1. A Prophecy against Gog

2. 1JPSAnd the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:BSBBSB: And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
3. 2JPS'Son of man, set thy face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,BSBBSB: “Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Prophesy against him
4. 3JPSand say: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal;BSBBSB: and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
5. 4JPSand I will turn thee about, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed most gorgeously, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords:BSBBSB: I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with all your army—your horses, your horsemen in full armor, and a great company armed with shields and bucklers, all brandishing their swords.
6. 5JPSPersia, Cush, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet;BSBBSB: Persia, Cush, and Put will accompany them, all with shields and helmets,
7. 6JPSGomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah in the uttermost parts of the north, and all his bands; even many peoples with thee.BSBBSB: as well as Gomer with all its troops, and Beth-togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.
8. 7JPSBe thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou guarded of them.BSBBSB: Get ready; prepare yourself, you and all your company gathered around you; you will be their guard.
9. 8JPSAfter many days thou shalt be mustered for service, in the latter years thou shalt come against the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, against the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they dwell safely all of them.BSBBSB: After a long time you will be summoned. In the latter years you will enter a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and all now dwell securely.
10. 9JPSAnd thou shalt ascend, thou shalt come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many peoples with thee.BSBBSB: You and all your troops, and many peoples with you will go up, advancing like a thunderstorm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.
11. 10JPSThus saith the Lord GOD: It shall come to pass in that day, that things shall come into thy mind, and thou shalt devise an evil device;BSBBSB: This is what the Lord GOD says: On that day, thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will devise an evil plan.
12. 11JPSand thou shalt say: I will go up against the land of unwalled villages; I will come upon them that are at quiet, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates;BSBBSB: You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will come against a quiet people who dwell securely, all of them living without walls or bars or gates—
13. 12JPSto take the spoil and to take the prey; to turn thy hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and against the people that are gathered out of the nations, that have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the middle of the earth.BSBBSB: in order to seize the spoil and carry off the plunder, to turn a hand against the desolate places now inhabited and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and possessions and who live at the center of the land.’
14. 13JPSSheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the magnates thereof, shall say unto thee: Comest thou to take the spoil? hast thou assembled thy company to take the prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take great spoil?BSBBSB: Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will ask, ‘Have you come to capture the plunder? Have you assembled your hordes to carry away loot, to make off with silver and gold, to take cattle and goods, to seize great spoil?’
15. 14JPSTherefore, son of man, prophesy, and say unto Gog: Thus saith the Lord GOD: In that day when My people Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?BSBBSB: Therefore prophesy, son of man, and tell Gog that this is what the Lord GOD says: On that day when My people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not take notice of this?
16. 15JPSAnd thou shalt come from thy place out of the uttermost parts of the north, thou, and many peoples with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company and a mighty army;BSBBSB: And you will come from your place out of the far north—you and many peoples with you, all riding horses—a mighty horde, a huge army.
17. 16JPSand thou shalt come up against My people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the end of days, and I will bring thee against My land, that the nations may know Me, when I shall be sanctified through thee, O Gog, before their eyes.BSBBSB: You will advance against My people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will happen in the latter days, O Gog, that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy in you before their eyes.
18. 17JPSThus saith the Lord GOD: Art thou he of whom I spoke in old time by My servants the prophets of Israel, that prophesied in those days for many years, that I would bring thee against them?BSBBSB: This is what the Lord GOD says: Are you the one of whom I have spoken in former days through My servants, the prophets of Israel, who in those times prophesied for years that I would bring you against them?
19. 18JPSAnd it shall come to pass in that day, when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that My fury shall arise up in My nostrils.BSBBSB: Now on that day when Gog comes against the land of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, My wrath will flare up.
20. 19JPSFor in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath have I spoken: Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;BSBBSB: In My zeal and fiery rage I proclaim that on that day there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.
21. 20JPSso that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep upon the ground, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at My presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.BSBBSB: The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will tremble at My presence. The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.
22. 21JPSAnd I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD; every man's sword shall be against his brother.BSBBSB: And I will summon a sword against Gog on all My mountains, declares the Lord GOD, and every man’s sword will be against his brother.
23. 22JPSAnd I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will cause to rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many peoples that are with him, an overflowing shower, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.BSBBSB: I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed. I will pour out torrents of rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.
24. 23JPSThus will I magnify Myself, and sanctify Myself, and I will make Myself known in the eyes of many nations; and they shall know that I am the LORD.BSBBSB: I will magnify and sanctify Myself, and I will reveal Myself in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
