1 ULB ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಬೋಧಕರಾದ ನಮಗೆ ಕಠಿಣವಾದ ತೀರ್ಪು ಆಗುವುದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಹಳ ಜನರು ಬೋಧಕರಾಗಬೇಡಿರಿ. BSB BSB: Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2 ULB ಅನೇಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ತಪ್ಪುಮಾಡುವವರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಬ್ಬನು ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪಿ ನಡೆಯದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಸರ್ವಸುಗುಣವುಳ್ಳವನೂ ತನ್ನ ಇಡೀ ದೇಹವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮರ್ಥನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. 6 ULB ನಾಲಿಗೆಯೂ ಸಹ ಬೆಂಕಿಯೇ. ನಾಲಿಗೆಯೂ ಅಧರ್ಮಲೋಕರೂಪವಾಗಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಅಂಗಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಇಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಅದು ದೇಹವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ತಾನೇ ನರಕವೆಂಬ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹೊತ್ತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಇಡೀ ಬಾಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ. BSB BSB: The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 ULB ಸಕಲ ಜಾತಿಯ ಮೃಗ, ಪಕ್ಷಿ, ಹರಿದಾಡುವ ಜಂತು, ಜಲಚರಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಹತೋಟಿಗೆ ತರುವುದುಂಟು ಮತ್ತು ತಂದದ್ದುಂಟು. BSB BSB: All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man,
8 ULB ಆದರೆ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಯಾವ ಮಾನವನೂ ಹತೋಟಿಗೆ ತರಲಾರನು. ಅದು ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರಲಾರದ ಕೆಡುಕಾಗಿದೆ, ಅಂಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮರಣಕರವಾದ ವಿಷದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದೆ. BSB BSB: but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

10 ULB ಅದೇ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಸ್ತುತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಪ ಎರಡೂ ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, BSB BSB: Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be!
11 ULB ಒಂದೇ ಬುಗ್ಗೆಯಿಂದ ಸಿಹಿ ನೀರು ಮತ್ತು ಕಹಿ ನೀರು ಎರಡು ಹೊರಡುವುದುಂಟೇ? BSB BSB: Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12 ULB ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಅಂಜೂರದ ಮರವು ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಮರದ ಕಾಯಿ ಬಿಡುವುದೋ? ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೆ ಬಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂಜೂರದ ಹಣ್ಣು ಬಿಡುವುದೋ? ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಉಪ್ಪುನೀರಿನ ಬುಗ್ಗೆಯಿಂದ ಸಿಹಿ ನೀರು ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. BSB BSB: My brothers, can a fig tree grow olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
13 ULB ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೂ, ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತನೂ ಯಾರು? ಅಂಥವನು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಡತೆಯಿಂದ, ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಲಕ್ಷಣವಾದ ವಿನಯ, ಶಾಂತಭಾವದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ಅದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಲಿ. BSB BSB: Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
14 ULB ಆದರೆ ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣವಾದ ಮತ್ಸರವೂ, ಪಕ್ಷಭೆದವೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದೊಳಗೆ ಇರುವುದಾದರೆ ನೀವು ಸತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಸುಳ್ಳಾಡಿ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡಿರಿ. BSB BSB: But if you harbor bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth.
15 ULB ಅದು ಮೇಲಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಜ್ಞಾನವಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಭೂಸಂಬಂಧವಾದದ್ದು, ಲೌಕಿಕವಾದುದು, ದೆವ್ವಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟದ್ದು. BSB BSB: Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
16 ULB ಮತ್ಸರವೂ, ಹಗೆತನವೂ ಇರುವ ಕಡೆ ಗೊಂದಲಗಳೂ, ಸಕಲ ವಿಧದ ನೀಚ ಕೃತ್ಯಗಳೂ ಇರುವವು. BSB BSB: For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.
17 ULB ಆದರೆ ಮೇಲಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಮೊದಲು ಪರಿಶುದ್ಧವಾದದ್ದು ಆಮೇಲೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನಕರವಾದದ್ದು, ವಿನಯವುಳ್ಳದ್ದು, ವಿಧೇಯತೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ್ದಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕರುಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಫಲಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿರುವಂಥದ್ದು, ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತವಿಲ್ಲದ್ದು, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕವಾದ್ದದು ಎಂದು ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತದ್ದು ಆಗಿದೆ. BSB BSB: But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.
18 ULB ಸಮಾಧಾನವನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವವರು ಸಮಾಧಾನವೆಂಬ ಬೀಜವನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತಿ ನೀತಿಯೆಂಬ ಫಲವನ್ನು ಕೊಯ್ಯುವರು. BSB BSB: Peacemakers who sow in peace reap the fruit of righteousness.
