BSB BSB: Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba.

4 ULB അനന്തരം യോവാശ് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീർപ്പാൻ മനസ്സുവെച്ചു. BSB BSB: Some time later, Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
5 ULB അവൻ പുരോഹിതന്മാരെയും ലേവ്യരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തി അവരോട്: “യെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളിലേക്കു ചെന്ന് ആണ്ടുതോറും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റകുറ്റം തീർക്കുവാൻ യിസ്രായേൽ ജനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പണം ശേഖരിപ്പിൻ; ഈ കാര്യം വേഗം നിവർത്തിക്കേണം” എന്ന് കല്പിച്ചു. ലേവ്യരോ അതിന് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടില്ല. BSB BSB: So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not make haste.

BSB BSB: So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
7 ULB ദുഷ്ടസ്ത്രീയായ അഥല്യയുടെ പുത്രന്മാർ ദൈവാലയത്തിലേക്ക് അതിക്രമിച്ച് കടന്ന്, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലെ സകലനിവേദിത വസ്തുക്കളേയും ബാൽവിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾക്ക് അർപ്പിച്ചുവല്ലോ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. BSB BSB: For the sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into the house of God and had even used the sacred objects of the house of the LORD for the Baals.
8 ULB അങ്ങനെ അവർ രാജകല്പനപ്രകാരം ഒരു പണപ്പെട്ടി ഉണ്ടാക്കി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കൽ പുറത്തു വെച്ചു. BSB BSB: At the king’s command a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the house of the LORD.
9 ULB ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വെച്ച് യിസ്രായേൽജനത്തിന്മേൽ ചുമത്തിയ പിരിവ് യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുവാൻ അവർ യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു. BSB BSB: And a proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that they were to bring to the LORD the tax imposed by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.
10 ULB സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും സർവ്വജനവും സന്തോഷിച്ചു; എല്ലാവരും അർപ്പിച്ച് തീരുംവരെ അവർ കൊണ്ടുവന്നത് പണപ്പെട്ടിയിൽ നിക്ഷേപിച്ചു. BSB BSB: All the officers and all the people rejoiced and brought their contributions, and they dropped them in the chest until it was full.
11 ULB ലേവ്യർ പണപ്പെട്ടി എടുത്ത് രാജാവിന്റെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുമ്പോൾ പണം വളരെ ഉണ്ടെന്ന് കണ്ടാൽ രാജാവിന്റെ കാര്യവിചാരകനും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്റെ കാര്യസ്ഥനും വന്ന് പെട്ടി ഒഴിക്കയും വീണ്ടും അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്ത് കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ അവർ ദിവസംപ്രതി ചെയ്കയും ധാരാളം പണം ശേഖരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു. BSB BSB: Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.

BSB BSB: Then the king and Jehoiada would give the money to those who supervised the labor on the house of the LORD to hire stonecutters and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, as well as workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the LORD.
13 ULB അങ്ങനെ പണിക്കാർ വേല ചെയ്ത് കേടുപാടുകൾ തീർത്ത് ദൈവാലയം യഥാസ്ഥാനത്താക്കി ഉറപ്പിച്ചു. BSB BSB: So the workmen labored, and in their hands the repair work progressed. They restored the house of God according to its specifications, and they reinforced it.
14 ULB പണിതീർത്തിട്ട് ശേഷിച്ച പണം അവർ രാജാവിന്റെയും യെഹോയാദയുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവർ അതുകൊണ്ട് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്ക് ഉപകരണങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കി; ശുശ്രൂഷക്കും ഹോമയാഗത്തിനുമുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും, തവികളും, പൊന്നും, വെള്ളിയും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉപകരണങ്ങളും തന്നേ; അവർ യെഹോയാദയുടെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും ഇടവിടാതെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിൽ ഹോമയാഗം അർപ്പിച്ചുപോന്നു. BSB BSB: When they were finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and with it were made articles for the house of the LORD—utensils for the service and for the burnt offerings, dishes, and other objects of gold and silver. Throughout the days of Jehoiada, burnt offerings were presented regularly in the house of the LORD.
15 ULB യെഹോയാദാ വയോധികനും കാലസമ്പൂർണ്ണനുമായി മരിച്ചു; മരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവന് നൂറ്റിമുപ്പത് വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. BSB BSB: When Jehoiada was old and full of years, he died at the age of 130.

17 ULB യെഹോയാദാ മരിച്ചശേഷം യെഹൂദാപ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ വന്ന് രാജാവിനെ വണങ്ങി; രാജാവു് അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു. BSB BSB: After the death of Jehoiada, however, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and he listened to them.

BSB BSB: They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and idols. So wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.
19 ULB എങ്കിലും അവരെ യഹോവയിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുവരുത്തുവാൻ അവൻ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചു; അവർ അവരോട് സാക്ഷീകരിച്ചു; എങ്കിലും അവർ ചെവികൊടുത്തില്ല. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, the LORD sent prophets to bring the people back to Him and to testify against them, but they would not listen.
20 ULB അപ്പോൾ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവ് യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യാവിന്റെ മേൽ വന്നു; അവൻ ജനത്തിന്നെതിരെ നിന്ന് അവരോട് പറഞ്ഞത്: “ദൈവം ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: നിങ്ങൾക്ക് നന്മ വരുവാൻ കഴിയാതെ നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനകൾ ലംഘിക്കുന്നത് എന്ത്? നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ നിങ്ങളെയും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.” BSB BSB: Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood up before the people and said to them, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He has forsaken you.’”

22 ULB അങ്ങനെ യോവാശ്‌രാജാവ് അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ യെഹോയാദാ തന്നോട് കാണിച്ച ദയ ഓർക്കാതെ അവന്റെ മകനെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അവൻ മരിക്കുമ്പോൾ: “യഹോവ നോക്കി ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ളട്ടെ” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. BSB BSB: Thus King Joash failed to remember the kindness that Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead, Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying, Zechariah said, “May the LORD see this and call you to account.”

BSB BSB: In the spring, the army of Aram went to war against Joash. They entered Judah and Jerusalem and destroyed all the leaders of the people, and they sent all the plunder to their king in Damascus.
24 ULB അരാമ്യസൈന്യം എണ്ണത്തിൽ ചുരുക്കമായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യഹോവ അവരുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു സൈന്യത്തെ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുവല്ലോ. ഇങ്ങനെ യോവാശിനോട് അവർ ന്യായവിധി നടത്തി. BSB BSB: Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment was executed on Joash.
25 ULB അവർ അവനെ വിട്ടുപോയ ശേഷം -കഠിനമായി മുറിവേറ്റ നിലയിലായിരുന്നു അവനെ വിട്ടേച്ചുപോയത്- യെഹോയാദാപുരോഹിതന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ രക്തംനിമിത്തം അവന്റെ സ്വന്തഭൃത്യന്മാർ അവന്റെ നേരെ കൂട്ടുകെട്ടുണ്ടാക്കി അവനെ കിടക്കയിൽവെച്ച് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവൻ മരിച്ചു; അവനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ നഗരത്തിൽ അടക്കം ചെയ്തു;എന്നാൽ രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളിൽ അടക്കം ചെയ്തില്ല. BSB BSB: And when the Arameans had withdrawn, they left Joash severely wounded. His own servants conspired against him for shedding the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and they killed him on his bed. So he died and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

BSB BSB: The accounts of the sons of Joash and the many pronouncements about him, and of the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son Amaziah reigned in his place.
