1 John 1 1 1 John The word of life; walking in the light Murdock New Testament (Peshitta) A pastoral letter giving believers assurance: those who walk in the light, love one another and confess Jesus come in the flesh know they have eternal life.
Introduction to 1 John
The Word of Life (Luke 24:36–49; John 20:19–23)
2 MUR And the life was manifested, and we have seen and do testify and announce to you, the life which is eternal; which was with the Father, and was revealed to us. BSB BSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3 MUR And what we have seen and heard, we make known to you also, that ye may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus the Messiah. BSB BSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4 MUR And these things we write to you, that our joy in you may be complete. BSB BSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
Walking in the Light (John 8:12–29)
5 MUR And this is the announcement, which we have heard from him and declare to you, that God is light, and no darkness at all is in him. BSB BSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6 MUR And if we say that we have fellowship with him, and we walk in the darkness, we are liars, and walk not in the truth. BSB BSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 MUR But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with each other and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all our sins. BSB BSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
9 MUR But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all our iniquity. BSB BSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 MUR If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not with us. BSB BSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
