1. 1SARIstinu govorim u Kristu, ne lažem; susvjedok mi je savjest moja u Duhu Svetom:BSBBSB: I speak the truth in Christ; I am not lying, as confirmed by my conscience in the Holy Spirit.
2. 2SARsilna mi je tuga i neprekidna bol u srcu.BSBBSB: I have deep sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
3. 3SARDa, htio bih ja sam proklet biti, odvojen od Krista, za braću svoju, sunarodnjake svoje po tijelu.BSBBSB: For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my own flesh and blood,
4. 4SAROni su Izraelci, njihovo je posinstvo, i Slava, i Savezi, i zakonodavstvo, i bogoštovlje, i obećanja;BSBBSB: the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory and the covenants; theirs the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises.
5. 5SARnjihovi su i oci, od njih je, po tijelu, i Krist, koji je iznad svega, Bog blagoslovljen u vjekove. Amen.BSBBSB: Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them proceeds the human descent of Christ, who is God over all, forever worthy of praise! Amen.
6. 6SARAli ne kao da se izjalovila riječ Božja. Jer nisu Izrael svi koji potječu od Izraela;BSBBSB: It is not as though God’s word has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
7. 7SARi nisu svi djeca Abrahamova zato što su njegovo potomstvo, nego po Izaku će ti se nazivati potomstvo;BSBBSB: Nor because they are Abraham’s descendants are they all his children. On the contrary, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.”
8. 8SARto jest: djeca tijela nisu i djeca Božja, nego - djeca obećanja računaju se u potomstvo.BSBBSB: So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring.
9. 9SAREvo doista riječi obećanja: U ovo ću doba doći i Sara će imati sina.BSBBSB: For this is what the promise stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”
10. 10SARAli ne samo to! I Rebeka je s jednim, s Izakom, ocem našim, zanijela.BSBBSB: Not only that, but Rebecca’s children were conceived by one man, our father Isaac.
11. 11SARPa kad još blizanci ne bijahu rođeni niti učiniše što dobro ili zlo - da bi trajnom ostala odluka Božja o izabranju:BSBBSB: Yet before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s plan of election might stand,
12. 12SARne po djelima, nego po onome tko poziva - rečeno joj je: Stariji će služiti mlađemu,BSBBSB: not by works but by Him who calls, she was told, “The older will serve the younger.”
13. 13SARkako je pisano: Jakova sam zavolio, a Ezav mi omrznu.BSBBSB: So it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
14. 14SARŠto ćemo dakle reći? Možda da u Boga ima nepravde? Nipošto!BSBBSB: What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Certainly not!
15. 15SARTa Mojsiju veli: Smilovat ću se komu hoću da se smilujem; sažalit ću se nad kim hoću da se sažalim.BSBBSB: For He says to Moses: “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
16. 16SARNije dakle do onoga koji hoće ni do onoga koji trči, nego do Boga koji se smiluje.BSBBSB: So then, it does not depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.
17. 17SARJer Pismo veli faraonu: Zato te upravo podigoh da na tebi pokažem svoju moć i da se razglasi ime moje po svoj zemlji.BSBBSB: For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
18. 18SARTako dakle: smiluje se komu hoće, a otvrdnjuje koga hoće.BSBBSB: Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden.
19. 19SARDa, reći ćeš mi: Što se onda još tuži? Ta tko se to volji njegovoj odupro?BSBBSB: One of you will say to me, “Then why does God still find fault? For who can resist His will?”
20. 20SARČovječe, tko si ti zapravo da se pravdaš s Bogom? Zar da djelo rekne tvorcu: “Što si me ovakvim načinio?”BSBBSB: But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why did You make me like this?”
21. 21SARIli zar lončar nema vlasti nad glinom da od istoga tijesta načini posudu sad časnu, sad nečasnu.BSBBSB: Does not the potter have the right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special occasions and another for common use?
22. 22SARA što ako je Bog, hoteći očitovati gnjev i obznaniti svoju moć u silnoj strpljivosti podnosio posude gnjeva, dozrele za propast,BSBBSB: What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction?
23. 23SARda obznani bogatstvo slave svoje na posudama milosrđa, koje unaprijed pripravi za slavu,BSBBSB: What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory—
24. 24SARna nama koje pozva ne samo između Židova nego i između pogana?BSBBSB: including us, whom He has called not only from the Jews, but also from the Gentiles?
25. 25SARTako i u Hošeji veli: Ne-narod moj prozvat ću narodom mojim i Neljubljenu ljubljenom.BSBBSB: As He says in Hosea: “I will call them ‘My People’ who are not My people, and I will call her ‘My Beloved’ who is not My beloved,”
26. 26SARNa mjestu gdje im je rečeno: Vi niste moj narod prozvat će se sinovi Boga živoga.BSBBSB: and, “It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’”
27. 27SARIzaija pak proglasuje o Izraelu: Zaista, sinova će Izraelovih brojem biti kao pijeska morskog - Ostatak će se spasiti;BSBBSB: Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites is like the sand of the sea, only the remnant will be saved.
28. 28SARjer riječ će ispuniti i uskoro izvršiti Gospodin na zemlji.BSBBSB: For the Lord will carry out His sentence on the earth thoroughly and decisively.”
29. 29SARTako je Izaija i prorekao: Da nam Gospodin nad Vojskama ne ostavi sjeme, ko Sodoma bismo bili i Gomori nalik.BSBBSB: It is just as Isaiah foretold: “Unless the Lord of Hosts had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, we would have resembled Gomorrah.”
30. 30SARŠto ćemo dakle reći? Da pogani koji nisu tražili pravednosti stekoše pravednost, pravednost po vjeri.BSBBSB: What then will we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;
31. 31SARIzrael pak koji je tražio neki zakon pravednosti, nije do zakona dopro.BSBBSB: but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.
32. 32SARZašto? Jer nije tražio po vjeri, nego kao po djelima. Spotakoše se o kamen spoticanja,BSBBSB: Why not? Because their pursuit was not by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
33. 33SARkao što je pisano: Evo postavljam na Sionu kamen spoticanja i stijenu posrtanja. Ali tko u nj vjeruje, neće se postidjeti.BSBBSB: as it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense; and the one who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
