1मग दावीदाने परमेश्वरास विचारले, “मी यहूदातील एखाद्या नगरात जाऊ का?” तेव्हा परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “हो खुशाल जा,” दावीदाने विचारले, कुठे जाऊ? देवाने सांगितले, “हेब्रोनला जा.”Some time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To Hebron,” replied the LORD.

2तेव्हा दावीद आपल्या दोन्ही पत्नींसह हेब्रोनला गेला. इज्रेलची अहीनवाम आणि कर्मेलच्या नाबालची विधवा अबीगईल या त्याच्या दोन स्त्रिया.So David went there with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel.

And they told David, “It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.”

6आता परमेश्वर तुमच्याशी प्रामाणिक राहील, तुमच्यावर प्रेमाची पाखर घालील. मीही तुमच्याशी दयाळूपणाने वागेन. कारण तुम्ही हे काम केलेले आहे.Now may the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness, and I will also show you the same favor because you have done this.

7आता खंबीर राहा आणि धैर्याने वागा. आपला स्वामी शौल मरण पावला असला तरी यहूदा वंशातील लोकांनी माझा राज्याभिषेक केला आहे.”Now then, be strong and courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me as their king.”

8नेरचा मुलगा अबनेर हा शौलाचा सेनापती होता. इकडे तो शौलाचा मुलगा इश-बोशेथ याला घेऊन महनाईम याठिकाणी आला.Meanwhile, Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, took Saul’s son Ish-bosheth, moved him to Mahanaim,

9आणि त्याने ईश-बोशेथला गिलाद, अशेर, इज्रेल, एफ्राईम, बन्यामीन आणि सर्व इस्राएल यांच्यावर राजा म्हणून नेमले.and made him king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, and Benjamin—over all Israel.

10हा शौलाचा पुत्र ईश-बोशेथ इस्राएलवर राज्य करू लागला तेव्हा चाळीस वर्षाचा होता. त्याने दोन वर्षे कारभार पाहिला. पण यहूदा वंशाचा पाठिंबा दावीदाला होता.Saul’s son Ish-bosheth was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned for two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.

11दावीद हेब्रोनमध्ये राज्य करत होता. त्याने यहूदाच्या घराण्यावर साडेसात वर्षे राज्य केले.And the length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12नेराचा मुलगा अबनेर आणि शौलपुत्र ईश-बोशेथचे सेवक महनाईम सोडून गिबोन येथे आले.One day Abner son of Ner and the servants of Ish-bosheth son of Saul marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13सरुवा हिचा मुलगा यवाब आणि दावीदचे सेवकही बाहेर पडून गिबोनला आले. गिबोनच्या तलावाशी या दोन गटांची गाठ पडली. तलावाच्या दोन बाजूला दोन्ही सैन्ये उतरली.So Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. And the two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.

14अबनेर यवाबाला म्हणाला, “आपल्यातील तरुण सैनिकांनी उठून समोरासमोर येऊन दोन हात करावे,” यवाब म्हणाला, “ठीक आहे होऊन जाऊ दे.”Then Abner said to Joab, “Let us have the young men get up and compete before us.” “Let them get up,” Joab replied.

15तेव्हा दोन्ही बाजूचे तरुण सैनिक उठले. त्यांनी आपापली संख्या पाहिली. शौलपुत्र ईश-बोशेथ याच्या बाजूने लढायला त्यांनी बन्यामीनच्या वंशातील बाराजण निवडले आणि दावीदाच्या सैन्यातील बाराजणांना घेतले.So they got up and were counted off—twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.

16प्रत्येकाने आपल्या प्रतिस्पर्ध्याचे मस्तक धरून त्याच्या कुशीत तलवार खुपसली. तेव्हा सर्व एकदम पडले. म्हणून त्या जागेचे नाव “हेलकथहसूरीम” असे पडले हे स्थळ गिबोनामध्ये आहे.Then each man grabbed his opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his opponent’s side, and they all fell together. So this place, which is in Gibeon, is called Helkath-hazzurim.

17त्या दिवशी तेथे तुंबळ युध्द झाले. दावीदाच्या सैन्याने त्या दिवशी अबनेर आणि इस्राएल लोक यांचा पराभव केला.The battle that day was intense, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by the servants of David.

18यवाब, अबीशय आणि असाएल हे सरुवेचे तीन पुत्र. त्यापैकी असाएल हा वेगवान धावपटू होता. अगदी रानातल्या हरीणासारखा चपळ होता.The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel was fleet of foot like a wild gazelle,

19त्याने अबनेरचा पाठलाग सुरु केला. अबनेरचा पाठलाग करताना त्याने उजवीडावीकडे वळून देखील पाहिले नाही.and he chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.

20अबनेरने मागे वळून विचारले, “तू असाएल ना?”And Abner glanced back and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” “It is,” Asahel replied.

21असाएलला इजा होऊ नये असे अबनेरला वाटत होते. म्हणून तो असाएलला म्हणाला, “माझा पाठलाग थांबव एखाद्या तरुण सैनिकाला धर. त्याचे चिलखत स्वतःसाठी घे.” पण असाएलने त्याचे न ऐकता अबनेरचा पाठलाग चालूच ठेवला.So Abner told him, “Turn to your right or to your left, seize one of the young men, and take his equipment for yourself.” But Asahel would not stop chasing him.

22पुन्हा अबनेर त्यास म्हणाला, “हा पाठलाग थांबव नाहीतर मला तुला मारावे लागेल आणि तसे झाले तर तुझा भाऊ यवाब याला मी तोंड दाखवू शकणार नाही.”Once again, Abner warned Asahel, “Stop chasing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How could I show my face to your brother Joab?”

23तरीही असाएल ऐकेना. तेव्हा अबनेरने आपल्या भाल्याचे मागचे टोक असाएलच्या पोटात खुपसले. भाला सरळ त्याच्या पोटात घूसून पाठीतून निघाला. असाएलला तिथे तात्काळ मृत्यू आला असाएलचा मृतदेह तिथेच जमिनीवर पडलेला होता. लोकांनी ते पाहिले आणि ते तिथेच थांबले.But Asahel refused to turn away. So Abner thrust the butt of his spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man paused when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.

By sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.

25बन्यामीनच्या घराण्यातील लोक अबनेरकडे आले आणि या डोंगराच्या शिखरावर उभे राहिले.The Benjamites rallied to Abner, formed a single unit, and took their stand atop a hill.

26तेव्हा यवाबाला हाक मारून अबनेरने त्यास विचारले, “आपापसातील या प्राणघातक लढाया अशाच चालू ठेवायच्या आहेत का? याचे परीणाम दुःखच होणार आहे हे तू जाणतोसच. आपल्याच भाऊबंदांचा पाठलाग थांबवायला तुझ्या लोकांस सांग.”Then Abner called out to Joab: “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”

27तेव्हा यवाब म्हणाला, तू हे सुचवलेस ते चांगले झाले नाहीतर, देवाच्या जीविताची शपथ, हे लोक सकाळच्या वेळी आपल्याच बांधवांचा पाठलाग करत राहिले असते.“As surely as God lives,” Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers until morning.”

28आणि यवाबाने रणशिंग फुंकले. त्याच्या बाजूच्या लोकांनी इस्राएल लोकांचा पाठलाग थांबवला. एवढेच नव्हे तर त्यांनी पुढे इस्राएलाशी युध्दही केले नाही.So Joab blew the ram’s horn, and all the troops stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or continued to fight.

29अबनेर आणि त्याच्या बरोबरची माणसे यांनी रातोरात यार्देन खोऱ्यातून कूच केली. नदी पार करून महनाईमला पोहोचेपर्यंत ते वाटचाल करत होते.And all that night Abner and his men marched through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all morning, and arrived at Mahanaim.

30यवाबाने अबनेरचा पाठलाग थांबवला आणि तो परतला. आपल्या लोकांस त्याने एकत्र केले तेव्हा असाएल धरून दावीदाच्या सेवकांपैकी एकोणीस जण बेपत्ता असल्याचे त्यास आढळून आले.When Joab returned from pursuing Abner, he gathered all the troops. In addition to Asahel, nineteen of David’s servants were missing,

31पण दावीदाच्या लोकांनी बन्यामीनच्या कुळातील अबनेरची तीनशे साठ माणसे मारली होती.but they had struck down 360 Benjamites who were with Abner.

32दावीदाच्या लोकांनी असाएलचे दफन बेथलहेम येथे त्याच्या वडीलांच्या थडग्यातच केले यवाब आणि त्याची माणसे रात्रभर प्रवास करून उजाडता हेब्रोन येथे पोहोचली.And they took Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb in Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and reached Hebron at daybreak.
