1. Request for Prayer

2. 1MURHenceforth, brethren, pray ye for us, that the word of our Lord may, in every place, run and be glorified, as with you;BSBBSB: Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.
3. 2MURand that we may be delivered from evil and perverse men; for faith is not in all.BSBBSB: And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.
4. 3MURAnd faithful is the Lord, who will keep you and rescue you from the evil One.BSBBSB: But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
5. 4MURAnd we have confidence in you, through our Lord, that what we have inculcated on you, ye both have done, and will do.BSBBSB: And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.
6. 5MURAnd may our Lord direct your hearts to the love of God, and to a patient waiting for the Messiah.BSBBSB: May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

7. A Warning against Idleness

8. 6MURAnd we enjoin upon you, my brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, that ye withdraw from every brother who walketh wickedly, and not according to the precepts which ye received from us.BSBBSB: Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.
9. 7MURFor ye know how ye ought to imitate us, who did not walk wickedly among you.BSBBSB: For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,
10. 8MURNeither did we eat bread gratuitously from any of you; but, with toil and weariness, we labored by night and by day, that we might not be burdensome to any of you.BSBBSB: nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
11. 9MURIt was not because we have no authority, but that we might give you an example in ourselves, that ye might imitate us.BSBBSB: Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.
12. 10MURAnd while we were with you, we also gave you this precept, That every one who would not work, should likewise not eat.BSBBSB: For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”
13. 11MURFor we hear, there are some among you who walk wickedly, and do nothing except vain things.BSBBSB: For we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives, accomplishing nothing, but being busybodies.
14. 12MURNow such persons, we command and exhort, by our Lord Jesus the Messiah, that in quietness they work, and eat their own bread.BSBBSB: We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.
15. 13MURAnd my brethren, let it not be wearisome to you, to do what is good.BSBBSB: But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.
16. 14MURAnd if any one hearkeneth not to these my words in this epistle, separate that man from you, and have no intimacy with him, that he may be ashamed.BSBBSB: Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
17. 15MURYet, hold him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.BSBBSB: Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

    (1 Corinthians 16:19–24; Colossians 4:15–18)

19. 16MURAnd may the Lord of peace give you peace, always, in every thing. Our Lord be with you all.BSBBSB: Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
20. 17MURThe salutation in the writing of my own hand, I Paul have written it; which is the token in all my epistles, so I write.BSBBSB: This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write.
21. 18MURThe grace of Jesus the Messiah be with you all, my brethren. Amen.BSBBSB: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.
