करोगे कि वह इस्राएल के शिविर को नष्ट करे और उस पर परेशानी डाले। BSB BSB: But keep away from the things devoted to destruction, lest you yourself be set apart for destruction. If you take any of these, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster upon it.
19 UDB परन्तु सभी चाँदी और सोना, और लोहे और काँसे से बनी वस्तुएँ जो तुमको मिलती हैं, उन्हें यहोवा के लिए अलग करना होगा। तुमको उन वस्तुओं को उनके भण्डार में रखना होगा।" BSB BSB: For all the silver and gold and all the articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they must go into His treasury.”
21 UDB उन्होंने शहर में सभी जीवित प्राणियों को मार डाला– पुरुष और स्त्री, जवान और बूढ़े, यहाँ तक कि मवेशी और भेड़ों और गधों को भी। BSB BSB: With the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, oxen, sheep, and donkeys.
22 UDB तब यहोशू ने उन दो पुरुषों से जो उस देश का भेद लेने गए थे, कहा, "उस वेश्या के घर जाओ और अपनी प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार उसे और उसके पूरे परिवार को बाहर ले आओ।" BSB BSB: Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the house of the prostitute and bring out the woman and all who are with her, just as you promised her.”
23 UDB अतः जिन दो युवकों ने उस देश की छान-बीन की, वे राहाब और उसके पिता, माता, भाइयों और सभी सम्बन्धियों को बाहर लाए। वे उन्हें इस्राएल के शिविर के बाहर एक स्थान पर लाए। BSB BSB: So the young spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.
25 UDB परन्तु यहोशू ने राहाब वेश्या को, और उसके पिता के घराने को, उसके साथ सब को जीवित रहने दिया। आज के दिन तक उसके वंशज इस्राएल में रहते हैं क्योंकि उसने उन भेदियों को छिपाया था जिनको यहोशू ने यरीहो की छान-बीन करने के लिए भेजा था। उन्होंने उनके जीवन की सुरक्षा की प्रतिज्ञा की थी। BSB BSB: And Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her father’s household and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy out Jericho. So she has lived among the Israelites to this day.
26 UDB उस समय, यहोशू ने बहुत ही गम्भीर घोषणा की थी: "यहोवा इस यरीहो शहर को फिर से बनानेवाले को शाप दे। जब वह व्यक्ति इसकी नींव रखता है, तो उसका सबसे बड़ा पुत्र मर जाए। और जब वह शहर की दीवार का निर्माण कर लेता है और इसके फाटकों को लगा देता है, तब उसका सबसे छोटा पुत्र मर जाए।" BSB BSB: At that time Joshua invoked this solemn oath: “Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho; at the cost of his firstborn he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his youngest he will set up its gates.”
27 UDB यहोवा यहोशू के साथ था, और देश में हर कोई जानता था कि यहोशू कौन है। BSB BSB: So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
