1Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; voi credete in Dio, credete ancora in me.“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well.

2Nella casa del Padre mio vi son molte stanze; se no, io ve l'avrei detto; io vo ad apparecchiarvi il luogo.In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

3E quando io sarò andato, e vi avrò apparecchiato il luogo, verrò di nuovo, e vi accoglierò appresso di me, acciocchè dove io sono, siate ancora voi.And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.

4Voi sapete ove io vo, e sapete anche la via.You know the way to the place where I am going.”

5Toma gli disse: Signore, noi non sappiamo ove tu vai; come dunque possiamo saper la via?“Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”

6Gesù gli disse: Io son la via, la verità, e la vita; niuno viene al Padre se non per me.Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

7Se voi mi aveste conosciuto, conoscereste anche il Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l'avete veduto.If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”

8Filippo gli disse: Signore, mostraci il Padre, e ciò ci basta.Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”

9Gesù gli disse: Cotanto tempo sono io già con voi, e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? chi mi ha veduto ha veduto il Padre; come dunque dici tu: Mostraci il Padre?Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10Non credi tu che io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in me? le parole che io vi ragiono, non le ragiono da me stesso; e il Padre, che dimora in me, è quel che fa le opere.Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.

11Credetemi ch'io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in me; se no, credetemi per esse opere.Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.

12In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che chi crede in me farà anch'egli le opere le quali io fo; anzi ne farà delle maggiori di queste, perciocchè io me ne vo al Padre.Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

13Ed ogni cosa che voi avrete chiesta nel nome mio, quella farò; acciocchè il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14Se voi chiedete cosa alcuna nel nome mio, io la farò.If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.

15Se voi mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti.If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

16Ed io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, che dimori con voi in perpetuo.And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—

17Cioè lo Spirito della verità, il quale il mondo non può ricevere; perciocchè non lo vede, e non lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscete; perciocchè dimora appresso di voi, e sarà in voi.the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

18Io non vi lascerò orfani; io tornerò a voi.I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

19Fra qui ed un poco di tempo, il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete;In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.

20perciocchè io vivo, e voi ancora vivrete. In quel giorno voi conoscerete che io son nel Padre mio, e che voi siete in me, ed io in voi.On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.

21Chi ha i miei comandamenti, e li osserva, esso è quel che mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio; ed io ancora l'amerò, e me gli manifesterò.Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

22Giuda, non l'Iscariot, gli disse: Signore, che vuol dire che tu ti manifesterai a noi, e non al mondo? Gesù rispose, e gli disse:Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”

23Se alcuno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola, e il Padre mio l'amerà; e noi verremo a lui, e faremo dimora presso lui.Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

24Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite, non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato.Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.

25Io vi ho ragionate queste cose, dimorando appresso di voi.All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.

26Ma il Consolatore, cioè lo Spirito Santo, il quale il Padre manderà nel nome mio, esso v'insegnerà ogni cosa, e vi rammemorerà tutte le cose che io vi ho dette.But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.

27Io vi lascio pace, io vi do la mia pace: io non ve la do, come il mondo la dà; il vostro cuore non sia turbato, e non si spaventi.Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

28Voi avete udito che io vi ho detto: Io me ne vo, e tornerò a voi; se voi mi amaste, certo voi vi rallegrereste di ciò che ho detto: Io me ne vo al Padre; poichè il Padre è maggiore di me.You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.

29Ed ora, io ve l'ho detto, innanzi che sia avvenuto; acciocchè, quando sarà avvenuto, voi crediate.And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.

30Io non parlerò più molto con voi; perciocchè il principe di questo mondo viene, e non ha nulla in me.I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.

31Ma quest'è, acciocchè il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre, e che fo come il Padre mi ha ordinato. Levatevi, andiamcene di qui.But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
