BSB BSB: So David marched out and prospered in everything Saul sent him to do, and Saul set him over the men of war. And this was pleasing in the sight of all the people, and of Saul’s officers as well.

BSB BSB: As the troops were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs, and with tambourines and other instruments.

BSB BSB: And Saul was furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?”
9 ULB അന്നുമുതൽ ദാവീദിനോട് ശൗലിനു അസൂയ തുടങ്ങി. BSB BSB: And from that day forward Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

BSB BSB: The next day a spirit of distress sent from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied inside the house while David played the harp as usual. Now Saul was holding a spear,

13 ULB അതുകൊണ്ട് ശൗൽ അവനെ തന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് മാറ്റി ആയിരം പേർക്ക് അധിപനാക്കി; അങ്ങനെ അവൻ ജനത്തിന് നായകനായി മാറി. BSB BSB: Therefore Saul sent David away and gave him command of a thousand men. David led the troops out to battle and back,
14 ULB യഹോവ അവനോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്റെ എല്ലാവഴികളിലും ദാവീദിന് അഭിവൃദ്ധി ഉണ്ടായി; BSB BSB: and he continued to prosper in all his ways, because the LORD was with him.
15 ULB ദാവീദ് ഏറ്റവും വിവേകത്തോടെ നടക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ശൗൽ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ,അവനെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു. BSB BSB: When Saul saw that David was very successful, he was afraid of him.
16 ULB എന്നാൽ ദാവീദ് യിസ്രായേലിനും യെഹൂദയ്ക്കും നായകനായതുകൊണ്ട് അവരൊക്കെയും അവനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു. BSB BSB: But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was leading them out to battle and back.

BSB BSB: Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage. Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I need not raise my hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”
18 ULB ദാവീദ് ശൗലിനോട്: “രാജാവിന്റെ മരുമകനായിരിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ ആരു? യിസ്രായേലിൽ എന്റെ ബന്ധുക്കളും എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനവും ആരുമല്ലല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. BSB BSB: And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my family or my father’s clan in Israel, that I should become the son-in-law of the king?”
19 ULB ശൗലിന്റെ മകളായ മേരബിനെ ദാവീദിന് ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കേണ്ടിയിരുന്ന സമയത്ത് അവളെ മെഹോലാത്യനായ അദ്രിയേലിന് ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു. BSB BSB: So when it was time to give Saul’s daughter Merab to David, she was given in marriage to Adriel of Meholah.

BSB BSB: Then Saul ordered his servants, “Speak to David privately and tell him, ‘Behold, the king is pleased with you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become his son-in-law.’”
23 ULB ശൗലിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാർ ആ കാര്യം ദാവീദിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു.അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ്: “രാജാവിന്റെ മരുമകനാകുന്നത് നിസ്സാരമെന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ വിചാരിക്കുന്നുവോ? ഞാൻ ദരിദ്രനും എളിയവനും ആകുന്നുവല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. BSB BSB: But when Saul’s servants relayed these words to David, he replied, “Does it seem trivial in your sight to be the son-in-law of the king? I am a poor man and lightly esteemed.”
24 ULB ദാവീദ് പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം ശൗലിന്റെ ദൃത്യന്മാർ ശൗലിനെ അറിയിച്ചു. BSB BSB: And the servants told Saul what David had said.
25 ULB അതിന് ശൗൽ: “രാജാവ് യാതൊരു സ്ത്രീധനവും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നില്ല. അതിനുപകരം രാജാവിന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളോടുള്ള പ്രതികാരമായി ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ നൂറ് അഗ്രചർമ്മം മതി എന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ ദാവീദിനോട് പറയണം” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യാൽ ദാവീദ് കൊല്ലപ്പെടണമെന്ന് ശൗൽ കരുതിയിരുന്നു. BSB BSB: Saul replied, “Say to David, ‘The king desires no other dowry but a hundred Philistine foreskins as revenge on his enemies.’” But Saul intended to cause David’s death at the hands of the Philistines.
26 ULB ശൗൽ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യം ഭൃത്യന്മാർ ദാവീദിനോട് അറിയിച്ചപ്പോൾ രാജാവിന്റെ മരുമകനാകുവാൻ ദാവീദിന് സന്തോഷമായി; BSB BSB: When the servants reported these terms to David, he was pleased to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the wedding day arrived,
27 ULB നിശ്ചിത സമയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ദാവീദും അവന്റെ ആളുകളും ഫെലിസ്ത്യരിൽ ഇരുനൂറ് പേരെ കൊന്നു. അവരുടെ അഗ്രചർമ്മം കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് താൻ രാജാവിന്റെ മരുമകനാകേണ്ടതിന് രാജാവിന് എണ്ണം കൊടുത്തു കൊടുത്തു. ശൗൽ തന്റെ മകളായ മീഖളിനെ അവന് ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു. BSB BSB: David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.

29 ULB ശൗൽ ദാവീദിനെ പിന്നെയും അധികം ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; ശൗൽ ദാവീദിന്റെ നിത്യശത്രുവായ്തീർന്നു. BSB BSB: he grew even more afraid of David. So from then on Saul was David’s enemy.

BSB BSB: Every time the Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
