1. Spiritual Gifts

2. 1MURAnd concerning spirituals, my brethren, I would have you know,BSBBSB: Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
3. 2MURthat ye have been pagans; and have been, without distinction, led away after idols, in which there is no speech.BSBBSB: You know that when you were pagans, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
4. 3MURI therefore inform you, that there is no man, that speaketh by the Spirit of God, who saith that Jesus is accursed: neither can a man say that Jesus is the Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.BSBBSB: Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
5. 4MURNow there are diversities of gifts; but the Spirit is one.BSBBSB: There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
6. 5MURAnd there are diversities of ministrations; but the Lord is one.BSBBSB: There are different ministries, but the same Lord.
7. 6MURAnd there are diversities of energies; but God, who worketh all in all men, is one.BSBBSB: There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.
8. 7MURAnd to each man, there is given a manifestation of the Spirit, that it may aid him.BSBBSB: Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
9. 8MURTo one, by the Spirit, there is given a word of wisdom; and to another, by the same Spirit, there is given a word of knowledge:BSBBSB: To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit,
10. 9MURto another, by the same Spirit, faith: to another, by the same Spirit, gifts of healing:BSBBSB: to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
11. 10MURand to another, miracles: and to another, prophecy: and to another, the discerning of spirits: and to another, divers kinds of tongues: and to another, the interpretation of tongues.BSBBSB: to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
12. 11MURBut all these, worketh that one Spirit; and he distributeth to every one as he pleaseth.BSBBSB: All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines.

13. The Body of Christ

14. 12MURFor as the body is one, and in it are many members; and all those members of the body, though many, are one body; so also is the Messiah.BSBBSB: The body is a unit, though it is composed of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ.
15. 13MURFor all of us, likewise, by one Spirit, have been baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, whether slaves or free; and all of us have drinked in one Spirit.BSBBSB: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
16. 14MURFor a body also, is not one member, but many.BSBBSB: For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.
17. 15MURFor if the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it, on that account, not of the body?BSBBSB: If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
18. 16MUROr if the ear should say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it, on that account, not of the body?BSBBSB: And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.
19. 17MURAnd if the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? Or if it were all hearing, where would be the smelling?BSBBSB: If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
20. 18MURBut now hath God placed every one of the members in the body, according to his pleasure.BSBBSB: But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them, according to His design.
21. 19MURAnd if they were all one member, where would be the body?BSBBSB: If they were all one part, where would the body be?
22. 20MURBut now they are many members, yet but one body.BSBBSB: As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
23. 21MURThe eye cannot say to the hand, Thou art not needful to me: nor can the head say to the feet, Ye are not needful to me.BSBBSB: The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.” Nor can the head say to the feet, “I do not need you.”
24. 22MURBut rather, those members which are accounted feeble, are indispensable.BSBBSB: On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
25. 23MURAnd those which we think dishonorable in the body, on them we heap more honor; and those that are uncomely, on them we put the more decoration.BSBBSB: and the parts we consider less honorable, we treat with greater honor. And our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty,
26. 24MURFor the honorable members in us, have no need of honor: for God hath tempered the body, and given more honor to the member which is inferior;BSBBSB: whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God has composed the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
27. 25MURthat there might be no disunion in the body, but that all the members, equally, might care for one another;BSBBSB: so that there should be no division in the body, but that its members should have mutual concern for one another.
28. 26MURso that, when one member is in pain, they will all sympathize; and if one member is exalted, all the members will be exalted.BSBBSB: If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

29. The Greater Gifts

30. 27MURNow ye are the body of Messiah, and members in your place.BSBBSB: Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
31. 28MURFor God hath placed in his church, first, legates; after them, prophets; after them, teachers; after them, workers of miracles; after them, the gifts of healing, and helpers, and leaders, and various kinds of tongues.BSBBSB: And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.
32. 29MURAre they all legates? Are they all prophets? Are they all teachers? Are they all workers of miracles?BSBBSB: Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
33. 30MURHave all of them the gifts of healing? Do they all speak with tongues? Or do they all interpret?BSBBSB: Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
34. 31MURAnd if ye are emulous of the superior gifts, on the other hand, I show to you a better way.BSBBSB: But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
