1. The Sabbath Rest

   (Genesis 2:1–3; Exodus 16:22–30)

2. 1LSVWe may fear, then, lest a promise being left of entering into His rest, anyone of you may seem to have come short,BSBBSB: Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.
3. 2LSVfor we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard,BSBBSB: For we also received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, since they did not share the faith of those who comprehended it.
4. 3LSVfor we enter into the rest—we who believed, as He said, “So I swore in My anger, They will not enter into My rest”; and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world,BSBBSB: Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is just as God has said: “So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world.
5. 4LSVfor He spoke in a certain place concerning the seventh day thus: “And God rested in the seventh day from all His works”;BSBBSB: For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: “And on the seventh day God rested from all His works.”
6. 5LSVand in this place again, “They will not enter into My rest”;BSBBSB: And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.”
7. 6LSVsince then, it remains for some to enter into it, and those who first heard good news did not enter in because of unbelief—BSBBSB: Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience,
8. 7LSVagain He limits a certain day, “Today,” in David saying, after so long a time, as it has been said, “Today, if you may hear His voice, you may not harden your hearts,”BSBBSB: God again designated a certain day as “Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was just stated: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
9. 8LSVfor if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken after these things concerning another day;BSBBSB: For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
10. 9LSVthere remains, then, a Sabbath rest to the people of God,BSBBSB: There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
11. 10LSVfor he who entered into His rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own.BSBBSB: For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.
12. 11LSVMay we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one may fall in the same example of the unbelief,BSBBSB: Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.

13. The Living Word

    (2 Timothy 3:10–17)

14. 12LSVfor the Word of God is living, and working, and sharper—beyond every two-edged sword—and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of joints and also marrows, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart;BSBBSB: For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
15. 13LSVand there is not a created thing hidden before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes—with whom is our reckoning.BSBBSB: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
16. 14LSVHaving, then, a great Chief Priest having passed through the heavens—Jesus the Son of God—may we hold fast the profession,BSBBSB: Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess.
17. 15LSVfor we do not have a Chief Priest unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One tempted in all things in like manner, yet without sin;BSBBSB: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.
18. 16LSVwe may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace—for seasonable help.BSBBSB: Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
