2. 1JPSAnd the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:BSBBSB: Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron:
3. 2JPS'The children of Israel shall pitch by their fathers' houses; every man with his own standard, according to the ensigns; a good way off shall they pitch round about the tent of meeting.BSBBSB: “The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance from it, each man under his standard, with the banners of his family.
4. 3JPSNow those that pitch on the east side toward the sunrising shall be they of the standard of the camp of Judah, according to their hosts; the prince of the children of Judah being Nahshon the son of Amminadab,BSBBSB: On the east side, toward the sunrise, the divisions of Judah are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Judahites is Nahshon son of Amminadab,
5. 4JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 74,600.
6. 5JPSand those that pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar; the prince of the children of Issachar being Nethanel the son of Zuar,BSBBSB: The tribe of Issachar will camp next to it. The leader of the Issacharites is Nethanel son of Zuar,
7. 6JPSand his host, even those that were numbered thereof, fifty and four thousand and four hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 54,400.
8. 7JPSand the tribe of Zebulun; the prince of the children of Zebulun being Eliab the son of Helon,BSBBSB: Next will be the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the Zebulunites is Eliab son of Helon,
9. 8JPSand his host, and those that were numbered thereof, fifty and seven thousand and four hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 57,400.
10. 9JPSall that were numbered of the camp of Judah being a hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, according to their hosts; they shall set forth first.BSBBSB: The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Judah is 186,400; they shall set out first.
11. 10JPSOn the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their hosts; the prince of the children of Reuben being Elizur the son of Shedeur,BSBBSB: On the south side, the divisions of Reuben are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Reubenites is Elizur son of Shedeur,
12. 11JPSand his host, and those that were numbered thereof, forty and six thousand and five hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 46,500.
13. 12JPSand those that pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Simeon; the prince of the children of Simeon being Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai,BSBBSB: The tribe of Simeon will camp next to it. The leader of the Simeonites is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,
14. 13JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, fifty and nine thousand and three hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 59,300.
15. 14JPSand the tribe of Gad; the prince of the children of Gad being Eliasaph the son of Reuel,BSBBSB: Next will be the tribe of Gad. The leader of the Gadites is Eliasaph son of Deuel,
16. 15JPSand his host, even those that were numbered of them, forty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 45,650.
17. 16JPSall that were numbered of the camp of Reuben being a hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty, according to their hosts; and they shall set forth second.BSBBSB: The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Reuben is 151,450; they shall set out second.
18. 17JPSThen the tent of meeting, with the camp of the Levites, shall set forward in the midst of the camps; as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place, by their standards.BSBBSB: In the middle of the camps, the Tent of Meeting is to travel with the camp of the Levites. They are to set out in the order they encamped, each in his own place under his standard.
19. 18JPSOn the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their hosts; the prince of the children of Ephraim being Elishama the son of Ammihud,BSBBSB: On the west side, the divisions of Ephraim are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Ephraimites is Elishama son of Ammihud,
20. 19JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 40,500.
21. 20JPSand next unto him shall be the tribe of Manasseh; the prince of the children of Manasseh being Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur,BSBBSB: The tribe of Manasseh will be next to it. The leader of the Manassites is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,
22. 21JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, thirty and two thousand and two hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 32,200.
23. 22JPSand the tribe of Benjamin; the prince of the children of Benjamin being Abidan the son of Gideoni,BSBBSB: Next will be the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the Benjamites is Abidan son of Gideoni,
24. 23JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, thirty and five thousand and four hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 35,400.
25. 24JPSall that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim being a hundred thousand and eight thousand and a hundred, according to their hosts; and they shall set forth third.BSBBSB: The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Ephraim is 108,100; they shall set out third.
26. 25JPSOn the north side shall be the standard of the camp of Dan according to their hosts; the prince of the children of Dan being Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai,BSBBSB: On the north side, the divisions of Dan are to camp under their standard: The leader of the Danites is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai,
27. 26JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, threescore and two thousand and seven hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 62,700.
28. 27JPSand those that pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Asher; the prince of the children of Asher being Pagiel the son of Ochran,BSBBSB: The tribe of Asher will camp next to it. The leader of the Asherites is Pagiel son of Ocran,
29. 28JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, forty and one thousand and five hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 41,500.
30. 29JPSand the tribe of Naphtali; the prince of the children of Naphtali being Ahira the son of Enan,BSBBSB: Next will be the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the Naphtalites is Ahira son of Enan,
31. 30JPSand his host, and those that were numbered of them, fifty and three thousand and four hundred;BSBBSB: and his division numbers 53,400.
32. 31JPSall that were numbered of the camp of Dan being a hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred; they shall set forth hindmost by their standards.'BSBBSB: The total number of men in the camp of Dan is 157,600; they shall set out last, under their standards.”
33. 32JPSThese are they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers' houses; all that were numbered of the camps according to their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.BSBBSB: These are the Israelites, numbered according to their families. The total of those counted in the camps, by their divisions, was 603,550.
34. 33JPSBut the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses.BSBBSB: But the Levites were not counted among the other Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
35. 34JPSThus did the children of Israel: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, each one according to its families, and according to its fathers' houses.BSBBSB: So the Israelites did everything the LORD commanded Moses; they camped under their standards in this way and set out in the same way, each man with his clan and his family.
