1. 1SARMisli Propovjednika, Davidova sina, kralja u Jeruzalemu.BSBBSB: These are the words of the Teacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2. 2SARIspraznost nad ispraznošću, veli Propovjednik, ispraznost nad ispraznošću, sve je ispraznost!BSBBSB: “Futility of futilities,” says the Teacher, “futility of futilities! Everything is futile!”
3. 3SARKakva je korist čovjeku od svega truda njegova kojim se trudi pod suncem?BSBBSB: What does a man gain from all his labor, at which he toils under the sun?
4. 4SARJedan naraštaj odlazi, drugi dolazi, a zemlja uvijek ostaje.BSBBSB: Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
5. 5SARSunce izlazi, sunce zalazi i onda hiti svojem mjestu odakle izlazi.BSBBSB: The sun rises and the sun sets; it hurries back to where it rises.
6. 6SARVjetar puše na jug i okreće se na sjever, kovitla sad ovamo sad onamo i vraća se u novom vrtlogu.BSBBSB: The wind blows southward, then turns northward; round and round it swirls, ever returning on its course.
7. 7SARSve rijeke teku u more i more se ne prepunja; odakle teku rijeke, onamo se vraćaju da ponovo počnu svoj tok.BSBBSB: All the rivers flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full; to the place from which the streams come, there again they flow.
8. 8SARSve je mučno. Nitko ne može reći da se oči nisu do sita nagledale i uši dovoljno naslušale.BSBBSB: All things are wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear content with hearing.
9. 9SARŠto je bilo, opet će biti, i što se činilo, opet će se činiti, i nema ništa novo pod suncem.BSBBSB: What has been will be again, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
10. 10SARIma li išta o čemu bi se moglo reći: “Gle, ovo je novo!” Sve je već davno prije nas postojalo.BSBBSB: Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new”? It has already existed in the ages before us.
11. 11SARSamo, od prošlosti ne ostade ni spomena, kao što ni u budućnosti neće biti sjećanja na ono što će poslije doći.BSBBSB: There is no remembrance of those who came before, and those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow after.
12. 12SARJa, Propovjednik, bijah kralj nad Izraelom u Jeruzalemu.BSBBSB: I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13. 13SARI trudih se da mudrošću istražim i dokučim sve što biva pod nebom; o, kako mučnu zadaću zadade Bog sinovima ljudskim.BSBBSB: And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a miserable task God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them!
14. 14SARVidjeh sve što se čini pod suncem: kakve li ispraznosti i puste tlapnje!BSBBSB: I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind.
15. 15SARŠto je krivo, ne može se ispraviti; čega nema, izbrojiti se ne može.BSBBSB: What is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted.
16. 16SARRekoh onda sam sebi: “Gle, stekao sam veću mudrost nego bilo tko od mojih prethodnika u Jeruzalemu. Duh moj sabrao je golemu mudrost i znanje.”BSBBSB: I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
17. 17SARMudrost pomnjivo proučih, a tako i glupost i ludost, ali sam spoznao da je to pusta tlapnja.BSBBSB: So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
18. 18SARMnogo mudrosti - mnogo jada; što više znanja, to više boli.BSBBSB: For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases.
