1Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; abbiate fede in Dio, e abbiate fede anche in me!“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well.

2Nella casa del Padre mio ci son molte dimore; se no, ve l’avrei detto; io vo a prepararvi un luogo;In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

3e quando sarò andato e v’avrò preparato un luogo, tornerò, e v’accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove son io, siate anche voi;And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.

4e del dove io vo sapete anche la via.You know the way to the place where I am going.”

5Toma gli disse: Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo saper la via?“Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”

6Gesù gli disse: Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

7Se m’aveste conosciuto, avreste conosciuto anche mio Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete veduto.If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”

8Filippo gli disse: Signore, mostraci il Padre, e ci basta.Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”

9Gesù gli disse: Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non m’hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha veduto me, ha veduto il Padre; come mai dici tu: Mostraci il Padre?Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10Non credi tu ch’io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico di mio; ma il Padre che dimora in me, fa le opere sue.Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.

11Credetemi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me; se no, credete a cagion di quelle opere stesse.Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.

12In verità, in verità vi dico che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere che fo io; e ne farà di maggiori, perché io me ne vo al Padre;Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

13e quel che chiederete nel mio nome, lo farò; affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14Se chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome, io la farò.If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.

15Se voi mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti.If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

16E io pregherò il Padre, ed Egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, perché stia con voi in perpetuo,And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—

17lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere, perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi, e sarà in voi.the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

18Non vi lascerò orfani; tornerò a voi.I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

19Ancora un po’, e il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo e voi vivrete.In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.

20In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e voi in me ed io in voi.On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.

21Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, e io l’amerò e mi manifesterò a lui.Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

22Giuda (non l’Iscariota) gli domandò: Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”

23Gesù rispose e gli disse: Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio l’amerà, e noi verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui.Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

24Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato.Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.

25Queste cose v’ho detto, stando ancora con voi;All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.

26ma il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, egli v’insegnerà ogni cosa e vi rammenterà tutto quello che v’ho detto.But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.

27Io vi lascio pace; vi do la mia pace. Io non vi do come il mondo dà. Il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si sgomenti.Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

28Avete udito che v’ho detto: “Io me ne vo, e torno a voi”; se voi m’amaste, vi rallegrereste ch’io vo al Padre, perché il Padre è maggiore di me.You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.

29E ora ve l’ho detto prima che avvenga, affinché, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate.And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.

30Io non parlerò più molto con voi, perché viene il principe di questo mondo. Ed esso non ha nulla in me;I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.

31ma così avviene, affinché il mondo conosca che amo il Padre, e opero come il Padre m’ha ordinato. Levatevi, andiamo via di qui.But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.
