Murdock New Testament (Peshitta)Berean Standard Bible

1. Jesus Our Apostle and High Priest

2. 1MURWherefore, my holy brethren, who are called with a calling that is from heaven, consider this Legate and High Priest of our profession, Jesus the Messiah:BSBBSB: Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
3. 2MURwho was faithful to him that made him, as was Moses in all his house.BSBBSB: He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
4. 3MURFor much greater is the glory of this man, than that of Moses; just as the glory of the builder of a house, is greater than that of the edifice.BSBBSB: For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
5. 4MURFor every house is built by some man; but he who buildeth all things is God.BSBBSB: And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
6. 5MURAnd Moses, as a servant, was faithful in all the house, for an attestation to those things that were to be spoken by him:BSBBSB: Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later.
7. 6MURbut the Messiah as the SON, is over his own house; and we are his house, if we retain unto the end assurance, and the triumph of hope in him.BSBBSB: But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.

8. Do Not Harden Your Hearts

   (Psalm 95:1–11)

9. 7MURBecause the Holy Spirit hath said: To-day, if ye will hear his voice,BSBBSB: Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice,
10. 8MURharden not your hearts to anger him, like the provocators, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness,BSBBSB: do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,
11. 9MURwhen your fathers tempted me, and proved, and saw my works forty years.BSBBSB: where your fathers tested and tried Me, and for forty years saw My works.
12. 10MURTherefore I was disgusted with that generation, and said: This is a people, whose heart wandereth, and they have not known my ways:BSBBSB: Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.’
13. 11MURso that I swore in my wrath, that they should not enter into my rest.BSBBSB: So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’”

14. The Peril of Unbelief

15. 12MURBeware, therefore, my brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart that believeth not, and ye depart from the living God.BSBBSB: See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.
16. 13MURBut examine yourselves all the days, during the day which is called to-day; and let none of you be hardened, through the deceitfulness of sin.BSBBSB: But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
17. 14MURFor we have part with the Messiah, if we persevere in this firm confidence, from the beginning to the end:BSBBSB: We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.
18. 15MURas it is said, To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, to anger him.BSBBSB: As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.”
19. 16MURBut who were they that heard, and angered him? It was not all they, who came out of Egypt under Moses.BSBBSB: For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
20. 17MURAnd with whom was he disgusted forty years, but with those who sinned, and whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?BSBBSB: And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
21. 18MURand of whom swore he, that they should not enter into his rest, but of those who believed not?BSBBSB: And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
22. 19MURSo we see that they could not enter, because they believed not.BSBBSB: So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
