1. 1JPNM皇帝ティベリウスの治世の第十五年、ポンテオ・ピラトがユダヤの総督、ヘロデがガリラヤの領主、その兄弟フィリポがイトラヤとトラコニティス地方の領主、リサニアがアビレネの領主であり、BSBBSB: In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2. 2JPNMアンナスとカヤパが大祭司であった時、荒野でザカリヤの子ヨハネに神の言葉が臨んだ。BSBBSB: during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

5. 5JPNMすべての谷は埋められ、 すべての山と丘は低くされる。 曲がった道はまっすぐに、 険しい道は平らになる。BSBBSB: Every valley shall be filled in, and every mountain and hill made low. The crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.

7. 7JPNMそこでヨハネは、自分からバプテスマを受けようと出て来た群衆に言った。「まむしの子孫よ、来ようとしている御怒りから逃れるようにと、だれがあなたがたに教えたのか。BSBBSB: Then John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8. 8JPNMそれなら、悔い改めにふさわしい実を結びなさい。心の中で『われわれの父はアブラハムだ』と言い始めてはならない。あなたがたに言うが、神はこれらの石からでも、アブラハムの子どもたちを起こすことがおできになる。BSBBSB: Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
9. 9JPNM斧はすでに木々の根元に置かれている。だから、良い実を結ばない木はすべて切り倒され、火に投げ込まれる。」BSBBSB: The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10. 10JPNM群衆は彼に尋ねた。「では、私たちは何をすべきでしょうか。」BSBBSB: The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?”
11. 11JPNM彼は答えた。「上着を二枚持っている者は、一枚も持たない者に分け与えなさい。食べ物を持っている者も同じようにしなさい。」BSBBSB: John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”
12. 12JPNM徴税人たちもバプテスマを受けに来て、彼に言った。「先生、私たちは何をすべきでしょうか。」BSBBSB: Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
13. 13JPNM彼は言った。「定められた額以上に取り立ててはならない。」BSBBSB: “Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered.
14. 14JPNM兵士たちも尋ねた。「私たちはどうでしょうか。何をすべきでしょうか。」 彼は言った。「だれからも力ずくで金を取らず、偽りの告発もしてはならない。自分の給料で満足しなさい。」BSBBSB: Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”
15. 15JPNM民は期待を抱き、皆がヨハネについて、もしかすると彼がキリストではないかと心の中で考えていた。BSBBSB: The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.
16. 16JPNMヨハネは皆に答えた。「私は水であなたがたにバプテスマを授けている。しかし、私より力ある方が来られる。私はその方の履物のひもを解く資格もない。その方は聖霊と火によって、あなたがたにバプテスマを授ける。BSBBSB: John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
17. 17JPNMその方は手に箕を持ち、脱穀場をすっかり清め、麦を倉に集める。しかし、もみ殻は消えることのない火で焼き尽くす。」BSBBSB: His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
18. 18JPNMヨハネはこのほかにも多くの勧めをもって、民に福音を宣べ伝えた。BSBBSB: With these and many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.
19. 19JPNMところが領主ヘロデは、兄弟の妻ヘロディアのことや、自分が行ったすべての悪事についてヨハネから責められ、BSBBSB: But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,
20. 20JPNMそれらすべてに加えて、ヨハネを牢に閉じ込めた。BSBBSB: Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.
21. 21JPNMさて、民が皆バプテスマを受けた時、イエスもバプテスマを受けて祈っておられた。すると天が開き、BSBBSB: When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,
22. 22JPNM聖霊が鳩のような目に見える姿でイエスの上に降られた。そして天から声がした。「あなたは私の愛する子。私はあなたを喜びとする。」BSBBSB: and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
