John 18 (MAL10)

1ഇതു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടു യേശു ശിഷ്യന്മാരുമായി കെദ്രോൻതോട്ടിന്നു അക്കരെക്കു പോയി. അവിടെ ഒരു തോട്ടം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതിൽ അവനും ശിഷ്യന്മാരും കടന്നു.After Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples across the Kidron Valley, where they entered a garden.

3അങ്ങനെ യൂദാ പട്ടാളത്തെയും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും പരീശന്മാരും അയച്ച ചേവകരെയും കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദീപട്ടിപന്തങ്ങളും ആയുധങ്ങളുമായി അവിടെ വന്നു.So Judas brought a band of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees. They arrived at the garden carrying lanterns, torches, and weapons.

4യേശു തനിക്കു നേരിടുവാനുള്ളതു എല്ലാം അറിഞ്ഞു പുറത്തുചെന്നു: നിങ്ങൾ ആരെ തിരയുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.Jesus, knowing all that was coming upon Him, stepped forward and asked them, “Whom are you seeking?”

10ശിമോൻ പത്രൊസ് തനിക്കുള്ള വാൾ ഊരി മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ദാസനെ വെട്ടി അവന്റെ വലത്തുകാതു അറുത്തുകളഞ്ഞു; ആ ദാസന്നു മല്ക്കൊസ് എന്നു പേർ.Then Simon Peter drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

12പട്ടാളവും സഹസ്രാധിപനും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ചേവകരും യേശുവിനെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടിThen the band of soldiers, with its commander and the officers of the Jews, arrested Jesus and bound Him.

13ഒന്നാമതു ഹന്നാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവൻ ആ സംവത്സരത്തെ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പൻ ആയിരുന്നു.They brought Him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.

14കയ്യഫാവോ: ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ മരിക്കുന്നതു നന്നു എന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാരോടു ആലോചന പറഞ്ഞവൻ തന്നേ.Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it would be better if one man died for the people.

15ശിമോൻ പത്രൊസും മറ്റൊരു ശിഷ്യനും യേശുവിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു; ആ ശിഷ്യൻ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്നു പരിചയമുള്ളവൻ ആകയാൽ യേശുവിനോടുകൂടെ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ നടുമുറ്റത്തു കടന്നു.Now Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he also went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.

16പത്രൊസ് വാതില്ക്കൽ പുറത്തു നില്ക്കുമ്പോൾ, മഹാപുരോഹിതന്നു പരിചയമുള്ള മറ്റെ ശിഷ്യൻ പുറത്തുവന്നു വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരത്തിയോടു പറഞ്ഞു പത്രൊസിനെ അകത്തു കയറ്റി.But Peter stood outside at the door. Then the disciple who was known to the high priest went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.

17വാതിൽ കാക്കുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരത്തി പത്രൊസിനോടു: നീയും ഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരിൽ ഒരുവനോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അല്ല എന്നു അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.At this, the servant girl watching the door said to Peter, “Aren’t you also one of this man’s disciples?” “I am not,” he answered.

18അന്നു കുളിർ ആകകൊണ്ടു ദാസന്മാരും ചേവകരും കനൽ കൂട്ടി തീ കാഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു; പത്രൊസും അവരോടുകൂടെ തീ കാഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നിന്നു.Because it was cold, the servants and officers were standing around a charcoal fire they had made to keep warm. And Peter was also standing with them, warming himself.

19മഹാപുരോഹിതൻ യേശുവിനോടു അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരെയും ഉപദേശത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചു.Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching.

20അതിന്നു യേശു: ഞാൻ ലോകത്തോടു പരസ്യമായി സംസാരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; പള്ളിയിലും എല്ലാ യെഹൂദന്മാരും കൂടുന്ന ദൈവാലയത്തിലും ഞാൻ എപ്പോഴും ഉപദേശിച്ചു; രഹസ്യമായി ഒന്നും സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I always taught in the synagogues and at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.

21നീ എന്നോടു ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാൻ സംസാരിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നു കേട്ടവരോടു ചോദിക്ക; ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞതു അവർ അറിയുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.Why are you asking Me? Ask those who heard My message. Surely they know what I said.”

22അവൻ ഇങ്ങനെ പറയുമ്പോൾ ചേവകരിൽ അരികെ നിന്ന ഒരുത്തൻ: മഹാപുരോഹിതനോടു ഇങ്ങനെയോ ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യേശുവിന്റെ കന്നത്തു ഒന്നടിച്ചു.When Jesus had said this, one of the officers standing nearby slapped Him in the face and said, “Is this how You answer the high priest?”

23യേശു അവനോടു: ഞാൻ ദോഷമായി സംസാരിച്ചു എങ്കിൽ തെളിവു കൊടുക്ക; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ എന്നെ തല്ലുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.Jesus replied, “If I said something wrong, testify as to what was wrong. But if I spoke correctly, why did you strike Me?”

24ഹന്നാവു അവനെ കെട്ടപ്പെട്ടവനായി മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചു.Then Annas sent Him, still bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.

25ശിമോൻ പത്രൊസ് തീ കാഞ്ഞുനില്ക്കുമ്പോൾ: നീയും അവന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരിൽ ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ എന്നു ചിലർ അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; അല്ല എന്നു അവൻ മറുത്തുപറഞ്ഞു.Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they asked him, “Aren’t you also one of His disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”

26മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ ദാസന്മാരിൽവെച്ചു പത്രൊസ് കാതറുത്തവന്റെ ചാർച്ചക്കാരനായ ഒരുത്തൻ: ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അവനോടുകൂടെ തോട്ടത്തിൽ കണ്ടില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?”

27പത്രൊസ് പിന്നെയും മറുത്തുപറഞ്ഞു; ഉടനെ കോഴി കൂകി.Peter denied it once more, and immediately a rooster crowed.

28പുലർച്ചെക്കു അവർ യേശുവിനെ കയ്യഫാവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്നു ആസ്ഥാനത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; തങ്ങൾ അശുദ്ധമാകാതെ പെസഹ കഴിപ്പാന്തക്കവണ്ണം ആസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ കടന്നില്ല.Then they led Jesus away from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. By now it was early morning, and the Jews did not enter the Praetorium, to avoid being defiled and unable to eat the Passover.

29പീലാത്തൊസ് അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പുറത്തുവന്നു: ഈ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ എന്തു കുറ്റം ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.So Pilate went out to them and asked, “What accusation are you bringing against this man?”

30കുറ്റക്കാരൻ അല്ലാഞ്ഞു എങ്കിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ അവനെ നിന്റെ പക്കൽ ഏല്പിക്കയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു അവർ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.“If He were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed Him over to you.”

31പീലാത്തൊസ് അവരോടു: നിങ്ങൾ അവനെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി നിങ്ങളുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം വിധിപ്പിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാർ അവനോടു: മരണശിക്ഷെക്കുള്ള അധികാരം ഞങ്ങൾക്കില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.“You take Him and judge Him by your own law,” Pilate told them. “We are not permitted to execute anyone,” the Jews replied.

32യേശു താൻ മരിപ്പാനുള്ള മരണവിധം സൂചിപ്പിച്ച വാക്കിന്നു ഇതിനാൽ നിവൃത്തിവന്നു.This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to indicate the kind of death He was going to die.

33പീലാത്തൊസ് പിന്നെയും ആസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ചെന്നു യേശുവിനെ വിളിച്ചു: നീ യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ രാജാവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.Pilate went back into the Praetorium, summoned Jesus, and asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

34അതിന്നു ഉത്തരമായി യേശു: ഇതു നീ സ്വയമായി പറയുന്നതോ മറ്റുള്ളവർ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.“Are you saying this on your own,” Jesus asked, “or did others tell you about Me?”

35പീലാത്തൊസ് അതിന്നു ഉത്തരമായി: ഞാൻ യെഹൂദനോ? നിന്റെ ജനവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും നിന്നെ എന്റെ പക്കൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യേശു:“Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed You over to me. What have You done?”

36എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികമല്ല; എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികം ആയിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ എന്നെ യഹൂദന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിക്കാതവണ്ണം എന്റെ ചേവകർ പോരാടുമായിരുന്നു; എന്നാൽ എന്റെ രാജ്യം ഐഹികമല്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now My kingdom is not of this realm.”

37പീലാത്തൊസ് അവനോടു: എന്നാൽ നീ രാജാവു തന്നേയല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു യേശു: നീ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഞാൻ രാജാവു തന്നേ; സത്യത്തിന്നു സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ ജനിച്ചു അതിന്നായി ലോകത്തിൽ വന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു; സത്യതല്പരനായവൻ എല്ലാം എന്റെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.“Then You are a king!” Pilate said. “You say that I am a king,” Jesus answered. “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.”

38പീലാത്തൊസ് അവനോടു: സത്യം എന്നാൽ എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു പിന്നെയും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പുറത്തു ചെന്നു അവരോടു: ഞാൻ അവനിൽ ഒരു കുറ്റവും കാണുന്നില്ല.“What is truth?” Pilate asked. And having said this, he went out again to the Jews and told them, “I find no basis for a charge against Him.

39എന്നാൽ പെസഹയിൽ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഒരുത്തനെ വിട്ടുതരിക പതിവുണ്ടല്ലോ; യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ രാജാവിനെ വിട്ടുതരുന്നതു സമ്മതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അവർ പിന്നെയും:But it is your custom that I release to you one prisoner at the Passover. So then, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

40ഇവനെ വേണ്ടാ; ബറബ്ബാസിനെ മതി എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു; ബറബ്ബാസോ കവർച്ചക്കാരൻ ആയിരുന്നു.“Not this man,” they shouted, “but Barabbas!” (Now Barabbas was an insurrectionist.)
