Introduction to 1 John
The Word of Life (Luke 24:36–49; John 20:19–23)
2 LSV and the Life appeared, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the continuous Life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us— BSB BSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3 LSV we declare to you that which we have seen and heard, that you also may have fellowship with us, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ; BSB BSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4 LSV and these things we write to you, that your joy may be full. BSB BSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
Walking in the Light (John 8:12–29)
5 LSV And this is the message that we have heard from Him, and announce to you, that God is light, and darkness is not in Him at all; BSB BSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6 LSV if we may say, “We have fellowship with Him,” and may walk in the darkness—we lie, and do not speak the truth; BSB BSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 LSV and if we may walk in the light, as He is in the light—we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of His Son Jesus Christ cleanses us from every sin; BSB BSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
9 LSV if we may confess our sins, He is steadfast and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from every unrighteousness; BSB BSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 LSV if we may say, “We have not sinned,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. BSB BSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
