1शबा नावाचा एक मनुष्य तेथे होता. हा बिक्रीचा मुलगा. बन्यामीन घराण्यातील हा शबा अगदी कुचकामी पण खोडसाळ प्रवृत्तीचा होता. त्याने एकदा रणशिंग फुंकले आणि लोकांस गोळा केले. आणि त्यांना म्हणाला, दावीदाकडे आपला भाग नाही. या इशायच्या मुलात आपला वाटा नाही. इस्राएलींनो, आपापल्या डेऱ्यात परत चला.Now a worthless man named Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjamite, happened to be there, and he blew the ram’s horn and shouted: “We have no share in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Every man to his tent, O Israel!”

2हे ऐकून सर्व इस्राएल लोक दावीदाला सोडून बिक्रीचा मुलगा शबा याच्या मागे गेले. पण यहूदी लोक मात्र यार्देन नदीपासून यरुशलेमपर्यंत राजाच्या पाठीशी राहिले.So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.

3दावीद यरुशलेम येथील आपल्या घरी परतला. आपल्या दहा दासींना त्याने घराच्या निगराणीसाठी मागे ठेवले होते त्यांना त्याने एका खास घरात ठेवले. आणि त्यांच्यावर पहारा ठेवला. मरेपर्यंत या स्त्रिया तेथेच राहिल्या दावीदाने त्यांच्या उदरनिर्वाहाची सगळी नीट व्यवस्था केली पण पुन्हा त्यांच्याशी संबंध ठेवले नाहीत. त्यामुळे शेवटपर्यंत त्यांची स्थिती विधवेसारखी होती.When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace, and he placed them in a house under guard. He provided for them, but he no longer slept with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.

4राजा अमासास म्हणाला, यहूदाच्या लोकांस तीन दिवसात येऊन मला भेटायला सांग. त्यावेळी तूही बरोबर राहा.Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.”

5तेव्हा अमासा यहूद्यांना बोलवून आणायला रवाना झाला. पण राजाने सांगितल्यापेक्षा जास्त वेळ त्यास लागला.So Amasa went to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time allotted him.

6दावीद अबीशयला म्हणाला, अबशालोमापेक्षाही हा बिक्रीचा मुलगा शबा आपल्या दृष्टीने धोकादायक आहे. तेव्हा माझ्या हाताखालच्यांना घेऊन त्याचा पाठलाग कर. तटबंदी असलेल्या नगरात तो जायच्या आधीच त्यास गाठायला हवे. एकदा तो मजबूत बंदोबस्त असलेल्या नगरात शिरला की त्यास पकडणे अवघड जाईल.And David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom. Take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us.”

7तेव्हा यवाब, बिक्रीचा मुलगा शबा याच्या पाठलागासाठी यरुशलेमेहून निघाला. त्याने बरोबर आपली माणसे, करेथी, पलेथी तसेच इतर सैनिक घेतले.So Joab’s men, along with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, marched out of Jerusalem in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.

8यवाब आणि त्याचे सैन्य गिबोनजवळच्या मोठ्या पहाडापाशी आले तेव्हा अमासा त्यांना सामोरा आला. यवाबाच्या अंगावर चिलखत होते. त्याने कमरबंद बांधला होता आणि म्यानात तलवार होती. यवाब आमासाच्या दिशेने चालू लागला तेव्हा त्याची तलवार म्यानातून निसटून पडली. यवाबाने ती उचलली आणि हातात धरली.And while they were at the great stone in Gibeon, Amasa joined them. Now Joab was dressed in military attire, with a dagger strapped to his belt. And as he stepped forward, he slipped the dagger from its sheath.

9त्याने अमासास विचारले, तुझे सर्व कुशल आहे ना? आणि अमासाचे चुंबन घेण्यास यवाबाने आपला उजव्या हाताने अमासाची दाढी धरून त्यास पुढे खेचले.“Are you well, my brother?” Joab asked Amasa. And with his right hand Joab grabbed Amasa by the beard to kiss him.

10यवाबाच्या डाव्या हातातील तलवारीकडे अमासाचे लक्ष नव्हते. पण तेवढ्यात यवाबाने अमासाच्या पोटात तलवार खुपसली, आणि त्याचा कोथळा बाहेर काढला. यवाबाला पुन्हा वार करावा लागलाच नाही. अमासा गतप्राण झाला. यवाब आणि त्याचा भाऊ अबीशय यांनी बिक्रीचा मुलगा शबा याचा शोध चालूच ठेवला.Amasa was not on guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach and spilled out his intestines on the ground. And Joab did not need to strike him again, for Amasa was dead. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.

11यवाबाच्या सैन्यातील एक तरुण सैनिक अमासाच्या मृतदेहाजवळ उभा राहिला आणि म्हणाला, “यवाब आणि दावीदाला ज्यांचा पाठिंबा आहे त्यांनी यवाबामागे जावे.”One of Joab’s young men stood near Amasa and said, “Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!”

12अमासा रस्त्याच्या मध्याभागी रक्ताच्या थारोळ्यात पडला होता. येणारा जाणारा प्रत्येकजण थांबून हे दृष्य पाहतोय हे त्या तरुण सैनिकाच्या लक्षात आले. तेव्हा त्याने ते प्रेत रस्त्यावरून ढकलत शेतात नेऊन टाकले. त्याच्यावर एक कापड अंथरले.But Amasa wallowed in his blood in the middle of the road, and when the man saw that all the troops were stopping there, he dragged the body off the road into a field and threw a garment over it.

13अमासाचा देह तिथून हलवल्यावर लोक ते सरळ ओलांडून यवाबाच्या मागे चालू लागले. मग त्यांनी यवाबाबरोबर बिक्रीचा पुत्र शबा याचा पाठलाग सुरू केला.As soon as Amasa’s body was removed from the road, all the men went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bichri.

14इस्राएलांच्या सर्व वंशांमधून जाऊन, शबा आबेल व बेथ माका येथे गेला. सर्व बेरीही एकत्र येऊन शबाला मिळाले.Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel-beth-maacah and through the entire region of the Berites, who gathered together and followed him.

15यवाब आपल्या मनुष्यांसहीत आबेल-बेथ-माका येथे पोचला. त्याच्या सैन्याने नगराला वेढा दिला. तटबंदीभोवती त्यांनी माती कचऱ्याचा ढीग रचला. त्याच्यावरून भिंत पार करणे त्यांना सोयीस्कर ठरले असते. त्याचबरोबर त्यांनी भिंत पाडण्यासाठी भिंतीतील दगड फोडायला सुरुवात केली.And Joab’s troops came and besieged Sheba in Abel-beth-maacah and built a siege ramp against the outer rampart of the city. As all the troops with Joab were battering the wall to topple it,

16नगरात एक चाणाक्ष स्त्री राहत होती. तिने नगरातून मोठ्याने ओरडून सांगितले, “माझे ऐका. यवाबाला येथे यायला सांगा. मला त्याच्याशी काही बोलायचे आहे.”a wise woman called out from the city, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come here so that I may speak with him.”

17यवाब तिच्याशी बोलायला गेला. तिने त्यास तूच यवाब का, म्हणून विचारले. यवाबाने होकार भरला. तेव्हा ती म्हणाली, माझे ऐक. यवाब म्हणाला, “सांग मी ऐकतोय.”When he had come near to her, the woman asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he replied. “Listen to the words of your servant,” she said. “I am listening,” he answered.

18मग ती स्त्री म्हणाली, “पूर्वी लोक म्हणत, गरज पडली की आबेलमध्ये यावे, म्हणजे मागाल ते मिळते.”Then the woman said, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Seek counsel at Abel,’ and that is how disputes were settled.

19इस्राएलमधील शांतताप्रिय, विश्वासू लोकांपैकी मी एक आहे. इस्राएलच्या एका महत्वाच्या शहराची तुम्ही नासधूस करत आहात. परमेश्वराच्या मालकीच्या वस्तुची तुम्ही मोडतोड का करता?I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel, but you are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the LORD’s inheritance?”

20यवाब म्हणाला, “मला कशाचाच नाश करायची इच्छा नाही. तुमच्या नगराची नासधूस मी करू इच्छित नाही.”“Far be it!” Joab declared. “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy!

21पण एफ्राईमाच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशातील बिक्रीचा पुत्र शबा नावाचा एक मनुष्य तुमच्या नगरात आहे. दावीद राजाविरुध्द त्याने बंड केले आहे. त्यास माझ्यापुढे हजर केलेत तर नगराला धक्कालावणार नाही. तेव्हा ती स्त्री यवाबाला म्हणाली, ठीक आहे. त्याचे मुंडके भिंतीवरून तुझ्याकडे टाकण्यात येईल.That is not the case. But a man named Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”

22मग तिने गावातील लोकांस शहाणपणाने आपले म्हणणे पटवून दिले. तेव्हा लोकांनी बिक्रीचा पुत्र शबा याचे मुंडके धडावेगळे करून ते यवाबाकडे तटबंदी पलीकडे फेकले. यवाबाने रणशिंग फुंकले आणि सैन्याने नगर सोडले. जो तो आपल्या घरी परतला आणि यवाब यरुशलेम येथे राजाकडे आला.Then the woman went to all the people with her wise counsel, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the ram’s horn and his men dispersed from the city, each to his own home. And Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.

23यवाब इस्राएलचा सेनापती होता. यहोयादाचा मुलगा बनाया हा करेथी आणि पलेथी यांचा प्रमुख होता.Now Joab was over the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites;

24अदोराम हा कष्टकरी लोकांचा प्रमुख होता. अहीलुदाचा मुलगा यहोशाफाट हा अखबारनवीस होता.Adoram was in charge of the forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;

25शबा चिटणीस होता. सादोक आणि अब्याथार हे याजक होते.Sheva was the scribe; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

26आणि याईरी ईरा हा दावीदाचा मुख्य सेवक होता.and Ira the Jairite was David’s priest.
